Yes. George Frederick's father was Augustus Clemens Ehrenfeld and my great great great great grandfather. My Grandfather was the last Ehrenfeld on our tree branch. George Frederick was his Great Great-Uncle.
Margo

Since Heilbronn is near a little town called Kochersteinsfeld and since the Ehrenfeld name is not very common, I'm thinking this Dr. Augustus Ehrenfeld is related to my Kochersteinsfeld line. Do you have any documents that trace back further than Augustus's father, George Friedrich?

I am not sure. The information I have is that from verbal history from a long-passed away ggrandmother that (at least my branch) the family came from a location along the Rhine. I've also been told that the family came from around either Hamburg or Hanover. I am not sure where Heilbronn or Kochersteinsfeld is. Although I lived in the UK for 10 years, I was never able to make it over for any length of time to research.

I certainly would be interested in what you find out. I am away from home right now; when I get back, I'll dig into my documents and see if I can get any clues.

Thanks

Anna Ehrenfeld Williamson

The history of Dr. Augustus Ehrenfeld, mentioned above, says he was from Heilbronn, Germany. I just visited Kochersteinsfeld, Germany, a small town 20-30 minutes north of Heilbronn, and discovered several generations of Ehrenfelds going back to the 1600's. I didn't have time to trace forward into the 1800's yet, but I wonder if this could be the same family. Does anyone know of a Kochersteinsfeld link?

Thank you for replying. I completely forgot about posting that comment! I know my great grandfather didn't perish in the holocaust. He escaped with his son Peter(my granfather), his second wife and stepson from Austria to Australia. They had the surname Ehrenfeld but changed it in Australia during the war to Edward-Paul. Paul was my great grandfather's name. I'm pretty sure they had relatives in Poland but all of them perished in concentration camps during the war. The only living relatives that we know of live in Israel. That's all I know! I think I just got excited when I saw the same last name and I posted that when I was 14. Thanks anyway.

Dear Alyssa,

I just now read your post from September 2004 regarding your great-grandfather. Paul/Pal Ehrenfeld and Maria Shwartz were married to each other only. They were Hungarian Jews from Budapest, and they were murdered in the Holocaust.

You might try this website: yadvashem.org

Run your names through their database search. See what you find in the multi-million name database. I bet you find your relatives if they perished in the Holocaust.

Sorry that the connection of names did not work between us.

Carolyn Hacker
Yesterday my husband and I visited the gravesite of his grandfather, Arthur Sherman Bubble (1906-1986) in Ormond Beach Florida. He is placed next to Evelyn M. Ehrenfeld (d. 1976). According to the cemetery the burial sites belonged to Evelyn's husband William and he ok'd Sherman to be buried there as they were related. On Sherman's death certificate the person giving the information was his neice, Peg Ehrenfeld. Sherman was born in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne Co., PA and had lived in Florida 1968.
Does anyone know these Ehrenfeld's? Thanks Jeanne

I am not researching this line, but there is an extensive biography of the first Ehrenfeld to come to Mifflin county in "The History of the Susquehanna and Juniata Valleys" - page 475, published in 1886.

some of the tidbits: Augustus Clemens Ehrenfeld was born May 16, 1774 at Heilbron, Wurtemberg, Germany and graduated school in Heidelberg, Germany, after which he lived in Geneva, Switzerland fro at least 2 years (1798 & 1799). He was a volunteer surgeon during Napoleon's Italian campaign. He came to this country in 1805, landing at Philadelphia on August 5, 1805. He practiced medicine in Philadelphia, then Lebanon County( with Dr. Essig of Fredericksburg(Stumpstown) where he met and married Charlotte Catharine Stitzer (marriage date of January 5, 1808). They returned to Philadelphia and lived with his father, who died in Philadelphia in November of 1809. He continued to practice medicine in Phila until Nov, 1811 when he moved to Lebanon County, then to Selinsgrove in Union County, then to Mifflinburg in 1817, then to Adamsburg in 1822. In 1830 he moved, with his family, into the east end of Kishacoquillas Valley in Mifflin County. He died Jan 23, 1839 in his 65th year of age and is buried in the Lutheran burialground at Old Salem Church in Armagh township, where his widow was laid beside him in 1868.

Hope all this helps.

mother-in-law and Ehrenfeld

My mother-in-law, Klara/i Ehrenfeld Reichman, was born in Hungary, concentration camp survivor, died in Israel in 1979. Her siblings, both named Joseph, were nicknamed Lotsi and Farike, also both concentation camp survivors, both born in Hungary (?), both still living. Her father was Paul Ehrenfeld, murdered in the Holocaust. My first husband, Abraham, is her second (and last) child, and father of my daughter. Please contact me if you are related. Thank you very much for reading this message. Sincerely, Carolyn Hacker

Hello

Hello

My name is Ann Ehrenfeld Williamson, and I live near Abilene, Texas. I am researching the Ehrenfeld family line which came from Mifflin County, PA. My GGF was Jesse Vernon Ehrenfeld, my Father is Jesse Alexander Ehrenfeld. I started working on this a few years ago, put it down, and have picked it back up. I do know the first Ehrenfeld in my line arrived in Philadelphia in either 1804 or 1824. I am in the process of working from that direction. I happen to have a brother named Gary as well, he is in the US Navy. I am the eldest of six, three girls and three boys. I also have a brother who is in the US Army.

I spent 20 years in the USAF and actually worked with another Ehrenfeld while active duty. He came from the Pittsburgh area, and we believe we are related in some way, since most of my GGF brothers moved there. He was one oc six brothers in the AF.

I haven't found that many people researching the Ehrenfeld line, perhaps the three of us may be able to help each other out.

Ann
