Im still confused.. Im now unsure if William Robertson Edmonston is my relative!! I think it could be another William Edmonston, although they would be related and was also an engraver and Silversmith in Edinburgh, who also had a father named Alexander...Doh!! I would be interested in the book though and will purchase it from Amazon.

I have traced my tree back to 1800, william edmonston and william edmonstone, from edinburgh as you say a large family, i just wonderd how you were doing and if you ever looked at the book Scottish engravers a biographical dictionary by George bushnell 1949, wondered how your tree was going?

I have traced my grandparents, great grandparents back to William e edmonston / born in 1830 in Edinburgh and died in fins bury London in1880 he is shown on the 1871 census as living in Finsbury london and on the 1851 census as living in Edinburgh with his mother Elizabeth edmonston nee Gerard and again 1861 living in islingtonwith his mother, he married in 1863 in London. His father was also William born approx 1810 perhaps died before 1840 as his wife lived alone.

This is my very first post, I would be very grateful for any information out have about the edmonston family in Edinburgh as you stay occupation on the census is stated as engraver. Regards Jayne

Jimmy is a problem, since he wasn't there in 1900. He is either
1) Jimmie, who they missed in 1900;
2) John, understating his age by 9 years;
3) William's son by someone else, who was with her in 1900;
4) A relative other than a son recorded as a son by mistake;
5) Something else.

William and Grace both have "M2" - second marriage - in their "Marital Status" column. They have been married for 10 years, which means Grace was a very young widow or the enumerator goofed on her.

I can't find a death record for William. I can't find Grace or any of her children there either.

has 25 death certificates for surname = Harkey, county = Dunklin. If you've seen them, this post will seem silly. I suspect they broke out the champagne in genealogy clubhouses all over Missouri when that particular site came up, and most of you know about it. Still, better to tell you about a source you already know about than to keep silent about one that you haven't seen yet.

John gets lost in a sea of other men named John. I can find only fragmants for Clement.

says she was about the right age to marry Clem, who would have been 7 years older than her. I can't find Clem or Robert on the 1900. I can't find a death record for Clem. He may have been dead by then too; or he may be under a different name, or he may have moved.

Thank you so much. The Meridith name is very familiar to me and I have heard my Dad and Grandmother talk about the Willaford's. They pronounced it Willa-ferd. This is very interesting. Malinda, my g-grandmother, died when Grandma, Frances Caroline Harkey was in the first grade or possibly 6 yrs. of age. Then William Anderson Harkey remarried.

Amanda Horner's 1913 death certificate says her father was "unknown Edmonston".

Miriam there, who is probably Allen's wife, isn't the mother of the kids unless she started having them at 9 years of age. They do match up pretty well with William and Jemimia in 1860, and Allen, b. 1857, will still be with his uncle in 1880. I'm going to assume the kids are Allen's nieces and nephews. The fact that a 33-year old husband with a 26-year old wife doesn't have a child born every 2 - 3 years after he married hints that:
1) One of them is infertile; or
2) They have had a string of children who died young; or
3) They haven't been married long; or
4) Something else.

Dunklin County , July 27, 1872. Allen Edmonston was appointed guardian of the following Edmonston children: John W., Clem, Samuel, Allen, Malinda. Security were A.B. Wilkins and H.C. Merritt. (The Wilkins family came from North Carolina to Tennessee for a short time and then to Missouri. Allen Edmonston might have followed the same route).

Given that there are just 4 Samuel Edmonstons b. 1857 - 1867 in the entire USA, and he is "at school" in each entry, I strongly suspect our Samuel was counted twice, once with his brother Clement, one with his uncle Allen. They are just a few pages away from each other. The two Samuels could be cousins born the same year (+/- 1) and named after the same grandfather, however.

The Elizabeth and Allen Edmonston living with their uncle Allen on p. 642C might be Samuel's siblings, or they might be his cousins.

Given the 1880, can we trace Samuel and Clement back?

The most likely explanation is that Clement's parents have died and the children have been parceled out to relatives. The Willafords are in HH 11 on p. 695A. Samuel "Edmonds" is in HH 19 on p. 695B, with the Gibsons:

Mr. Atkinson's occupation is "Farmer", so chances are he's a hired hand or a tennant.

This looks like Clement as a child. His bother Allen, b. 1858, looks like the Allen who was with Samuel on p. 642C in 1880. There is a Merideth family member, too. Note this is NOT proof of Samuel's parents, but it might give enough clues that someone could prove or disprove my theory.

I'd be happy to send you a GEDCOM when I finish, in 6 months or so. I just started this - November 5th. I haven't really looked into the siblings yet.

My grandmother Sarah Frances Millender married John Edmonston in the late 1800's. They had Three Children, Pearl, Marion & John. I understand that Marion had two daughters. I know that they lived near Siloam Springs AR, this from my mother, I believe one was named Pauline, I thihk his wife was Grace. Anyone with information please e-mail me. I recently placed a new headstone for our grandmother in the Mose Ridge Cemetary near Eucha OK. I would like to connect with her other grandchildren.

