Victor Eells sounds like the father of my mother-in-law and her sister, Madine and Nadine Eells. His name was Victor Clarence Eells, born in Colorado, and disappeared from the family in California in the 1920's. Madine said he had changed his name to Victor Holley. I am confused on his parents, but I know there was a story there. In 1900, he was in the Lyons, Colorado census listed as the son of Herbert Enos Eells and Myrtle Holley. I'm not researching this family, but did collect a little info years ago.

Then we're related in the far past. You mentioned that you have a distant cousin who is related to Rufus Cicero Eells. I have an obituary for his son, Irving Leroy Eells, who must have died in 1918. He and I are much more closely related. I have some things previously mentionede relating to the family from Battle Creek and Ida Grove Iowa. He probably does too.

If you or he would like to chat, would suggest email;
I don't like putting mine out in a format that can be harvested, but here it is with the characters being substituted for the words.
I have not found that sarah tubb's line goes back to the Mayflower. Re Wiliam Tubbs and Mercy Sprague:
"William married, probably at Duxbury, 9 Nov. 1637 Mercy Sprague, born probably in England ca. 1620; living in RI July 1668; daughter of Francis. With her parents she arrived at Plymouth in July 1623 on the vessel "Ann", the third to land at Plymouth. (Savage says; Francis Sprague, wife and one daughter came on Ann. At division of cattle in 1627, Mercey and Ann were his only named children. Francis was living in 1666.) The Spragues lived at Plymouth until ca. 1631-2 when Francis was among the early settlers of Duxbury. William also settled there for in all records following his marriage, he is given as a resident of Duxbury."

I do have a Mayflower ancestor in the Wilson line.

My documentation is the fact that my mother's Great Aunt Nettie Eells put her on the DAR list . I was also listed later as on the "Cradle Roll". I have a worksheet for my mother's brother for the SAR that was in old family papers. I also have an obituary for James Jerial Eells, died in San Franciso after becomming ill in the Phillipines during the Spanish American War. Also have obit for Adaline Smith and her brother, Alva Smith. I am listed on several genealogies on the net, or , at least, Bertha Marinda Eells being married to Iram Wilson is listed. I am as real as they come.

Harry's grandson is the Eells who came in my office on a cold sales call (Thats how we met).

If you can prove your line, I believe you also qualify for Sons of the American Revolution under Capt Waterman Eells.

You also qualify for Mayflower through Sarah Tubbs.

You also qualify for sever others (Patriots and Founders, etc).

Re: Eells book

Could you please check your book for John Lewis ELLS. Per the 1860 census, he was born in 1829 in Bibb County, Georgia. He is probably the son of Nathan ELLS since the only ELLS/EELLS listed in Bibb County in 1830 is a Nathan with a child the right age to be my John Lewis ELLS. There is also a Nathaniel EELLS listed in Bibb in 1840, again with a child the right age to be my John. My John Lewis ELLS moved from GA to NY because he was living in Troy, NY in 1850, married to Margaret (RICKARDS) less than a year. (This suggests a connection to the NY EELLS.) He moved back to Georgia between 1856 and 1860 because he and Margaret are listed in Savannah, Chatham, GA in the 1860 census, with their two oldest children, both b. NY. He then moved to Augusta, Richmond, GA about 1861, since he enlisted in the Confederacy from there. He was still in Augusta in 1870, with my great-grandmother (Jefferson Davis ELLS) added to the family. They moved to Baltimore, Baltimore, MD by 1880 (consistent with your possible death location of Baltimore) and then to Easton, Talbot, MD where he died in 1889.

John Lewis’ father, Nathan ELLS / Nathaniel EELLS, appears to be Nathaniel EELLS, b. 1798 in Catskill, New York, the son of Nathaniel EELLS b. 1773 in Stonington, CT and Hannah HOYT and descended from John EELLS, immigrant before 1640. (NATHANIEL6 EELLS, NATHANIEL5, NATHANIEL4, NATHANIEL3, SAMUEL2, JOHN1) Looking for confirmation in your Eells book!

THANKS! Jan

THANKS Cindy!

This is definitely MY John Lewis Ells. I have quite a bit of info about his career in the Confederacy but was unaware of the Mexican War connection. It makes sense; he was a little old for jumping into the war as a Sargent w/o experience.

Interesting that Nathaniel died in Troy, NY in 1854. That helps explain how my John Lewis was up there in 1850. I'll have look for him in the 1850 census in NY vs. GA!

It raises another question though: Why are John's siblings {Eliza, James, Francis/Fannie, and Mary} and probable mother, M[artha] W., still in Macon in 1850, without Nathaniel? Martha and two of the children are in Augusta, Richmond, GA in 1860 where John Lewis Ells moves by 1861.

John Lewis had two other children besides John. I am descended from his daughter, Jefferson Davis Ells who married Frank Percival Robson. His other daughter, Emma Francis Ells, married Samuel Meintzer and has several descendants into genealogy.

Thanks again! Jan

This is interesting. The Eells family originally came to the Boston area. I am a decendant of the Eells family. We lived in Calif. My grandmother was Alice Eells Wilcox of New York and is buried near Loma Linda, CA. I think you'll find you are a decendant of John Eells who lived in Dorchester, Mass. He came from England in 1622 to Scituate Mass. There is plenty of info on his family on the ancestry sites. We are related to the Mayflower family of Richard Warren and also the Snow Mayflower family. I have found Eells in many states and they are all originally from John Eells. Where in CA do you live?

The post you were responding to was from my 1st cousin. She has had a stroke and is unable to use the computer. I'm not positive what exactly she was working on when she posed that inquirey but we did share ancestry info. We have the same Eells line. The Eells family cemetary in Pierpont is our family. I'm willing to share or trade info I have.

Our grandmother was Alice Eells Wilcox of Saranac Lake, N.Y. Her father was Seth Eells of Peru, N.Y. We date back to John Eells of Plymouth, MA, Major Samuel Eells, Nathaniel Eells, Rev. Calvin Eells, etc. I know I am forgetting some of the line, I don't have info in front of me.

Linda Smith
lingaras@yahoo.com

Cindy, from what I just gleaned off of rootsweb.com, Abigail Glover is the Mayflower descendant. Her mother, Abigail Brewster, was the daughter of Rev. Nathaniel Brewster and Abagail Reymes. Nathaniel was the son of Love Brewster and his wife, Sarah Collier. Love was the son of William Brewster, of the Mayflower. Of course, you should verify all of this info. :)

My husband is descended as follows, from Joshua and Mary (Bill) Ells through their son, Daniel m Elizabeth H. Bennett, through their daughter Olivia. They also had children John, Jedediah, Samuel and Charles, if not more.

Olivia married John Henry Schofield and they adopted James Milledge Johnston/Trenholme who took Schofield as his name........becoming Milledge Schofield. Milledge and Emily Morine married and had Thornton who married another Schofield, Mamie Maude. They had Edna and Murrille.

Edna is my hubby's grandmother. Thornton died in 1918 in France, fighting with the Canadian forces, so Mamie and her 2 children lived with Emily. Mamie also took in Eldred Schofield, who was treated as a brother to Edna and Murrille. Laurene

I think most of the action on this Board is old. Hi distant cousin! I am also related to this line. Most of my Eells relatives were in Iowa and west.
