Searching for information regarding Catherine EIS born in the early 1800's. She is thought to have immigrated with her husband, Joseph RUSLER (ROSSELER), from Metz, Alsace-Lorraine in 1837, and settled in Licking County, OH. On later census records, however, Joseph stated that he was born in Baden, Germany. Did they, perhaps, migrate from Germany to Alsace-Lorraine for political reasons and, from there, immigrate to America? In Perry County, OH, there lived Adam, Joseph and Katharine EIS who followed a similar immigration pattern. Were they siblings of Catherine EIS? Catherine seemed to be a baptismal name in the Perry County EIS families.
