TIPTON, Iowa -- Robert Fredrick Walter Ehlers, 74, of 1112 Lynn St., Tipton, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after complications of cancer.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. DeLane Wright will officiate. Pallbearers are James Fonteyne, John Foley, Cecil Slach, Michael Ehlers, Matthew Fonteyne and Jeff Beck. Honorary pallbearers are Roland Thomson, Leland Thomson, Gary Thomson, Kenneth Ehlers and Merlin Ehlers. Burial will be at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, Tipton.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Ehlers was born on Dec. 27, 1928, in rural Clarence, Cedar County, the son of Albert August and Lena Wilmina Meyer Ehlers. He married Shirley Lee Thomson on May 4, 1973, in Rock Island, Ill.
He graduated from Tipton High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed in shipping and receiving at Kartrig Pak, Davenport.
He was a Hawkeyes and Cubs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Patti Fonteyne and her husband, James, and Lori Foley and her husband, John, all of Tipton; two sons, Cecil Slach and his wife, Mary Ann, of Stanwood and Michael Ehlers and his wife, Cathie, of Kaukauna, Wis.; grandchildren, Matthew and Lindsey Fonteyne, Katie and Kelly Foley, Courtney Slach, Craig Anderson, Joshua and Ashley Ehlers; a great-grandchild, Corinne Elizabeth Fonteyne; two sisters, Venita Rorick and Jeanette Matthews; and two brothers, Kenneth and Merlin Ehlers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Harriet Regina Repenn; a daughter, Rhonda Hawk; and a brother, Arthur Ehlers.
TIPTON, Iowa -- Kenneth H. Ehlers, 78, Tipton, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Lutheran Homes, Muscatine, after a lingering illness.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. Barbra Keiper will officiate. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Peace Church of Christ United, Bennett, and Pathways, Iowa City.
Mr. Ehlers was born Nov. 2, 1925, in Clarence, the son of Albert and Lena Meyer Ehlers. He married Maxine S. Schult Aug. 2, 1947, in Davenport.
He received his education from Clarence Schools.
He was a farmer for 44 years and a commercial spray painter for 15 years.
He was a member of Peace Church of Christ United, Bennett.
Survivors include his wife of Tipton; two daughters, Elaine Taylor and husband Doug of Cedar Rapids and Deanna VandenBerghe of Olathe, Kan.; three sons, Ronald Ehlers and wife Iola and Rick Ehlers and wife Darlene, all of Tipton, and Randall Ehlers and wife Kim of Bennett; grandchildren, Dawn, Gregory, Julie, Melissa, Nicholas, Nathan and Seth; great-grandchildren, Gretta, Jacob, Colton, Alison, Ethan, Lake and Julianna; two sisters, Venita Rorick of Bennett and Jeanette Matthews and husband Sam of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a brother, Merlin Ehlers and wife Gwen of Sturgis, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur and Robert.
