Hi Bev;

Amy Egerton (who married William Hodges Stapley) was about 33 years old (& a Spinster) at the time of her marriage to William in 1909, & she was the daughter (possibly eldest) of Julian Egerton, Professor of Music. Her trade was Dressmaker & she was born in the Westminster (London) area.

Cheers,

Greg.
Hello Greg:
This could still help me in my research. Obviously, you're researching the Stapley side, but do you know anything about this Amy Egerton? I am trying to find out what happened to an Amy Bryant from Bristol, who in 1908, had an illegitimate son by Edwin Arthur EGERTON. I've found no record of Amy since 1908, and wonder if for some reason she took his name - I know they did not marry. Also, do you know how old your Amy was at the time of her marriage to William Stapley? Mine would have been around 19/20. Thanks in advance - Bev

John Bernard Egerton died in 1890.

The reason you may have lost track is they were in Jersey City, Hudson, New Jersey in the 1900 Census. In the course of my studies (I'm doing a one name study on Warburton) I've found 2 'ordinary' Warburtons using Egerton as a middle name.

Incidentally I found this post by accident as I googled for George Edward to complete my tree of the Warburton family of Arley for my website (google Warburton Surname Project).

If anyone wants to document the Egerton-Warburtons for my website they are welcome; I have enough plain Warburtons to keep me going for years.

In the Biographical Index of South Australians Vol 4, p. 1670, there is only one Warburton listed, name of John b. 1854 Eng, arriving SA per 'Aldergrove' 1883. He married Lucy ??? b. 1859 Eng. They had two children; the first was Horace (nd), the second was George b 1880.
I can't find any connection between your Charles and the Egerton-Warburtons. There were 10 children born to the Rev'd Rowland Egerton, MA(Oxon) at 'Norley Bank', Norley, Cheshire, England. He was a son of Philip Egerton, 9th Baronet of Egerton & Oulton.
The good CofE Rev'd adopted the extra paternoma 'Warburton' by patent.
He and his wife Emma Croxton had 10 children. They were:
Rowland Eyles Egerton-Warburton, Esq (1804-1891)
Emma Egerton-Warburton (b. 1805)
Rev'd James Francis Egerton-Warburton, MA (Oxon) (b.1807)
Maj. Henry William Egerton-Warburton (b. 1808)
Frances Mary Egerton-Warburton (b. 1809)
Maria Sybilla Egerton-Warburton (b. 1812)
Maj. Peter Egerton-Warburton (1813-1889)
Charolotte Egerton-Warburton (b. 1815)
Sophia Egerton-Warburton (b. 1815)
George Edward Egerton-Warburton (1819-1889)

As previously noted, Peter and George both migrated to Australia. Henry was a Major in the 47th (Lancashire) Regiment of Foot. James became the Rector of Warburton Parish (Warburton being part of the family's estates through marriage and bequest). Rowland Eyles as the eldest son inherited the properties.
I thinks that's all -- if anything else pops up, I'll let you know.
Cheers, Geoff (from a very warm and steamy Victoria in Oz!)

Re: Charles Egerton-Warburton & Amelia Stokes

Hi, I'm Kate Martin from New Zealand. My gt-gt-grandfather was Henry William Egerton-Warburton b 16 Aug 1808 of Warburton and Arley, Cheshire, who was a Major in the 47th Foot. Two of his brothers Peter and George Egerton-Warburton went to Australia. Peter [the explorer]b. 15 Aug 1813 married Alicia Mant 08 Oct 1838 in Bath Somerset and they ended up in South Australia.
I know Peter and Alicia had at least 6 children...Richard, Rowland James, William, Ethel, Mary and George, the last four definitely born in Adelaide.
Peter's brother, George Egerton-Warburton b. 25 Mar 1819 married Emily Coghlan [of Markfield, Australia] on 14 Apr 1873 in Yeriminup, Western Australia. At this stage I only know of two of their sons, Francis b1876 and Cecil b1878 But I think it was George that ended up in Western Australia in the Mt Barker region concentrating on farming.
I know that there was an expedition across Australia from South Australia to the coast in Western Australia...coming out somewhere up near Broome?
The Warburton Track, Warburton Crossing, Warburton Creek, the Warburton Range and the Warburton Mission were all named after the great explorer Peter Egerton-Warburton.
I was told about the trek by my mother when I was young [My mother was Australian] But I'm sorry to admit the details are very sketchy now. I may be much mistaken but I thought the trek took six years...!! It was all unexplored desert. I know that Peter was the explorer. I'm just not sure if George partook in any of it or just concentrated on farming.
Also, my understanding is that funds were sent from Arley Hall in Cheshire to Western Australia [probably in the latter half of the 1800's] to set up a chapel on the Egerton-Warburton property located down in the Mt Barker region of Western Australia.
And yes, it is most likely that many descendants would have dropped the Egerton part of the double-barrelled name.
However, there is some most amazing history down both the Egerton and the Warburton lines, so knowing what I know now... I can quite understand why certain personages wanted to maintain both names!
I know there are lots of descendants in WA because I remember there was a reunion back in about 1975. I was working in Perth at the time but sadly only found out after it was all over through articles in the newspaper.
I'd be interested to know if your Charles Egerton -Warburton is related or not.
Kate

