Good afternoon, everyone,

My name is Justin Houser, from Bellefonte, PA. I am a direct descendant of Johann Eader (c1711-1784) of Montgomery and Berks Counties, Pennsylvania, USA, and his wife Dorothea (c1708-1790). For many years individuals have sought to trace the European origin of this line and whether it connects to other Eader/Etter(s)/Ader lines, including myself and Linda J. Etters of Howard, PA, whose husband Les is a direct male descendant.

With the advent of Y-DNA testing it is now possible for direct male descendants to submit samples to a testing service such as FamilyTreeDNA to see if matches are found. These matches can go a long way towards establishing which branches of immigrant families may be related, and spur further research based on the connections found. These submissions can be organized into groupings known as surname projects, to facilitate the sharing of lineage information.

Linda and Les have agreed to submit a DNA sample from his ancestral line. We would be very interested in hearing from others who are direct male descendants of an Eader/Etter/Ader/Edris and bear that surname (the son of a son of a son, etc.) and who would be willing to submit samples to the database for potential matches. It is a simple matter of submitting a cotton swab sample from the inside of one's mouth, and the requisite processing fee.

If anyone has a passionate desire to be the coordinator/liaison for the project, we'd also be interested to hear from you.

Here is a basic FAQ on the DNA testing process through FamilyTreeDNA:

I have been involved with another surname project which has yielded helpful genealogical results for the Wiant family, and we are anxious to see if further connections can be made on the Eader/Etris/Edris/Ader/Etter family lines. This may provide us with the opportunity to link and extend the Etris/Eader lineages beyond the immigrant and establish new family connections.
