The EIGHTEEN family of Hadleigh, Suffolk, UK

Surnames: EIGHTEEN, FILGATE, AITON, AYTON
Hi there
I am trying to trace the family connection to this town back beyond the 18th century. The current sticking point is the parentage of Robert EIGHTEEN who married Susannah FILGATE in 1798. Robert's likely parents are not so helpful described as John and Mary EIGHTEEN, and Mary's maiden name is not known. Has anyone else got any further back or any clues, thoughts etc. Potentially the family, if related to the AITON and AYTONs recorded at Hadleigh, are recorded as living in the Hadleigh area for over 400 years. It is only Robert's parents that hold the process up - cinch really!?!
