Richard, I think I wrote you years ago about the Eggen family items. I hope you were able to get them into the correct hands.
I was just reviewing some information on the Eggen family of Garden City, Ks and I think your query might have just cleared up a mystery for me. :-) I am trying to piece together all the Eggens that moved to Kansas from Kentucky and again ran across William T. Eggen and wife Alice Hatton Eggen. On the 1900 census they had a child Charles B. Eggen living with them marked as a son; however, on the 1910 census they when they were enumerated, they had a Eugene C. B. Eggen, listed as a cousin. Would this be your father? I have him listed on the 1930 census with wife Martha C. and children Charles E., Richard D. and Beverly B. Are you this Richard? Please write me @ dolmom@aol.com. I would love to clear up this mystery and is the name Borton instead of Barton?

I do have a lot of information on the Eggen family of Kentucky. I don't know how much you have on Alberta Mae Eggen. I show her father as Mathias Eggen and her mother Serena Caroline Shelburne Eggen. She was married to Thomas Earle Cowherd. I have two children listed for her and Thomas. They are Mary Catherine and William Earle. Is this your Alberta Mae Eggen? If so, let me know and I will send you an invite to my tree. I have it private for the moment for personal reasons but will probably open it back up to the public. I would love to have a picture of Alberta and any other family members you would care to share. I love and treasure old pictures.

my grandmother was Alberta Mae Eggen and I am having trouble finding much on the Eggen family. I did find the name "Mahala" which is native american. I would greatly appreciate any information you have regarding my family. I can also send you a picture of my grandmother. She was a dear lady that loved to fish and taught me what wild greens you can eat. I miss my grandmother and it is my wish to track her family.

I thought I would start a new Message regarding the search for John Eggen's parents. Per my earlier message I think I have found John Eggen in Nord Netherlands in 1784. I waited until now to see if any additional information might become available, but nothing has turned up so I thought I would do some more research on him. I remembered my sister telling me about a web site called Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness and they do have International Volunteers. I have "met" a very kind gentleman named Jan Brul who does research in Nord Netherlands. He has been most helpful in researching the Jan Eggen I had found previously and we have both come to the conclusion that this Jan Eggen is more than likely our John Eggen. I am going to enter all the information he has passed on to me and if anyone who is researching John Eggen and Eunice Pound Eggen would like to comment, please feel free to do so.

Jan also states there are no old censuses of Amsterdam left.
In additional correspondence with Jan he writes:
The family name Eggen is not very popular in the Netherlands. The site http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/nfb/index.php gives information about the apperance of family names in 1947 and 2007. The site has also an english interface.

I do not find the marriage of a Jan Eggen or birthes of childern of him in Amsterdam. I do not find his burial before 1811 or his death from 1811. So the possibility that he emigrated are high. You mentioned the first names that he gave to his childern. Their first names fit the pattern used here and are another proof. The Netherlands was in 1805 already occupied by Napoleon Bonaparte. I have no idea what influence this had on dutch able men.

In another reply, Jan wrote:
There are no emigration records in that time frame (1800-1805) So no help there. It seems that most of his brothers and sisters died at a young age.
The marriage records 1811 and later are only alphabetized on the grooms. Brides 1811-1854 are on a index on paper. I will look and see if Femmetje Eggen is there.

So now, here's my question to all you researching John Eggen of Holland, should we accept this Jan Eggen as our John Eggen and record his parents as Matthijs Eggen and his mother as Albertje Rodermont or leave him as we have him now, parents unknown? I welcome any comments on this matter. I for one think Jan and John are one and the same.

I would also like to give a big THANK YOU to Jan Brul for all his research he did for me. Volunteers like Jan and others around the world are the ones that enable us here in America in our research of our earlier families that immigrated here.

Did you ever find any information on John Eggen and his two wives? He is a brother to my Joseph Eggen line and I have quite a lot of info on him and his two Janes. Wife #1 was Jane Glass and wife #2 was Jane Duncan. Let me know if you need more information. I show he had 5 children by each wife. If you haven't been able to gather more information on him, I can help. As this is a fairly old message I'm not sure how far you have progressed since you wrote.

