family Bibles coming down in the families of children of Col Wm Edmiston and Margaret Montgomery and Elizabeth Kennedy

Many years ago I had reported to me by Charla Edmiston Manica that a friend of hers had found a copy of entries in family Bible coming down in family of GWC Edmiston/ Edmondson . . .I believe in the family of John Stewart Edmiston, whose descendant had written The Fat of the Land, about the Edmistons who had settled in Lincoln County Tennessee and where descended from Col Wm. Edmiston/Edmondson and Margaret Montgomery and/or second wife Elizabeth Kennedy. GWC stood for General William Campbell and was a child born in the second family. This family material from the family Bible was found in the Shelbyville Public Library. I have contacted the Shelbyville Public Library and have not been able to lay eyes on that document. So I am looking for anyone who has any family Bibles coming down in any of the branches of that family . . . and I am seeking to find out whatever happened to Charla Edmiston Manica, who was a very active researcher.

Have you been able to find anything on Sarah Edmiston? I did a search saying that her immigration date was in 1886 from Scotland, her parents were born in Ireland and her parents were John Edmiston and Elizabeth Smith. If this is correct, I have John being born in Antis, Blair county, PA. Also, Elizabeth would have been 65 when giving birth to Sarah. This could however mean that John & Elizabeth adopted Sarah from one of their children because of being born out of wedlock. If you are still doing research on Sarah, please feel free to contact me at grafix4764@hotmail.com

Samuel Calvin Edmiston (1856-1915) and Sadie(McGregor) Edmiston(1852-1921) were my ggrandparents. They had three sons-Robert(1879-1882)Charles 1882-1958?) and W. Steward(1890-1957),my grandfather. Charles married Mary Oster and they had some sons that I know of-my father's first cousins. One was Calvin, another had a nickname of "Tiny". The Charles you are asking about was a barber in Altoona for many years and had a chicken farm in Catfish,Pa. about five miles south of Altoona. I have seen his grave in the Catfish cemetery and I could take you there but it is hard to find. I can trace the Edmistons back 6 generations if you are interested. We have lived around Altoona since the 1770's. My name is Dixon Edmiston and I live in Altoona.
Hi there. My Edmistons came from Scotland to Ireland to NY City,USA, and then to eastern Penn.,USA. Don't know where in Scotland they came from or where in Ire.? Some think Northern Ireland (Armagh) as a Robert was born there around 1819. His son was born in NY in 1856 and later moved to Penn. There's an Edmiston Cemetery in eastern Penn. with about 8 headstones of my ancestors. Would love to know where in Scotland they came from. Pat

I am seeking the ancestry of brothers, Joseph and Samuel Edmiston, from Mifflin County, PA. Joseph was a judge in that county and later moved to Bradford County, PA. I am specifically interested in the names of their parents. I am also interested to find out if the maiden name of their mother may have been "Sears" or something similar.

Edgar Edmiston was born about 1923 in AR and is the son of Frank Edmiston and Tinnie Lumbley(Lumley). I am trying to find interested descendants of Frank who was my spouse's great uncle. I tried to contact Ben F Edmiston who was Edgar's younger brother and lived at one point in Paragould, AR but I guess I was too late. Can share information on Frank's half-brothers. Have questions about Frank's mom to ask.

The only Edmistons that I know about are Daniel and Frank Edmiston. Daniel was married to Lottie (Charlotte) Nickerson Hatton and she is the wife of Daniel and mother of Frank. What little I know of Daniel is that he induced Lottie to give up her child (Rolla) for adoption to the Richeys in about 1897. Also in 1897, Frank was born. He later married and lived with wife, Tinney at Hickory Ridge, Cross County, AR. He died in 1931 from a lightning strike--he was a rice farmer.

William Russell Edmiston did take his family to Stockton, CA and their son, Samuel Benjamin, was born there. However, his wife wanted to go back to Alabama. They went back and he returned to CA to sell their property. However, my family story [from Laura Horton] was that he was killed in CA. My great-grandmother was their first daughter; Lucy Lois, who married Otto Maghee Jones of Smithville, TN.

I have a small very very old book titled the Genealogy of a Branch of the EDMISTON FAMILY. It has a history of the Edmonstone name going back to Scotland in 1065. I don't know the source of the information or the accuracy but there are a lot of names in the book and it was compiled by 2 Edmistons in California. I am guessing they gathered the information perhaps in the 1950's or ealier. My mother was born in 1931 and she is listed in the book. It would appear that my ancestors came to the America between 1660 and 1700 and settled in Pennsylvania.
Rhonda in Missouri
