My GF is Herman Eichel and was born in Detroit. His father Frederic Eichel, wife Louise Buchholtz Eichel and older children came to Detroit in 1885 from West Prussia. They lived in German community around Livervois Street in Detroit until late 1930's-40's. I think he had a brother/cousin named William who lived on same streets as they did. Would love to know if we are related somehow. Please let me know if you would like to correspond.

Hi!

I am descended from a John Eichel and Mary Boutillier of Nova Scotia, Canada. John was probably one of the German Soldiers brought over to fight on behalf of Britain around the beginning of the 1800s. He ended up in Nova Scotia.

I don't have tons of information about him prior to that.

However, I do have in my hot little hands a rather complete paper copy of this family and many of its lines from 1785 to around 1942.

It will probably take me quite some time to get it all off paper - but if someone ends up on here looking for an Eichel or Oickle/Oicle of Nova Scotia, drop me a line. There is an excellent chance that I have something for you.

These are the two pages that include the EICHEL's in birth records from the village of Schweigen. A map of the area is included. Enjoy and I hope this helps someone!

stevedahl@bellsouth.net

I HAVE ATTACHED THE SCANNED IMAGES OF THE TRANSCRIPTIONS OF THE EICHEL'S

There are 5 files attached that include transcriptions of the Eichel's from the original churchbook of the village of Rechtenbach. The next posting includes those entries from the village of Schweigen. These two villages are so close together that the village name is now Schweigen-Rechtenbach. Schweigen-Rechtenbach is only a stones throw from the current Alsace France border town of Wissembourg (german spelling) or Weissenburg (french spelling). The next posting will also include a map highlighting the towns which are within a mile of my ancestral village of Oberotterbach.
I named the files with the village first, Eichel second and what the records include (births, marriages, etc.) third. Good luck and happy hunting!
Steve Dahl

They settled in Manhattan and Bronx, New York and had 3 more children. Frederick, Eliza, Mary were all born in 1840's.

All I know is that Frank was a milkman, and that in 1900 the family was still in New York. There is Alvin Eichel, (great-grandfather,) Melvin Eichel, Stanley, Howard, Harvey, (his sons,) Jerry and William, (sons of Melvin) of the males. I do not know much about the family, except for these three generations and I am not sure where they may have originally come from. All but William are dead, so no one to talk to about past family history. I was married to Jerry.
