I have read these names before & have seen the marriage info on various sites. In my family we have a Christian Reher from Hamburg. He married Madalene Elbea (Ehlbeck?), I am told she was from Hamburg also. Their daughter was my gg-grandmother, Hermina Reher (Mueller). She moved to NY/NJ area around 1895-1899. I know there were three Rehr cousins in the German Army that she was related to. I have their picture taken in Hamburg. Names were Albert, Henri, & I think Hermann. Maria Ehlbeck is also in my family from Hamburg b.1857 & married to a Christian Hamer b.1856. I hope you will have some info to add to this. Thank-you.

They settled in Jersey City where they joined her husband, Christian Hamer, who emigrated a yr. earlier in March.

Ehlbeck's in Hudson, NJ

Big family of Elbeck's in Jersey City-late 1800's to early 1900's. Furniture, cabinet making, & the hardware store business seemed to be what this family did for a living. Some lived on North St. & also Cambridge Ave. The business was at 298 Central Ave., Ehlbeck Brothers Furniture. It was owned by Ferdinand & William. My g-g grandmother lived in the same area & I believe her to be a sister, cousin, or neice. Her name was Maria Ehlbeck Hamer born in Hamburg, 1856, as I am told. She married Christian H Hamer. He lived at 62 Cambridge Ave., William lived at 61 Cambridge, & his brother Ferd. lived at 63 Cambridge; all according to the Jersey City Directory 1891-1893. Does anybody out there know anything about these Ehbeck's or their history? I would love to know more. Also how about a Louisa Ehlbeck? She was a witness at my g-grandmother's baptism. I believe her daughter was Annie Ehlbeck Kunath. Thank, Pam.

Hi Bev, have just found this Ehlbeck page. My great grandparents were Johann Peter and Metta Philipine Ehlbeck formerly Seebeck nee Suden who emigrated to New Zealand in 1871, well Metta and family did, but have nothing on Johann guess he died previously. I live in Australia and their doesn't appear to be families in N.Z. or Aust, is it a very common name elsewhere.

However, yes it would be interesting if he was your great grandfather. He had two children that lived through his first wife, and I have no idea what became of them. They were Louis Albert and William Charles. I think one of them moved to California but I am not sure if this is so, or where in California.

Please let me know anything that you know about your ancestors.
My great grandfather

I am a great grandson of said Johann Albert Ehlbeck and Anna (Nee Bruggermann. My Grandfather was Johannes Heinrich Ferdinand Ehlbeck. He emigrated to New York before 1882 and settled in Jersey City NJ. He was a succesful merchant. My grandfather had two wives, the first was Friederike Wilhelmine Flechsenhaar who died at the age of 23. His second was the second was katherine Marie Elise Huge.

I am interested in learning any geneology concerning these people. I am particularly interesded in learning of siblings of Johannes Heinrich Ferdinand (called Ferdinand). I have heard rumors of a brother that also lived in Jersey City. I also remember when I was very young meeting an Uncle, (I believe his name was Willhelm) who was a sea captain in Germany. This was prior to 1940.

I am sure we are talking about the same person. Please let me know what information you have. By the way, my daughter is Laurie Ruffenach.

Al Ehlbeck

Ehlbeck heritage

I'd be be interested in anyone with Ehlbeck ancestory. I live in canada. My grandfather was Karl Heinz Ehlbeck and had two brothers who resided in/around Hamburg after ww2 they would have been born about the 1920's. We lost touch with everyone as the family didn't like my grandma and disowned my grandfather.
