Hi "probable" cousin :-)

I too have Edmundson's from Wilson and Wayne counties in NC. My GGG grandfather was Wright Edmundson (1796 - 1860).

I haven't done much research on that line of my family, but hope to in the near future.

A couple of links that might help you.

Wilson County was formed in 1855 from parts of the existing counties of Edgecombe, Johnston, Nash and Wayne counties. I believe (but could be wrong) that Stantonsburg was originally in Wayne County and is now in Wilson County.

My Wright Edmundson lived in Stantonsburg.

Anyway.. my point is.. you need to look in both Wayne and Wilson counties.

Wilson has a very active genealogy society and the Wilson Public Library has a wonderful large room devoted exclusively to local genealogy and history.

Here's the link to the genealogical society:

http://www.wcgs.org/

And here's a link to the Wayne County Museum and Historical Association which I have yet to visit:

http://www.waynecountyhistoricalnc.org/

Also... Yelverton is a prominent name in Wilson County so that might help your search also....

Good luck... Let me know if you find any photos... I have none from that side of the family. I will keep the link to your tree to explore further and see where we are related.

Susan

Hello, to my Edmundson cousins! William Edmundson, the founder of Quakerism in Ireland, never lived in the United States. He died in Ireland in 1712. His grandson, also William, settled in Chester County, Pa. (c. 1715) and our line then migrated to York, Pittsburgh (McKeesport) and your family continued west to Indiana. My line left Quakers around the Revolution and your stayed in the Quaker faith for much, much longer. I saw your post and thought I would say, "Hello!" I would be glad to send you an invite to my tree if you are interested. I have more William Edmundson information than anyone probably wants to read. James E. Edmundson.

I live in Grand Terrace, California and my barber is named Rex Edmundson. In talking he said his father Robert Edmundson was from back east and migrated to Kansas in the early 1800's. Robert had a brother who migrated to Okla. He thinks his family came from England. Do any of these names sound familiar? My barber Rex was born in 1926 in Kansas.

My great grandfather Jesse Joseph Edmondson was born near Charleston, S.C. out Adam's run. He had a brother named Ransom and their father's name was Joseph. I know that he is a desendant of William Edmondson, but I've had troubles finding Joseph's father. If you have any information I would like for you to share it with me.

Thank you,
Carol

My husbands grandfather was named William Roy Edmundson he did live on a farm in Rising Sun, Cecil County, Maryland. To get to the home on this farm you did indeed have to cross a creek to reach it. William Roys wife was named Jessie they had a son William Thomas and a daughter Mary. We know that grandpop had a sister that was called Aidlee. Grandpop said that this farm was granted to the Edmundsons from William Penn who owned Pennsylvania and Rising Sun was at one time part of Pennsylvania. So we believe that we do have a connection here and we are wondering exactly how Harry Thomas Edmundson fits in here.
Please send more info on this matter and please dont be afraid to ask questions.

My father was Harry Thomas Edmundson and had a great Aunt who also had a farm in Rising Sun Md. I remember as a child visiting this farm and that the drive went accross a stream to get in to the farm. I also remember that the one room of the farm contained a hand written grant from William Penn to a member of the family aunt that this was in a case in the home. I believe her name was Adilade. My gggggrandfathers brother was a William Edmundson.

Thanks for the note; however, I don't know of any connections to Robert Emmett reynolds or Ophelia Gooch Reynolds, even though my ancestors WERE Reynolds. Also, don't know "Took" Lay or Chester Lay even though I have seen their names through my ancestry searches. I think they may have been 2nd or 3rd cousins 2 or 3 times removed. There were a lot of Lays in Pulaski County, KY, but my grandfather did not have any brothers or sisters. In fact noone knows who his father was. His mother was Mary Helen Lay. My brother had DNA done last year, and it appears right now we may be connected to Edmondsons or Calverts, as we have received 37-marker matches on them, but that only means somewhere in our past we have commom ancestors. Thanks again for the note.

Donna

Hello, my ancestral lines are connected to Pulaski County, Kentucky. I have a nice story to tell about a good friend of my grandparents...Robert Emmett Reynolds and wife Ophelia Gooch Reynolds. Their neighbor and friend "Took" Lay actually drove them in the 1930's to visit family in Northern Kentucky and into Ohio. "Took" had a car back in those days and my grandparents paid him to drive them north.
He was a very warm friend. His son Chester Lay was a classmate of my mother and the rumor was that he had a crush on her. My Mom is 83 at this writing (2009). She still recalls the Lay family. Any connection to you?

I have a William "Irish Hammer" in my linage. This name goes back when I started looking at the Maines and Sexton linage. In looking back at my linage, I have more information but this is what I can tie in with the William Edmundson you have listed:

William "Irish Hammer" Edmundson's parents were John Edmundson and Grace Ashton. John was born about 1578 in Little Musgrave Westmorelandshire, England. He died in March 27, 1635 in Little Musgrave Westmoreland, England. He married in 1582 in Little Musgrave, Westmoreland, England to Grace Ashton. Grace Ashton was born in 1582 in Little Musgrave Westmoreland, England. She died on Dec 21, 1631 in Little Musgrave Westmoreland, England.

John Edmundson's parents were Thomas Edmundson and Agnes ????. Thomas was born about 1540 in Little Musgrave Westmoreland, England. He died in same place as birth on April 17, 1590. He married in about 1554???? in England.