I have researched my Eggen/Hovind/Oie ancestors Norway and Sweden records and I must add additional and correct information to my Great Grandparents information Alfred Leonard Eggen and Inga Gurina Hovind Eggen and their parents history. The parents of Alfred Leonard Eggen are Lars Evensen Eggen from Rennebu, Sor-Trondelag, Norway and Antona Brigette Marie Blomqvist born in Troms; however, her father was born in Sweden and her Mother in Norway. Inga Gurina Hovind's parents , my 2xgreat grandparents,Ole Hovind was born in Hovin, Sor-Trondelag, baptized in Melhus, Norway. Elen Pedersdatter "Oie" was from the Oieren farm and baptized in Melhus, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. Elen's mother is from Storen, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. I have copies of the baptismal documents, Norway 1865 Census and the migration records from Norway. The families departing port was Trondheim; however, I have not located any records stating they were from Trondheim, only they departed from that port to America.

I am the grand daughter of Alice Glencross. She died in 1984 in Tofield Alberta and is buried in Victoria B.C. She had 4 sons. One from a previous marriage to a Johansen and 3n sons with Glencross. I would like to find out any info I can on my grandmother and on the Glencross family tree.

I am the grand daughter of Alice Glencross. I never new my grandfather Glencross but did hear rumors that he died in B.C. in the 70's. She had 3 sons with Mr. Glencross. Arnold, Harold and Arthur, she also had a son from her first marriage to a Johansen. My grandmother died in 1984 and Arthur died a few years later.
Maybe we are related. What was your great Uncle's name?

I am not sure if this helps. My father's name is Nels Eggen. His fathers birth name was Nels Pederson and his father came from Eggen Norway. I am not sure what year that was, but I do know he was probably in his 20's. He owned a farm in Northern Minnesota US. He worked hard and brought over his Brother and their family.

I do not know much more, but could probably find out.

I forgot to mention that Alice was born in Washburn Wisconsin to Oscar & Ashley Eggen. Her grandparents were Lars & Antona Eggen. They were from Troms Norway and apparently came over on the Pennsylvania. I do not know if she had brothers or sisters.
I also know that she was married before your gr. uncle to a R.Johansen and that they had one son Oscar who is now deceased.
Hope this helps a bit. If she was married to your gr. uncle then bingo you have found a relative.

I'm researching the family of John Eggen (b. about 1814 in Ohio - although at least one record says Pennsylvania), son of John Eggen Sr. and Eunice Pound. I don't have any family records, so I'm working just from census records, etc. Based on these records, I believe that he was married twice and that both women were named Jane. Does anyone have any information about the parents and/or maiden names of his wives?

Here's what I know:

In 1850, John was living in Hardin Co., Kentucky with Jane #1(b. 1809 in Kentucky) and their children James Colier, John, Margaret and William.

In 1856, John was in Monroe Co., Iowa, living with the four children as a widower.

In 1860, John was in Monroe Co., Iowa, living with Jane #2(b. 1834 in Ohio), the four children from his first marriage and Mary, a 1 year old child. This leads me to believe that he probably married Jane #2 in about 1858.

I'm particularly interested in information about the second Jane, since my ancestor was one of her children, but I'd be happy to hear any information you have about either wife.

I am a desendant of the Eggans. My grandmother was Alice Eggen. My greatgrandparents were Oscar M. & Ashley Eggen. They married in 1907 in Washburn Wisconsin. His parents were Antona & Lars Eggen apparently from Norway. She remarried to Ole Holberg(step father to Alfred Leonard & Oscar M. Eggen. They had 2 biological daughters named Olga & Emma.
I am searching too, but this info has just come to me via the wonderful internet.

Are you related to Oscar M. Eggen. His wife's name was Ashley (maiden name Hostland). They married in 1907 in Washburn Wisconsin. His parents were Lars & Antona Eggen. The children were named Oscar, Alfred Eggen Antona remarried Ole Holberg and they had 2 daughters Olga & Emma. Oscar & Ashley had a daughter named Alice.(my Grandmother)

My grandmother was Alice Eggen. Oscar M. Eggen was my grandmothers father. He had a brother named Alfred. Is this the same man? Both Alfred & Oscar were stepons to Ole Holberg. Their natural parents were Antona & Lars Eggen, born in Norway. Alfred was born in 1884 I think.

I am the great grand daughter of Oscar M. Eggen, Alfred Eggen's brother. Oscar & Alfred were step sons to Ole Holberg. They were the sons of Lars & Antona Eggen.Oscar married on November 23,1907 at the Norwegian Luthern Church, Washburn Wisconsin. They had a daughter named Alice (my Grandmother) I am seeking any information that I can on my family. I know that they lived in Wisconsin in the late 1800 early 1900.
They have Antona listed as being born in Norway as was Lars.

