Recently deciphered the writing on the back of a photo; my great grandfather Charles Penkwitz is sitting at a table with John and Jack Ehle. The label on the back indicates the photo is from Chicago, however, I do not know that my grandfather ever left WI. Found a John Ehle mentioned in WI archives as a tavern (Inn) keeper in Plymouth, Sheybogan county.Anyone think they are related? (they would have been born in 1860s judging by photo.

The photo is probably of Rowena and Florence EHLE, daughters of John Holmes EHLE and Georgianna CORNUE. Rowena b. 30 Apr 1877, Florence b. 7 Nov 1881. Probably taken in McHenry Co, IL. Just a guess, but probably a good one.

I am from Michigan and both of my grandparents are related to the Ehles one by a second marriage and one by blood.

Jacob S. Ehle & Mary Tilden Hull had nine sons. My grandpa knew most of them as they were his great-Uncles.
It becomes very cluttered in the Ehle lines because the same names are used many times in the different branches of the family (cousins having the same name) and because most of the 9 boys went by something other than their given names.
My GGGrandfather went by Earnest but his name was Albert Earnest.
The nine boys were as follows:
Arthur J
John Alfred
Frances Dewey went by F. Dewey(Reverand)
Milo Ward
Albert Earnest went by Earnest
Charles Edwin
James Harvey Newton
Carleton Emerson
Gordon Stuart

Sadly John Alfred died from a horse kick to the head as the entire family was preparing to leave Canada for Michigan, causing them to delay until the next spring.

In early January (2008) my grandparents are supposed to be bringing me photos of many Ehles including the nine brothers. I am going to do my best to get them all scanned in as fast as I can. My grandparents are a great resource for me so if anyone has any questions: sjschmidt@gr8sale.com

Rank and organization: Fireman First Class, U.S. Navy. Born: 11 May 1873, Kearney, Nebr. Accredited to: Nebraska. G.O. No.: 502 14 December 1898. Citation: On board the U.S.S. Concord off Cavite, Manila Bay, Philippine Islands, 21 May 1898. Following the blowing out of a lower manhole plate joint on boiler B of that vessel, Ehle assisted in hauling the fires in the hot, vapor_filled atmosphere which necessitated the playing of water into the fireroom from a hose.

Burial: Oakland, CA in St; Mary's Cemetery

I had just found this information in the Pennsylvania German Church Record (book) Volume 1.
Parents: Heinrich "Henry" EHL b. abt. 1765, married: Anna Maria (maiden name unk), abt. 1782/3, b. Abt. 1765; Children: Catherine EHL, b. 28 Jul 1790; married Peter Kraemer abt.. 1818, d. aft 1870 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (I have her children).
J. George Fred EHL, b. 4 Dec 1784 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The children were both baptised in the First Reformed Church in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
I'm looking for more info on parents and the son.
There is a posibility that the surname had changed spellings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Pfc. Jeremy W. Ehle, 19, of Richmond, Va., died on April 2 in Hit,

I am looking for any information on a Frank Ihle/Ehle who was married to a Margaret Ritz.
The have three sons named Thomas, Anton (born 1861) married a wowan with the last name Steinkey and Peter (born Dec 13 1860) (died Aug 20, 1953 who married a Margaret Steinkey. Thomas was born Apr 16 1863 and died apr 23,1932. Thomas married a Genevieve Shaffer who was born Sept 29, 1870 and died Jan 22, 1935. They also had a daughter Margaret born in 1865 who married a man withthe last name Hiltzendaeger.

Thomas was my great great great grandfather.
He had eight children Jacob, Nick, Anton, Joseph, John, Xaiver, Barbara, and Margaret.

I'm trying to find out if Johan Jost Ehle is buried with his wife, Eva Lower Ehle. Eva's name and dates of birth and death are on the same large tombstone as their daughter's (Catherine Ehle Hood, wife of James Hood), in Oakwood Cemetery in Chittenango (Madison County) NY. Johan's name is not listed on the stone and his name is not on the cemetery list. If anyone has information about this, please e mail me. Thanks!

My husband and I met with you in Skull Valley and have attended a few of the events that have been held. As a matter of fact you took us on a tour of the valley. We sure would like to find more about Albert -- he is very evasive. Bob Ehle has a family photo showing Albert and gave us a xerox copy but we really need a copy of the photo itself. Hi ! You remember me from your visit to Skull Valley,AZ I have been trying to connect the Joseph Ehles back to the Domini JJEhle of Mohawk Valley. My info says he was the son of Adam Ehle & Mary Sternberg....decended from the Johan Christian Ehle and Maria E. Lipe ;to Johannes Ehle, "Minden line".....no wife identified?? Johannes was reportedly the half brother of Dominie JJEhle.
I now have the complete info on Ehle homesteads here in SkullValley and have a more complete listing of the Ehle families of SV.

Hi! I have the land patent information issued to Albert E. Ehle and went to school with some of Joseph B. Ehle's ggrand children here in Skull Valley,AZ. Also have Patent info on John H Ehle & Landy Ehle.
As I understand, Albert, son of John returned back East from here!

Mohawk Valley Ehles and Allied Families

The book is done but there's always holes to fill and cousins to find. Tracking the descendants of three early (pre-1750) EHLE immigrants to the Mohawk Valley of NY. Some descendants are still there but many followed the typical migration routes into central NY then MI, WI, IL, MN and on to KS, CA, WA, AZ, etc. As the daughter married, I have tried to track these allied families as well including KNOX, ZOLLER, PRIEST, HELMER, FOX, REESE/RIES, RICKARD, HESSLER, WALRATH/ WALRADT, HAWN, BUSS, BETTINGER, LIPE, SPONENBURG, VAN SLYKE, PICKARD, STORMS, and many more. If your research interests touch the Ehle families, would enjoy hearing from you and comparing notes.

Ehl - From Luxembourg to US & Canada

Looking for any information on Joseph and Pierre Ehl who came to the US from Luxembourg in the 1880's. There is a possibility that Pierre had a middle name 'Frank' and went by Frank Ehl. Their brother Nicolas Ehl arrived in the US prior to Joseph and Pierre and went to Canada. Joseph and Frank are believed to have stayed in the US. They are the children of Nicolas Ehl and Catherine nee Reiland. If anyone has any information on a Joseph, Pierre /Frank Ehl I would appreciate hearing from you.

I think I have an "EHL" in my line. I found my GGF's name in a search of the Illinois websites, he - Alois WACH married a Mary EHL (who I thought to be "BETTINGER" until finding this) according to the license I found. The marriage took place Mar 5, 1889 in LaSalle County, Illinois. It is shown to be recorded in Vol 2 Page 270 Lic # 4514. They had at least 1 son, my maternal GF. I am looking for any information on my gggrandfather, George M. Ehle, born June 15, 1838, birth place unknown. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1863 while living in Enfield, Tompkins County, New York. His father is listed as John Ehle. I have found a John Ehle listed in the Enfield New York Business Directory for the years 1868-69; mother's maiden name unknown. George married Mary Jane Kirkendall. They lived in Trumansburg (Tompkins County) New York for many years until their deaths in 1940.
