Marie Smith
East Liverpool---Marie Smith, 73, of Hollywood Avenued, died at 4:25 a.m. Monday at the Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh following a lengthly illness.
She was born Jan. 9, 1921 in Bernie, W.Va., the daughter of James Earl and Nina Avis Stowers Egnor, and moved to East Liverpool in 1942.
Mrs. Smith was a home care aide for more than 20 years before retiring.
A member of the Salvation Army since October 1944, she was a Sunday School teacher and Corps Cadet councelor. She was also a member of its Home League, the Salvation Army Order of the Silver Star and the Grandparents of teh Salvation Army. She held neighborhood Bible study for the children of her neighborhood and was active in many other church activities.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Smith, whom she married Jan. 11, 1939; a daughter Mrs. Edward (Brenda) Cain of Bryan, Ohio; four sons, Robert Smith of Bonaire, Ga., Maj. James Smith of Cleveland, Kenneth Smith of Perris, Calif., and Lyle Smith of East Liverpool; a sister, Betty Hinkle of Griffithsville, W. Va.; a brother, the Rev. Clee Egnor of Culloden, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Ezra Egnor.
Salvation Army Maj. Dorothy Woods and Maj. William Brewer of Pittsburgh will conduct services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Salvation Army Citadel.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends my call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Dawson Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the Citadel.
