Hi Julie, Not sure if you still look at this site but I have just come across your post. We believe my husband is related to the Eighteens of Hadleigh via his grandfather William Eighteen and his father who we also believe is a William Eighteen. We visited Hadleigh this summer and found a memorial to an Eighteen who died in the First World War in the local church and that the Eighteens were living at the far end of the town about the 1900s to 1910s. We live in Woodley near Reading in Berkshire and it appears to be William Eighteen senior who moved here but we do not know why. It wasn't a gradual move via London or another town but directly from Hadleigh to Reading, very mysterious.
