Just found your site.
Looking for relations of Elizabeth Eichenberger, born 02 March 1844 in Arganland, Switzerland, came to Canada and Married William Swift 04 Dec 1866 in Middlesex county, Ontario. Elizabeth we have is the daughter of Jacob Eichenberger and Sarah Meltz (as shown on their marriage record - do not have original). Our family writings indicate that Elizabeth had a brother, Samuel, born about 1835 in Germany and died 24 May 1890 in Delaware, Middlesex County, Ontario. Elizabeth and William are my great-grandparents and I would be interested in any information you might have regarding this family.
Louise

Hi Lynn,
We spoke awhile ago concerning Henry Eichenberger and a family picture of yours that appeared in the Tulsa Tribune in 1950/51. It is very curious that my greatgrandmother, Nannie Jones Eichenberger, the wife of George D, according to the 1930 US census lived here in Tulsa with her son, William and wife, Nell. This was something that I didn't know. My Uncle Bruce came to Tulsa from Missouri in the late 1920's/early 1930's and my father came shortly afterwards. I never could figure out why they both came to Tulsa, could have been because of the Eichenberger family. I do not have a date of death for Nannie Eichenberger as of yet or that of William and his wife Nell. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?????

If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. I am trying to get down to the main library in downtown to check out the city directories, the genealogy library only has a few. My dad never talked about having Eichenberger relatives here in Tulsa.

Linda DeWitt Hughey

I'm not positive this will be of assistance, but it is very probable that your g-grandfather Hatto is the son of Hatto Adolf Eichenberger (christened 1 Apr 1846, Reinach, Aargau, Switzerland; married 13 Jan 1891, Chase, Lake Co., MI to Eleanor/Ellen Luce Lodosco; died 1921}. He is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery in Chase, Lake County, MI.

His parents were Samuel Eichenberger (born @ 1800, Saxony, Germany; died before 1855 in Switzerland) and Elizabeth Merz (born @ 1812, Switzerland; died 2 Dec. 1898, Delaware township, Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada). They were married @ 1827 and had 10 children, all born in Switzerland. After Samuel's death, the family immigrated to Ontario Canada.

Their daughter, Mary (my g-g-grandmother) married Samuel Linderman and moved to Michigan @ 1864. They moved back and forth between Mecosta county, Lake county and Newaygo county. The 1884 state census has them in Newaygo county. Hatto, her brother, shows up in several censuses living near them.

Hope this helps.

Hello, my 2x greatgrandparents were Henry and Lucinda Eichenberger thru their son, George. George married Nannie Jones and they had four children, one that died in as an infant and then there was Rufus Neal, Jack and my grandmother, Nannie Kaye (Coy) Eichenberger. Nannie Kaye died in 1919 when my father was only 2. I have been slowly by surely gathering information on the Eichenbergers over the years. George died in 1910 in San Diego and his wife, Nannie Jones Eichenberger died after 1930. I found her in the 1930 census living with one of her sons in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Would love to see what you have on the Eichenbergers and you are more than welcome to use what little I have out there.

My personal email is: okcowgirl52@hotmail.com

Linda DeWitt Hughey

Henry Eichenberger born circa 1810 in Germany

Again I am shaking the Eichenberger Family tree. I have been trying to find the ship that Henry Eichenberger came to America on circa 1825. I have been on the Ships Passenger list site and came up with nothing. I have checked out the ports of entry and ports of departure around the time he came to America, give or take five years. Could he have stowed away? Could he have arrived with other relatives, not his parents? His wife's name was Lucinda Obar. His great granddaughter, Nannie Coye Eichenberger DeWitt of Ozark, AR was my grandmother. She died in 1919 in Billings, MO after giving birth to a daughter, Coye. My father was only two at the time, his name is William Drew DeWitt. Any takers? My thanks in advance.

Linda DeWitt Hughey

With the help of a lovely lady by the name of Marna Clemons in San Diego, I have found out about the final days of my greatgrandfather, George D Eichenberger. I have always wondered why my great grandfather was listed in the Eichenberger Family Bible as being buried in San Diego. Why California, when he was born and raised in Ozark, Arkansas? And his family was still in Ozark? Well, this great lady went to the Court House and looked up his Death Certificate for me, listing a son as the informant. I had posted all over for information on the Eichenberger family and with the death certificate and the information there, I found George, wife, Nannie, son, William and another son, Neil and his wife, Louise.
Re: Frederick Eichenberger family

Hello Dan,

Just in case your email has changed in the last couple years...