This message is to all you people that are researching John & Eunice (Pound) Eggen and their children. I don't want to get your hopes up, but I think I have found John in Holland.
I found a record of a birth on family search.org for a Jan Eggen, christened Feb. 29, 1784 in Amsterdam, Noord Holland, Netherlands. Jan would be the Dutch equivalent to our John. Now, here's the exciting part. His father's name is Matthijs Eggen (sounds close to Matthias, John's second son doesn't it?)(First son named after Eunice's father, Joseph)and then (more excitement!!) mother's name is Albertje Rodermont. (John's first daughter is Albertina - also sounds a lot like Albertje). I finally got the microfilm record for this christening, but not much more information on it except the Getuigen (Dutch for testify-attest) wer Teunis Rodermont and Tzyntje Rodermont. Now we have the name Teunis (similiar to Tunis-another son) There are two dots over the y in Tzyntje so I'm not sure how that is pronounced. I don't know if the witness were Albertje Rodermont's mother and father or someone else.
As for the difference in one year on John's date, that is possible. I know from my own family it can get mixed up. My maternal grandfather thought he was a year younger than he was. The name Tunis I'm not sure about as John & Eunice's neighbor in Ohio was Tunis Vanderver so their son Tunis could be named after him.

My grandmother Martha Schweer(Novak)from the Conrad Schweer Family had twins in her family a boy Emil and a girl Olga that married into the Olstad family. Martha and her family were from Butterfield, Minnisota and I know that they migrated to Rosalind, Alberta Canada. Check out this site. http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=4556. You should be able to find out some more information about the Olstads and possibly the Eggens.

John H. Eggen and Gjertrud Hendricksdatter

Looking for information for John H. Eggen b. 1840 in Norway. Married to Gjertrud (sp.) Hendricksdatter, possibly in Iowa. Gjertrud was b. 1841 in Norway . They settled in the Hendricks Township area in the 1870s.

From US Census records, I know that John immigrated with his family to the US from Norway in 1857. Gjertrud also immigrated with her family from Norway but they came in 1854.

I'm looking for their immigration and naturalization records and death records. Also, if anyone knows where in Norway they came would be very helpful. I think John came from the Singsas area. I can't find any records at the Digitalarkivet for that area.

know your search is old but I am an Eggen in australia. Born in Holland in 1949. Immigrated in 1954. A cousin in Holland (curator in museum) suggests we come from Norway.Look up Gene Eggen.A sculptur and artist. Would love to get a reply. Also,just found out that there was a Nordic ski maker called Gjermund Eggen.(check Google (Wooden Ski Manufacturers)If possible, please reply.

It looks like my grandmother married your great uncle. She was married to as Johansen then to a Glencross. I know she lived in Riley Alberta and Victoria B.C.
I have no real history and sure would love to know about my ancestors so I have something to share with my children.

Hello Maybe your a relative...
My name is Anna-Marie and I am the grand-daughter of the late Alice Glencross. I know that my grandmother was married to a Reinhart Johansen before she married a Glencross. Her 1st. son my father was |Oscar Johansen and then she had three sons with Glencross. Arnold, Harold and Arthur. I have her mom and dad's wedding invitation. Her father is listed as Oscar and her mother was Ashley. They were masrried in Washburn Wis. Grandma lived in Riley Alberta and then in Victoria B.C.
If you do get this please reply. I have no family history asnd I saw another message that said she had a brother, which I was not aware of. How are you related to Grandma?

Does the name Schweer or Lars Olstad ring a bell to you?? They were from Wataskawin, Canada and from what I understand, my grandmother Martha Schweer Novak was related to a Olga (who married Lars Olstad) and Olga's twin brother who married a woman by the name of Eleanor Olstad (Perhaps related to Lars?) I have no information other then that except that the Olstad's had children, I have found several Olstads in Canada that perhaps are a relation but I am not sure... My great grandfather, Conrad Schweer (a farmer from Minnisota?) set up his homestead with 14 children (seven of which died from childhood illnesses) in Wataskawin.. I know that through marriage the Olstad's are related to me... Does anyone have any information??? Other names included East (Janet), Novak (that as my grandmother's married name (married a Frank A. Novak)
