I am very interested if you have a proven link back to the 1500s. The two main branches of the family as far as I know haven't been taken back before 1600. The Middlesex branch stop at 1616 with the death of Richard of Pinner Marsh although of course he was born before then and his son Phillip who was father of the USA Edelen line was probably born in 1596.

Similarly the Leicestershire branch go back to Robert born 1614 in Denton, He had a brother Richard born 1602 but no dates have been attributed to their parents John and Margaret Edlin.

Do you have a proveenline?

Regards
David Wilson

do you live in or near elizabethtown?? My father is from there and his birth last name was edlin but he was adopted by his grandparents and had his name changed. I have never met any of his family and am very interested in learning about my heritage and lineage!
All I know is his fathers last name was Edlin and possibly was married to a black woman for a while he would be in his 70s or 80s now and my father has cherokee indian in his line--and enough to make him have red skin so it must be very close in his line.
My fathers birth name was Jonathan Flint Edlin if that helps any.

The only information I have is that John Edlin Martin was born in Middlesex in 1826 He married Selina Leeson on the 16 Nov. 1845 Their marriage certificate states that John Edlin was 19 years old and Selina was "official age" when the married. John Edlin's occupations was listed as Butcher. His father's (William) occupation was listed as Gardiner and the occupation of Selina Leeson's father was that of "Watchmaker".They were married in the Parish of Kensington in the County of Middlesex before Elizabeth Mitchell and John James Mitchell. The certificate was signed by John Edlin Martin but Selina Leeson left her "mark".
John Edlin Martin and his wife Selina Martin (Nee Leeson) immigrated to Australia aboard the ship "Hope" in March 1853 he was 23 yrs old and she was 28. At least two children immigrated with them Mary Ann (2) and Sarah (5) The arrived in melbourne from London on the 15 March
I have very extensive records for the Edlin name and can find nothing which seems to relate to this birth.

David

I am trying to connect John Edelen/Edlen/Edlin who migrated from Maryland to Kentucky with the Maryland Edelens. First appears on Grayson County Kentucky tax records in 1824, but had a son Joseph born in Washington Co KY 14 Jun 1814. His wife was Margaret Neale daughter of Joseph Neale and Ann Adderton. Do you have any information about this line of Edelens.

William's father was John Edlin born 1765, died 3 Jun 1821. His mother was John's second wife Jane Lisson (this name is virtually unreadable in the parish registers)and he was the only child of six from three marriages that William had.

There are a number of people who claim descent from this line but no-one has managed to find John's parents. As mentioned in another thread I have an almost complete tree of William's Edlin descendants amounting to around 200 people.

I have a complete tree (I think) of that family back to 1765. John Edlin born 1765 was the father of your William who was actually born 9 Oct 1802 the son of his second wife (of three) Jane Lisson. He was the only one of six children who survived beyond childhood.

No-one has managed to get back beyond John.

I will email you directly with more details.

David

Dawn and Joan I don't know if you will see this message but I am also descended from the Ickenham Edlins. I have a William Edlin born 1804 died 1841 married to Elizabeth. They had a number of children including Henry (married to Mary Ann Parsons) who I am descended from, and also a Daniel.

Maybe we can compare what we have, although all I have is from the censuses.

Thanks

Paula

Hi I know this is an old message I'm replying to but I'm hoping you are still in touch!!

I've just started on my family tree and I have some Ickenham Edlins. I have Henry b 1825 and married to Mary Ann Parsons, and his father, William b 1804, d 1841 m Elizabeth. So far I've only gleaned what I can from the online censuses so some of it is guesswork and supposition, hence some shaky dates.

I would be really pleased to know the information you have.

Best wishes

Paula

My ggggrandfather was Dominic Francis Edelen who was born in MD 1809-10 but lived most of his adult life in Kentucky. He was in Grayson County by 1825 and died there in 1880. He had a grandson named Dominic Isaiah and possibly another grandson named Dominic.

looking for relatives of John and Rebecca Edlin of Indiana

I am a descendant of John Edlin, Jr. and Rebecca Warman Edlin who lived in Clark County, Indiana and are listed in the 1850 census. Their children were Robert, Abram, Zacharia, Margaret, John III and Almyra. Almyra was my great-grandmother and married Charles Wahl, a union soldier who moved to Arkansas after the Civil War. Almyra died at the birth of her daughter, Myra, who was raised by Edlin relatives. I hope these names ring a bell with some of you folks browsing the Edlin Board.
