My great-great grandfather Johan Heinrich Eggert left the German town of Brakelsiek abour 1835 or 1836, and came to Windsor, Ontario in the employ of a family named Wolf. In 1837, Henry married Sophia Freitag (also of Germany) whom he had met while in service, in Detroit. A few years later, they moved to Milwaukee, then again to Stephenson County, Illinois. Henry had three brothers, Freidrich, Kristuf, and Christian Eggert who all farmed and may have descendants in these places.
In 1856, Henry Eggert and his family moved to the Lawrence, Kansas area, with sons Henry, Charles, Frederick and Chris.
Their story before and during the Civil War is available in the Kansas Collection at the University of Kansas.
However, I have lost contact with anyone who can tell me much about the family since then. I am the great grandaughter of Henry's second son Charles, who moved in the 1870's to Salem, Oregon - then to Seattle.
Would dearly love to contact someone who could help me fill in the blanks in my family. Who knows? Perhaps I can help someone, as well.
