Hi Diana, I have been to your grandparents home in Ft. Wayne. I remember sitting in their kitchen with my grandma Sarah and talking to Aunt Anna. Where did you live as a child? I never thought that they had children.
Bishop Henry Egly Family Bible

I have the Egly family bible, don't know if it came over on the boat with the family. My grandfather was the oldest and it got pasted down to him. I remember as a child seeing it in the dining room and when my grandfather had it rebound. I took it to Berne last year, thinking that the church may want it for their archives, but my cousin said to keep it because it might not be appreciated, as much as I do. It is beautiful, but unfortunately, no one wrote anything in it. I was so hoping that there would be notes. Maybe I will get it out tonight to explore to see if it is from Bishop Henry or from the old family farm, in Geneva. Have any of you gone back to see the homestead? The barn and home are build of Walnut, so still standing The second house (Summer House) is gone. I have a photo of it from when Henry and Kathryn lived there. Unlike today, the kids kept coming home.

Helle, I am a granddaughter of Simon Egly and do have a " book" from my mom. When I was in Berne last Fall, a cousin mentioned that there may be books or copies available at the Berne Library. Do you know any details about the location of the Egly Castle on Lake Geneva? Mom had a picture, but can't find it and hoping to go there next year.

I also have a copy of this book given to me by my grandmother. Apparently Bishop Henry Egly was related to my grandfather Arthur M. Ulrich on his mother's side who was raised mennonite and became a Baptist preacher all his life. I do not know much information about his mother or just how far back this goes, any information would be helpful. Thank you.

After the death of my grandparents I found a picture of Katherine (Goldsmith) Egly which is in this book. I have a book titled Life Of Bishop Henry Egly by David N. Claudon and Kathryn E. Claudon. The book contains about 20 pages of information.

Hi Betty,
My grandfather is Howard R. Eggley (1915-1996) and his parents were Frederick H Eggley Sr (1868 - 1936) and Mary Anne Parson (1882 - 1928). I think I read that Frederick Sr was your grandfather so you must be the daughter of Chester, Iola, Fred or Bertha? I am just beginning my research and have been able to trace a bit back to Conrad Eggley and Edward Parson and Emma Parson, nee Cochran. I see your post was in 2002 and was hoping you might have information that might help? This is the first post I have made and hope you will see this. My email address is culgharper@yahoo.com. Thanks much!

EGLY Family Record

I have a book called "EGLY Family Record, A Chronology of the Descendents of Henry Egly, 1824-1958" Compiled and published by Albert and Anna Egly in 1957. I am looking for others who may have copies also, so we can share new entries.
The book is a listing of about 300 individuals who are related to Bishop Henry Egly, b.4-5-1824, d. 6-23-1890. He was the son of Abraham Egly and Magdalena Reber. He was married to Cathryn (Katherine) Goldsmith in 1849 and had 8 children. His son Jacob Egly (b.9-21-1849) was married to Lydia Moser. Jacob and Lydia were my great great grand parents. Any info to share would be appreciated. Rose

Thanks for replying. The book in reference was published by Albert and Anna S. Egly, Fort Wayne , Indiana in either 1957 or 1958. It was done by the family. I do not know how many are in existence as the copies were not numbered. They are soft cover books and are bound by plasctic rings. It was for the descendents of Bishop Henry Egly born 4-5-1824 in Grosherzogthum, Baden, Germany, and his wife Cathryn (Katherine) Goldsmith born 6-15-1827. Henry was the son of Abraham and Magdalena (Reber) Egly. Abraham is the son of Jakob And Magdalena (Frei) Egle. Do you have any connections to this Egly? Do you have any names and dates in the late 1700 and the early 1800 for me to check? Abraham had many brothers and many came here as Amish Mennonites. Most settled in the Indiana and Illinois area.Rose Oyer Gauthier

I have not found information on these CDs about Bishop Henry Egly, but there was info about his parents and a few more generations going back.
Hi Rose. My grandfather was Fredrick Henry Eggley Jr(Madison county. IL) b 1900 and died 1964 m. (Knisley) His father was Fredrick Henry Sr b. Switzerland m.Mary Parsons. Would you have any info on this line? I am just beginning my search and am amazed at the many spelling variations of this surname. I found Fredrick Sr in the 1920 census for Madison Conty, IL. He was 52 yrs old so assume he was born around 1864. He was residing in Nameoki township. I would appreciate ANY info . Thank you in advance. Betty

Hello Rose, I also am unable to email the sites webmaster, but I think I may have a valid postal address for the Schenbeck side of the family board and I exect to drop a postcard in the mail to see if I can establish contact that way. Be patient; it will take longer. For now see what he has available and prepare for hopeful future contact.
Diana

Phillip, do you have a copy of "Life of Bishop Henry Egly" published by your grandparents, David N. and Kathryn Claudon?

As I recall it, my granparents published a copy of the "EGLY Family Record" for each person included in it plus a few more to make it an even print run. I don't mean to be discouraging, but I think not many people will let a predicessor's copy slip through their hands.

(At least my grandfather donated on there and I don't immagine them discarding it.)

There is an online version of it as well. Let me find the web page and get back to you.