I have a letter to a Notary Public in Holmes County Ohio
from the Swiss Consulate in New York City acknowledging the reciept of a Power of Attorney being mailed to Switzerland to Johann Eichenberger. (at least I think that's what it is...me only speak english unfortunately)

I checked the 1880 Census in Holmes county and found Frederick and His wife Susan. I feel pretty confident with your latest post that these are your GGG Grandparents. The legal documents being sent to Switzerland to Johann, sort of suggest another link for you to follow.
So, like I said, if you are interested in this info...let me know. The letter is pretty cool...it's handwritten and signed by the Consul General, Phillipe de Luze....although I can't read it....But then, I can't read half of his letters that are in English either....He needed some penmanship training

Regards
John Hart
Cleveland

Re: Henry Eichenberger born circa 1810 in Germany

I, too, am looking for information about Henry Eichenberger, as he was my great-great-great-grandfather. I have a little bit of information about his wife, Lucinda Obar, and her father, Paul Obar, but it's sketchy and unverified.
I also have a five-generation picture of myself, my mother (Gloria Jane Vesper Edwards), my grandmother (Beatrice Jane Protheroe Vesper), my great-grandmother (Lillie Rich Eichenberger Protheroe) and my great-great-grandmother (Flora Paine Eichenberger) that appeared in the Tulsa Tribune in 1950 or 1951. Flora was married to Richard E. Eichenberger, George's brother and Henry's son.
When I Googled "Henry Eichenberger" I found this tidbit on the web:
"According to all sources that have been located so far, Henry came to America about 1825 when he was 15 years old. His port of entry into the U.S., whether he arrived alone, or with parents and siblings, are all yet to be determined, as is Henry's initial place of residence in this country. One clue that leads one to believe he arrived with his parents can be found in a biographical sketch of one of his sons which states that Henry, "when fifteen years old came to America, being reared and educated in Arkansas". But when, how, and why he found his way to the country's mid-section is not yet known.
"Henry's first known place of residence was in Lower Township, Franklin County, Arkansas where he is listed in the 1850 federal census as a grocer, aged 39, and born in Germany [between 1810 and 1812]. By this time he was married and he and his wife, Lucinda, were the parents of five children ranging in age from two months to eleven years. Henry reportedly assisted in laying out the town of Ozark, Arkansas, and served several terms as county treasurer. All the while his family continued to grow until his children numbered at least seven."
Robert E. and his brother, James J. Eichenberger, are buried in side-by-side family plots in Highland Cemetery in Ozark, Arkansas.
Lynn Edwards Terashita

Frederick Eichenberger family

I have gotten hold of the Eichenberger Family Bible since my last message. Frederick Ulrich Eichenberger and his wife Susanna Gammeter Eichenberger settled in Holmes County, Ohio in the 1850's. They had 5 sons. They were Gottfried(Godfrey) ,Rudolph, Adolph, John, and my Great Grandfather Frederick Gottlieb Eichenberger. Frederick moved to Indiana and married Sarah Burghalter. Adolph never married in and is buried in Indiana. Rudolph moved out west. John and Godfrey remained in Ohio. Godfrey married Ellen Sheehan in Homeworth, Ohio. They had 6 children. Their names were Harry, Floyd, Emma, Charles, Susan, and John. Godfrey's brother John married Theona Pehen in Tuscarawas, Ohio. He ran a harness store in Dayton, Ohio. They had at least 2 children Helen and Ralph. If anyone has any information on these people, please contact me. I am more than willing to share my information with them. danielson27@alltel.net.

Thankyou

Laura May (SHEARER) MISERE whose mother-in-law was an EICHENBERGER

Hello,

I'm trying to find out more about Laura May (SHEARER) MISERE, her husband Jacob and children Eva and Harold.

Laura May was born in Burton City, Baughman Twp., Wayne Co., OH on Mar 22, 1881 to William SHEARER and Mary Ellen GETZ. Laura married Jacob MISERE, born about 1875 in Burton City, OH to Mathias MISERE and Rosa EICHENBERGER, on 21 Mar 1901 in Wayne, OH. She, Jacob, and their two children, Harold and Eva, appear in the 1910 Belmont Co., OH census living in Union Twp. on Lafferty Rd.. Eva was born in Wayne Co., OH on 30 Jan 1902. Her brother Harold MISERE was born 21 Aug 1909 in OH.

By the 1920 census, Jacob appears but Laura is no longer his wife. He is married by 1920 to Grace and living at 1425 Greenfield SW, Canton, Stark Co., OH. Neither of his children with Laura are living in the household. Harold MISERE would only be about 11 years old by 1920. Eva would be 18 years old. I know from her grandparents' estate packet that Eva Misere married a GOODYEAR. Harold died March 1985 in the San Diego, CA area per the Social Security Death Index.

By 24 Oct 1938, Laura is not mentioned in her mother's obituary as surviving her-only Laura's four brothers are mentioned as surviving.

Perhaps Laura remarried and died with a different surname. I'm hoping that a surviving descendant sees this query and contacts me with information on what happened to Laura and her descendants.

Thank-you.

Sincerely,

Yvonne Delamater
