Hi Ruth,

Its been some years since you posted this but many of the members of the Ehmer family were buried in St. Michael's Cemetery. Have you had any luck? Would like to compare notes.

I'm surprised I just saw this, ... I am a distance cousin of yours.

If I understand it right, Christian had a brother named Jacob who would be my Great-Great-Great grandfather.

I just started working on my family tree and found a lot of the heavy lifting was already done by by people working on other branches that intersected with the Ehmer line.

I would love to hear more about your family. This posted added a lot of info I was not aware of. BTW, I live close to Negundo Ave in Flushing/Fresh Meadows. :)

Thank you, John. My grandfather's name was Louis Schmidt (same name as his father's) from New York City (Manhattan, Clason Point in the Bronx).
His half-brother was Frank Albers. (Their mother was Anna Albers, a widow, who later became Anna Schmidt when she married my great grandfather, Louis Schmidt. Both Anna Schmidt and Louis Schmidt were from Germany. Anna was from Bavaria and Louis was from Baden. Frank Albers married your ancestor, Minnie Ehmer. Did your great aunts and uncles ever meet Frank Albers, Sr. or Frank Albers, Jr.?

My husband is John Reeves, born in Massilon, oh. Grandson of Mary (Ehmer) Reeves. He is looking for relatives. Mary was one of two Ehmer childred born in us, the rest of the family emigrated from Germany. We are just starting our research to find members of his family.

Your late son's father, Leo Ehmer (didn't know his first name was George, but that was his dad's name, so it stands to reason), was a neighbor of mine in Rochester, Washington, in the late '50's and early 60's. He was a good guy, and I often wondered what happened to him. From Google, he apparently was in the Marine Corp from '66 (when he would have graduated from high school) to '70, and now is in eastern Oregon (Irrigon or Pendleton area). He did indeed have many siblings- (from eldest down) Betty, Sherry, Leo, Hank, Cindy, (a girl whose name I don't recall), and Andy. His folks used to work for my dad on our dairy farm from time to time- his dad was a good-hearted guy who probably didn't have an easy time providing for the large family. His mom could be a bit of a pill, especially with those of her children who were not her "favorites" (Leo was one of her non-favorites).

Might try to look Leo up when I'm in eastern Oregon.

I have you in my family tree as Gaylene. Your son's grandfather was my half-brother. He was 24 years older than me and I only met him once when I was 7 at our grandmother's funeral.

my sons name was george lewis ehmer II that was the same name as his grandfather i found out. georges fathers name was george leo ehmer. the lived in or and his father had many sisters and brothers. i do not know any of them but i rember there was a brother named hank and or andy.

My father,Raymond was youngest of the Ehmer boys. His brothers were Walter, Harry, Jack, Henry and Robbie. His younger sisters were Muriel and Madeline. They grew up in Flushing NY on the corner of Burling and Negundo. Their parents were Henry J. and Mathilda (Gunzer)Ehmer (Walter and Harry's birth Mother was Anna, Henry J.s first wife who died at an early age). Henry J.'s parents were Christian and Fredrica (Mularrd) Ehmer of New York City NY. their birthplace was Germany. Henry J. was a twin his brother died two days after birth the twin was Christian and Fredrica's 10th child. I believe Henry had sisters who married Kemps and Connors and Mathilda had a sister named Dora. If anyone knows more please add a post.

I did some investigating to see if there was any link with my family but couldn't find any. My gg grandfather came directly to Butler County, Pennsylvania from Saxony in Germany in 1857. Most of the other Ehmers that I have come in contact with came to New York City much later. There is one big family that settled in Luzerne County near Philadelphia.

I'm an Ehmer too. My Father Richard Ehmer grew up in Philadelphia area. Father Mother was William Ehmer and Clara. 4 children. William Ehmer had a few Brothers, I recall the grandparents came from Germany, and then came to New york, and then settled in Philadelphia. Would like to know more and get more information.

Adele Ehmer born 1900, died 5-6-1901
Christian Ehmer born 1890, died 10-10-1915
Another Jacob Ehmer, born 1889, died 11-15-1922;
Annie Buckwald born 1851, died 2-16-1891
Frank Buckwald born 1875, died 11-17-1930
All are from the New York area and buried in St. Michael's Cemetery.

I came across your info when I was first researching the Ehmers. In fact, I have talked to a few of the Luzerne Ehmers on the phone and can't find any connection. All of mine seem to have stayed in Butler County, PA.

I have come across a John Ehmer bc 1890 in Hazelton, Luscerne Co., PA. His parents, Adam and Christina, moved to Brooklyn sometime before 1910. Known siblings were Emma and Alvina. Married Francis Smith in 1913. I am looking for information on John's wife and children.

The only thing that I can tell you is that they lived in Luzerne County near Philadelphia. Try looking in rootsweb.com; you should be able to find lot's of info there.

I am leaving for Pennsylvania tomorrow morning for a month so will not be checking this board very often.

All of my Ehmer's stayed in Western Pennsylvania (Butler County) or moved into Ohio (Belmont County or Stark County).

There was another Ehmer family near Philadelphia that might have had relatives in New York.

Looking for information on Eileen Dolan Ehmer. She was the daughter of William Dolan, (1889-1959) and Adeline Laflamme, (1899-1991). She was born about 1920 in Illinois, possible in Cook County, Illinois or Kankakee County, Illinois.
Eileen possible married a William Ehmer. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My Ehmers came to Pennsylvania in 1857. From there, they spread to Ohio and Michigan. I have no knowledge of any of mine that went to Wisconsin.

I recently discovered my ggg grandmother's maiden name was EHMER. Philip and Henrietta (EHMER) Nensel emigrated to Brooklyn in 1866. The 1880 census shows she was from Baden and was born in 1835. Beyond that I know very little. If anyone has any information about her I would greatly appreciate it.

My ggg grandmother was Henrietta Ehmer. She was born in 1835. I don't know where,but her son Berthold was born in a town called Dernbach I believe. She married Philip Nensel in the early 1860's and emigrated to Brooklyn in 1866. Do you have any idea where they may have come from or where Dernbach is?

Have you run across a reference to Susanne Louisa Ehmer from New York City? Her marriage to an Ehmer would be her second. She was first married to William Burge. She left a will dated 1906, but no mention of her husband's first name.

From what I can tell, there were at least three original lines of the Ehmer family in this country:

1. New York City

2. Luzerne County in Pennsylvania

3. Butler County in Pennsylvania (Mine)

I have been unable to find a link between these threee branches.

I had an uncle by the name of John Ehmer, who married my aunt, by the name of Louise Schine. They had children, Walter, Edna, Florence, Helen, Peggy, John, Jr. etc. Any info you can give me along those lines would be greatly appreciated. John's death was supposed to be 4-23-1932 and Louise's death was 11-16-1953. All of them are from New York.
