The Mary W. Edmunds book "Edmunds History 1710 - 1971" states "James Edmunds was a private in Capt. Hobson's Co. 6th. Virginia Battalion of Continental Forces, Revolutionary Forces of Virginia. His health gave way and his son Alexander Edmunds took his place as a substitute for his father. He was at Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered and partisipated in the last fight for freedom."
I have never tried to verify Alexander Edmunds service, as he was born in 1763, and a little too young to have served in the Revolution. However the James Edmunds referenced in the Mary W. Edmunds book,
( Capt. Hobson's Co. )was not "our" James Edmunds, as he was listed as "deceased" as of December 30, 1777.