A message from another Susan....I am also looking for family from Missouri under the name Edmonston. My Great grand father was born around that time. His name was Frank William Wilson and his mothers maiden name was Edmonston. Do you know if they were part Cherokee? Email me and we can share with each other just the fact that she was one of 3 sister that might make sense and the missionaries came over from England so there was a lot of mixes of European with Indians.

My ancestor is Zella and I believe she was born in Feb 1881 in Missouri.

BILL EDMONSTON

Bill “Red” Edmonston, 78, passed away Oct. 18, 2007, at his residence in Helendale due to cancer. He was born June 1, 1929.
Bill was involved in motorcycles all his life; the inventor of several motorcycle carburetors, he was well known in the motorcycle industry.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lucy; mother, Lucille Bourne; sister Darlene Edmonston; son Sparkie Edmonston, his wife, Karen and their two daughters, Jamie and Jennifer; daughter Cathie Edmonston and her boyfriend, Sam Whitney; daughter Christie Dumatrait, her husband, Joe, and son Bradley; son Michael Edmonston, his wife, Mandy, and three daughters, Kori, Kylee and Candice and son Chadd; and two greatgrandchildren, Casey and Westin. Bill was married to Frosty for 45 years until she passed away in 1995 of cancer.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Friday, followed by Mass at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church in Apple Valley. Graveside services will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley.
Sunset Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Heidi Susan was a rare and precious flower in God's garden. Having struggled with health problems the past several years and her doctors unable to find the cause of her illness, our heavenly father gathered her unto him unexpectedly and quietly, giving her eternal peace.

Heidi was born at Deaconess Hospital to Norman and Susan Herdrich. She lived her entire life in the Spokane Valley and attended McDonald Elementary, Evergreen Jr. High, and Central Valley High School. She was a member of the class of 1999. She was a lifelong member of Spokane Valley United Methodist Church and particularly remembers her time there with Pastor Bob Roberts and Julie Roberts. During that time Heidi played flute, bells, sang in the youth choir, was an acolyte, and a youth lay reader.

Heidi was active in Camp Fire. She also enjoyed art and music. She could hear a song once and know the music and lyrics by heart. She had many gifts which she was never able to fully use in her all too brief life. She worked a number of jobs and proved a capable worker, making us proud. She also had her difficulties in life and struggled with them, faced them, and tried to become a better person.

Heidi married the love of her life, Roy H. Edmonston. They adored each other. They shared a love for movies of all sorts. They loved to laugh. And because she was needed, Heidi left her husband to live with her maternal grandmother, Mary Webb, for a year and a half in Ritzville. Roy would commute from Spokane to visit Heidi.

Then Roy and Heidi moved to Fredricksburg, Texas, to join his family. We all hoped the warmer climate would help her feel better. After a serious illness this summer, she seemed to be doing better. Heidi was preceded in death by all four of her grandparents Fred and Florice Herdrich of Spokane, James and Mary Webb of Ritzville. She leaves her husband Roy, father-in-law George, mother-in-law Cindy, and sister-in-law Marion Edmonston of Fredricksburg, Texas; brother- and sister-in-law Merlin and Jessica Edmonston of Coos Bay, Ore.; her parents Norm and Sue Herdrich, sister and brother-in-law Kristin and David Ryan of Spokane; and sister Megan of Wilmore, Ky.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

A service will be held in Ritzville at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Nov. 16, 2007, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to honor Heidi do so by either making memorials to the Shriners' Hospital (where she once was a patient) or to the Ritzville Trinity United Methodist Church where her Grandma Mary had long been a member. A Celebrate Recovery Endowment at the Ritzville church will be established in Heidi's name to honor her struggle in this life: "Hier auf Erden bin Ich ein Pilger/und mein pilgern und mein pilgern virt nicht lang. . . ." (Here on earth, I am a pilgrim/and my pilgrimage and my pilgrimage will not be long. . .) Danekas Funeral Home-Ritzville is handling arrangements.

William SMITH was supposed to be from Wales. Catherine from Ireland. Believe the EDMONSTON was also Ireland. My gr gr grandfather, Mathew Rankin SMITH b. 1809 Washington Co., PA. He m. Esther Carter in 1832, Muskingum Co., OH. Found a James SMITH m. Elizabeth LATTA in Muskingum Co. also about same time. I'm sorry but my William Edmonston came from Edinburgh Scotland. Whilst they may may be related a long way down the line, I doubt that you are on the right track. They were silversmiths and engravers passed down from father to son and grandsons. As far as I know, none of them went to America.

But I know they were a large family.

The Edmodston families is really not in my line but I came across the Wills for the family when I was hunting for the parents of Lucy Edmondston married to a Samuel Riddle.
She is not from my line of Riddle's but the cousins of my line of Riddle's families of John Riddle,2nd. from Prince George's County,Maryland.

My husband is Thomas Edmiston Norpell.His 3 greats grandfather in the son mentioned in the will of Thomas Edmonstone,Sr.
I am trying to get necessary documentation to prove the Edmonstone family were pioneers in Ross County,Ohio.
