He was in the 1900 Montpelier Township, Muscatine County Census as follows;
Samuel 23 born Oct. 1876 in IA and both parents born Germany, Harriett 20 born Oct. 1879 in IA, John father 52 wd. born Germany and both parents born Germany.

Lengthy Illness

Samuel T. Eis, 412 1/2 East Fifth street, retired fireman at the U. S. Biological station at Fairport, died at 9:25 p.m. Monday after an illness of three months.
Mr. Eis was born Oct. 28, 1878, in Sweetland township, the son of John and Elizabeth Goettger Eis, and had resided in Muscatine County practically all his life. He married Hattie Fridley on Feb. 23, 1898 at Davenport. Mr. Eis was a Spanish American war veteran, and a member of the Montpelier Methodist church.
Surviving are his wife and children, Mrs. Esther Mallonee of Ottumwa, Beulah Eis and Frank Eis of Muscatine, and George Eis of Fairport, beside the following brothers and sisters, Charles, Fred, and Frank of Muscatine; William of Montpelier; Ben of Valley Junction; Mrs. Louise Dietrich of Muscatine; and Mrs. Sarah Lowry of Davenport.
Funeral rites will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Fairbanks Home for Funerals, with burial in Greenwood cemetery.
The body will remain at the Fairbanks home. (Notes from June Brewer Welsch his mother maiden name was Goettge).
