Veda L. Edlund, 87, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Adams County Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Ind. Born in Sioux Falls, S.D., grew up in Minneapolis, Minn., lived most of her married life in Michigan and moved to Indiana after the death of her husband in 1973. She was a homemaker and educator. While in Fort Wayne, Ind. she worked for 10 years with the Brookside-Parkerdale Association neighborhood watch. She has been a very active member of St. George Episcopal Church in Berne, Ind. She was an avid gardener, bird-watcher, dog-lover and cook (and humorist). She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Robert) Gorkiewicz of, and Julie (Martin) Mansfield of rural Berne; son, Dr. James Edlund, M.D.; grandchildren Kristin (Josh) Ahern, Joseph Liverance, Natalie (Robert) Edlund-Vetesse, Anna (John) Magnuson, Bethany Edlund, Samantha Mansfield, Chelsea Gorkiewicz, Liza Gorkiewicz, and Peter Gorkiewicz; great-grandchildren, Geoffrey Goeters, Ryon and Gavin Magnuson, and Miles Vetesse. Veda was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace R. Edlund and granddaughters, Kerrin Liverance-Abraham and Nina Rose Vetesse. Visitation took place from 4-8 p.m. on May 20 and Saturday, May 21 from 8-10 a.m. at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home in Fort Wayne. The service took place at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 1195 Hendricks, Berne, Ind., with calling one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Larry Smith, St. George, is officiated. Preferred memorials to the Bluffton-Wells Animal Shelter/Humane Society, Parkview Hospital Foundation, or the Christian Church Foundation, Kerrin Liverance-Abraham Memorial Fund.
