I am a descendent of Thomas Edwards of colonial Dobbs Co., NC and his wife Mary. I have no idea who Thomas' father was or where Thomas originated from. By the 1750s, he was in Dobbs Co, NC. I descend through Thomas' son Cullin (alternate spelling Colin) Edwards, then through Cullin's daughter Mary "Pollie" Edwards who married William R. Murphey and settled in Washington Co, GA.

I was hoping someone may have some more information about this family.

Thomas Edwards and his wife Mary had a number of children , all of which are named in a lawsuit involving the estate of his son Col. Thomas Edwards (Jr). I am not sure when Thomas Edwards (Sr) died, but it was sometime before the 1816 lawsuit involving his son's estate. Thomas Edwards resided for a long time in Dobbs Co, NC and is present on colonial deed records there from the earliest period onwards.

--Theophilus Edwards is named as a son of Thomas Edwards and his wife Mary in his family bible. Theophilus was born 14 Feb 1765, married Elizabeth Sheppard 2 Jan 1797, died 7 Sep 1834. Had children named: Mary, Benjamin, Catherine, Thomas, Ann, Theophilis, Winefred, James M., James G....

--Henry Edwards. Named in intial 1816 lawsuit and in 1824 testimony, but neither he nor his heirs are named in final settlement. Presumably he died childless between 1824 and1825.

--Cullin (aka Cullen and Colen) Edwards, died before the 1816 lawsuit. He had two children: Mary "Pollie" Edwards who married William R. Murphey, and Sallie Edwards who married John Heath. Both children had moved to Washington Co, GA.

--Mary "Mollie" Edwards Hill,

--Nancy Edwards Sheppard,

--Elizabeth Edwards Harper, died between 1816 and 1824. She was wife of Blaney Harper. Apparently childless. None of her heirs received part of lawsuit settlement.

--William Edwards, died before the 1816 lawsuit. He had 10 children: Thomas, John, Isaac, William, Demsey, Polly (wife of Benjamin Hardee), Sally, Nancy, Absala, Elizabeth (wife of Joel Altman).

--Zilpha Edwards Stanley.. moved to SC. Died before 1816 lawsuit. Her children: John, William, Thomas, James, Mary, Zilphia, Elizabeth, Sarah, and Matthew.

--Col. Thomas Edwards (Jr). His estate was the subject of the lawsuit that named his siblings. He was married to Winefred in Jan 1809, but he died childless on 23 Jun 1816.
