Re: Hannah Effingham

The Effingham family is a great mystery. My husband and I have been searching for at least 10 years now. There is a concentration of them in this tri-state area (WV, OH, KY), all related but the great ancestor of them all, George W. Effingham, is a mystery. He was born ca early 1800s, married Catherine Fielder, b 2/1822, 2/13/1851. He disappears after that. Later records indicate he is dead, Civil War? I believe he is connected to the New England Effinghams but unable to make a link because we are unable to travel to do research. If you have any information, I would be happy to share with you what we have to see if both of us can find common ground.
Hannah Effingham

I have never been able to find the parents of my Hannah EFFINGHAM who was born June 17, 1811 in Syracuse, New York and died Dec 20, 1891 in Hopkins, Missouri. She was married in Syracuse, New York to Edwin NEGUS. I have checked Syracuse records and have been down to Hopkins but nothing mentions her parents. Can anyone give me any help or guidance, thank you very much.
Doug
Hi, Pamela

I don't think I ever saw your new e-mail (hope it is still the new one you posted). In regard to Abraham Fielder, his daughter Catherine married my hus gggg-father George Effingham in Giles Co., Va. They had 4 children; James, Jasper, Ann and John. He disappears from all records. Catherine comes to Lawrence Co., Ky with her father Abraham. He remarries as her mother dies in MacGoffin, Co., Ky on the way. We have been to the cemetery where he is buried. If you will contact me, we can share what we have. Catherine's second husband, Michael Thompson, states on the children's marriage licenses that their father is dead. ? Hope to hear from you soon.
Marlene

Hi, John,
I tried to e-mail you but returned undeliverable. If you would e-mail me the info you have on the Effinghams I will try to find missing links. Aren't too many Effinghams. I'm contacting Giles County courthouse today to see if they have origin of George on his marriage license. Long shot. There were Effinghams in Windsor County, Vermont; Hampshire County, VA (now WV)and Giles and Wise Counties, VA. I have worked on both sides of my husband's and my families. Great success except for the Effinghams.
Have a nice day!
Marlene

George W. Effingham

I don't know. The only information I have is from a Giles Co., Virginia marriage record. States that Catherine Fielder b 2/1822 m George W. Effingham 2/13/1851. The family has no other information on him. He disappears from the scene and she is remarried in Lawrence Co., Ohio 11/20/1863 to a Michael Thompson. George and Catherine had 3 children: James, Jasper and Anne. On their marriage licenses in Ohio their father is listed as dead. Have no idea where he came from or where he went. Catherine was a Fielder and she came from VA to OH with her father, Abraham Fielder. By the way, there is now a message board of the www.genforum.com for the Effinghams. I finally got them to post it. Thanks for responding. If you can help further, I would appreciate it or maybe an area I can check. By the way, the 1860 Wise Co., VA census lists another George W. Effingham (child) and there is someone in VT (I think)named George W.
