There are over 50 Ehlke entries found in the index "Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" covering 1844-1950. For instance there are family death notices published for an August Ehlke (1911) and a Bertha (née Braatz, 1918 & 1942).

Look-ups from the index are available via email, or the index can be browsed at the Salzmann Library, in St. Francis.

1. Anna Ehlke born 1858 in Young Hickory/Jackson, Washington, WI to Charles and Augusta
2. Anna Ehlke born Apr 1865 in Germany/Pomerania to Friederich and Ernestine Schossen Ehlke, married William Engelking?
3. Anna Ehlke born 1885 in Pomerania to August and Augusta/Wilhelmina, emigrated to US on Apr 14, 1891 to Milwaukee
4. Anna E. Ehlke born August 21 1883 in Milwaukee, parents unknown
5. Anna H. Ehlke born Nov 24 1887 in Milwaukee to Julius and Bertha.

Thank you for your email so long ago now. I so appreciate the info you shared with me. I am not sure where you fit into the tree however so will not try to guess and make an error. I have been doing research on the Pattis family and its branches. Pattis was Matilda's maiden name and my grandmother Ida was her oldest sister. Thus her children were my dad's cousins so we got together with that side of the family occasionally. I remember Matilda well as she and Hattie the youngest sister lived close together and I was at Hattie's more frequently so was there several times when the two sisters were visiting. I have some history of that generation when they came to the US etc. and quite a bit for Hattie's Annie and of course Ida. I am always thrilled to connect with more of the family because I am missing many current pieces. Any info you have about Tillie's family I would love to have and would be glad tos hare what I have gathered of the rest. My parents have both died and I have lived in the Seattle area for over 40 years so don't really have opportunity to meet people in person. Thank so much for your response. Marilyn

I came across your message yesterday. I went to High School with you dad at Fort Vancouver High School we graduated together. I have been trying to update and gather info for the Pattis family-Tillie's maiden name. Tillie was Elmer's mother. I remember her well from when I was a child visiting Hattie-her sister-in Vancouver and at the few family reunions we had. My mom-Mabel and dad Herman Beise-went to Butch's wedding if I remember right. I would love to have more complete info on your family. I only have Ron, not who he married and you and your married name plus your two children's names. Iw ould love to have additional information you might have. I have quite a few names from your branch but no specifics and quite a few holes.
I have a picture of your gr grandmother with her 4 sisters if you would like that. Also of her aunt Wilehlminia Beise. Seems first cousins married my grandfather Ida Pattis Beise and August Beise so his mother was also Ida and Tilli's aunt. So glad you wrote. Any chance you can help me identify the other people not named in the photo? Your Great Grandfather, Herman and my Great Grandfather August were brothers. In 1900 the lived next to each other on Cleveland Street in Detroit. He was also a brewmeister at Klings Brewery on Jefferson. Could you tell me the name of the Bakery your Grandfather owned? I would be interested in learing more if you are willing to share.

Just clicked onto this and started looking. Gustave is my Grandfather and Hugo is my great uncle. We are from Detroit. They owned a bakery there. Hugo was a bus driver.

Elmer is Ronald Ehlke`s dad and matilda was Elmer`s mon--------you are right. Elmer , harold, mildred are still alive in vancouver--------georges passed away and i think Alfred did too

Hi, I have a feeling we are related. Did your family once live in Vancouver Washington. My dad had a cousin named Elmer Ehlke. My dad was Herman Beise and if we are related Elmer's mother would have been Matilda Ehlke. Her oldest sister was Ida who was my grandmother. Is any of this part of your family?
Did your dad go to Fort Vancouver high school by any chance? There was a Ron Ehlke that was in my class at Fort Vancouver. Nice guy in high school. Fun to see if this all connects. Thanks Marilyn

Found your picture with notations of Gustave, Agnes, and Hugo. They are all siblings and Herman is their father. Herman is my G Grandfather. He was a brewmeister at Klings Brewery in Detroit. Anna's maiden name was Schroeder and did she have a middle initial of W.? Herman's brother was August. As my mother (Gustave's daughter) often spoke of Uncle August.

Would love to see more pictures as they are indeed precious to me and family!

Hoping this attached photo will look familiar to someone. This is a 50th wedding anniversary snap of Herman and Anna Ehlke taken in Detroit, Michigan in 1938. I have identified those people who I know. My Great Grandfather is August Ehlke, and my Grandfather is John Stasiak. The other "family members" might be some of Herman and Anna's children. Try looking at the social security death index. If you are able to find a match, send away for a copy of his application. It's pretty inexpensive. Most times it lists the name of the father and the mother as well as where he was living at the time of the application. Good luck.
