My Uncle was Condon G. Eichorn, my father was George F Eichorn, Jr. We were raised in Allentown, PA. My cousins are Barbara and Janet, daughters to Condon or 'Uncle Con' as we called him. My father died in 1989 and that was the last time we had contact with Uncle Con. I would love to know where my cousins are today. Perhaps you are one of their daughters? My grandmother was Janet May Eichorn.

Lynn,

Thank you so much for all of the info. I haven't been to Broadbay, ME, but I went to PEI for the first time last year. Loved it, just like I've heard everyone say about it! I met
several cousins and saw my grandmother's homestead and
my husband's gr.grandparents' home as well. My husband and I are both descended from the Eichorns/ Acorns as well
as the Jenkins (Henckells); I just found that out, too! I live in
Rhode Island, USA. How about you? Are we allowed to ex-
change email addresses on this site? I know what you mean
about getting away from the genealogy research - it's so time
consuming because it's so interesting! I would love to try to
trace the possible Penobscot connection. I've run into the same situation here with another line of my family, in Connect-
icut - rumors of possible Mohegan/Pequot/southeastern Conn. tribe. How would there be a native connection with Catherine Bane Reid if she was bon in Germany?
Lynn Q

I have not been working on genealogy for some time but have gone back and looked at my files. It appears that Matthias and his sister, Mary Magdalena Eichorn, married siblings. Mary Magdalene married Johan Georg Reed ( also spelled Reid) in Germany. When they emigrated, Mattheus was married to Anna Maria Dorsch but she must have died because Mattheus married Catherine about 1750. I think the native was Mattheus Jr.'s wife - and the mother of Johan aka John who later moved to PEI and became John Acorn.

I visited Waldoboro enroute to PEI several years ago - there is a beautiful Moravian church there and an old cemetery. There are also still lots of Eichorn descendants whose names are either Eichorn or in many cases Achorn.

Lynn

Dear Lynn Griffiths,
I was so happy to get your response to my query of Matthias
Eichorn and descendants. I heard of another story that one
of the Eichorn men was killed by Indians; maybe Matthias
who was married to Catherine Bane? Where does her last
name "Reed" come from - was she previously married? I'd
love to talk with you more about this, and compare more of our
notes. Please keep in touch!
Lynn Quillen

John: You are my great uncle! My father George was the minister who worked for Muhlenberg. I grew up in Allentown PA. I didn't know that my Uncle Con had died. I really would like to speak to you. I've been dying to know of my ancestry on the Eichorn side, since I bear the name am the oldest male in my generation on that side. My brother Christian is also an ordained Lutheran minister in Allentown. Could I call you or vice versa? My home number is 925-377-9114. This is VERY exciting.

I was exploring my last name on the web and came across this intriguing message.
I had an uncle named George Eichorn. He was the father of George and Condon. Condon at one time did live in Fair Lawn, NJ, as did I. George was an ordained minister and active in fund raising for Muhlenberg University. I don't know what Condon did for a living. Both, however, are deceased. Send me an e-mail; perhaps we're related!

I am a descendant of the Eichorn/Acorns. Matthias was married to Catherine Bane. I can't locate their birth/death
dates at the moment, but they were both born in Germany.
John, their son, was born in 1761 in Broad Bay, Waldoboro,
Maine. He married Eleanor Williams, daughter of Frederick Williams and Eleanor Hunt. She was born about 1771 in Nova Scotia. John died June 19, 1857. Both died in Pownal,
PEI and are buried at Pownal Methodist Church Cemetery.
As I said, I have more info but I can't find it right now. I heard
that Catherine Bane may have been native American, but I
saw other info that stated she was German.

Michelle,
I just read your message. I've been searching for Margaret Catherine "Brave", mother of John Acorn, spouse (?) of
Matthias (Eichorn) Acorn. No wonder I can't find anything!
Word is that she may be native American, poss. Penebscot.
From what I've read, "Eichorn" was changed to "Acorn" by
many of our ancestors, especially on Prince Edward Island,
Canada, where "Acorn" is used exlcusively.

I too am descended from Matthias. The information I have is that Matthias Sr emigrated from Germany to BroadBay in 1740 timeframe and that at least three children also came from Germany. They are as follows

Mary Magdalena ( 1712, Germany, DOD unknown, died In Maine)
she married Johan Georg Reed from Langensteinbach.

Matthias ( est dates 1709 - 1777) born in Gobrichen, Germany
married to Anna Maria Dorsch first and then later to Catherine Bane Reed who was rumored to be a Penobscot Indian

Jacob Eichorn

Matthias and Catherine were parents to Johan Eichorn who was raised by his grandparents ( Matthias SR) after his father was drowned. As a young man Johan joined a Loyalist brigade of the King's Rangers. His group left Maine for Prince Edward Island where they were disbanded and given land grants from the British crown. Although he is initially listed as John Eacorn his name was soon anglicized to John Acorn.

It has been some time since I worked on my family history and there may well be errors in the above. I would be pleased to share any other information I have.

My father and grandfather were both George Francis Eichorn. My grandfather died before I was born, but I know he lived in NYC and was a violinist for the MET (at least that what my father boasted). He was probably born around 1900. We never spoke of that side of the family, so I know very little of my father's side. My father has a brother named Condon Gurnee Eichorn, and he has 2 daughters, Barbara and Janet (my first cousins). I know my uncle is still alive and in Fairlawn NJ. I have no idea were my cousins are. We have not spoken to them in over 30 years. I'd like to find them.