I am interested in your posting as I am researching a WEBSTER family that ended up in New Zealand after 1916 the husband was called Egerton Thomas Branford WEBSTER b. 1886 Nottingham, Eng. I believe he was born in Great Boughton, Cheshire 1843. I have only just started on this line for a friend.

The Egerton name is significant to this family and I have found a souple more examples in Cheshire as Egerton being a middle name with WEBSTER.

Dsilva.Genealogy@btinternet.com

Linda

Hello Jennifer. That is the family. Your grandfather, Pete, was my wife's father's brother. My wife's father was William George Egerton.

They were the sons of George Edwin Egerton and Fannie Cunningham. George's father was Thomas Egerton and his mother was Emma Kent, both of England. I would like to compare notes to fill some gaps. I have Emma Kent's father and mother from Gloucester but do not know who Thomas' parents were. I suspect a William but that is simply deductive reasoning.

Please e-mail me at ron.dale@sympatico.ca and I will send you a GEDCOM.

Ron Dale

It's possible, but I have no record of your Charles Egerton.
My great grandad Charles Egerton was born in Darlington in about 1896 after his father Charles Henry had moved there from Manchester, settled and married. He remained in the north east.
It could be that your grandfather was a relative, as my mum (who was born in the north east) remembers visiting relatives in Manchester after her family moved back to Irlam in 1930.
If I find out any more I will post it
I have traced my mother's line back to Thomas Egerton, born in Manchester in either 1827 or 1829, who worked as a cotton dyer and was married to Elizabeth from Flintshire, north Wales.
They had six children by 1871, Thomas (also a dyer), Luke, Charles (my great grandad), William, Deborah and Samuel.
They lived at 15 Clifford St Chorlton.
Click with anyone?

My mother's father was Charles (Charlie) Egerton, born approx. 1888, probably in Salford or Manchester. He married Elizabeth Pilsbury in 1908 and worked as a canal boatman either side of WW1, when he served with the 8th South Staffordshire Rgt.

Could there be a connection

I have a lot of family names I would like to match up with anyone who may be related. People in my family spell it with and without the "d" I traced back to the early to mid 1800's. We own a land in Louisberg. We are of African and Native American Descent. Hope to link up with anyone that may be related to us to compare notes. The Egerton name has been in family for as far back as I have been able to research, weird thing is my great grandmother was already and egerton when she married an egerton. So far there is no relationship between them, but who knows. May have been cousins somewhere down the line.

She married David L. Smith in 1857 (Canada). She died in Michigan, USA. George has living descendants in Canada, whom I am also looking for.

EGERTON, HENRY (?-?) Are you related?

EGERTON, HENRY (?-?). Henry Egerton, a native of New York, was long a resident of Matamoros, Tamaulipas in Mexico. In May 1832 James Prentiss gave him a letter of introduction to Sam Houston. On January 1, 1834, Egerton and Fortunato Soto secured an empresario grant to settle 800 families in Texas, but their contract was never fulfilled. In January 1844 Egerton and Soto were in correspondence with Benjamin Lundy concerning petitioning for land in northern Mexico. D. E. Egerton, an Englishman, was also a Texas empresario.

If you are related to this person, we need correct dates of birth and deaths, parents names' and any other information you feel should be included in his obituary.AS you can see, we haven't got very much information for a good obituary here.
