Looking for info on Jacob S. EISENHART m. Elmira "Ella" LITZENBERGER *

I have found some evidence that LITZENBERGERs emigrated in 1847 from Lehigh Co, PA to Seneca Co, OH and that Jacob EISENHART probably emigrated with them (and many others). Both Elmira and Jacob were born in 1829. They married in 1850 (3 years after their move to PA). 1860 census shows Jacob and Ella EISENHART listed directly after (next door to) Solom. and Judith LITZENBERGER in Tiffin, Seneca, OH. This seems to suggest that Elmira "Ella" was a daughter of Solomon and Judith LITZENBERGER but, obviously, this is not proof.

It appears that Jacob emigrated with other families but the other EISENHARTs stayed behind. I don't know Jacob's parents and would appreciate any information about that. I have seen one suggestion that his parents were Benjamin and Catherine EISENHART and another suggestion that his parents were Andreas and Margaret Elizabeth (SHULER) EISENHART. Census data indicates that both Jacob's parents were born in PA.

I have also found a written history, "Ancestry of the John Franglin Eisenhart family" by Willis Wolf Eisenhart (pub. Abbotstown, PA, 1951) but have not been able to connect the dots to Jacob. There is a mention in this history of a Jacob S. (1834-1920) m. Ella Smith (1830-1912), son of Jacob Eisenhart and Elizabeth Schmucker) but I'm certain this is not the same Jacob S. (birth dates are wrong).

Any information about Jacob S. EISENHART (b.1829) and his parentage would be greate appreciated.

Regards,
Kevin Bowman
Michigan

Dr. Herman Andrew Eisenhart, of Manchester Township, was born January 25, 1843, and is a son of Dr. Adam and Leah (Forry) Eisenhart, natives of the same township, who had a family of eleven sons and three daughters, of whom our subject is the second son and fourth child. His grandfather, Dr. George Eisenhart, emigrated from Germany in the early history of our county, and located in the present limits of West Manchester. From him descended the numerous families of Eisenhart’s, most of whom reside in York County. The subject of this sketch was brought up on his father’s farm, at the same time attended the public schools. At the age of nineteen he began the study of medicine in the offices of his father, and at the age of twenty-nine, upon the death of his father, succeeded to the practice, which he still retains. August 19, 1864, he enlisted at York, in Company H, Two Hundreth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was honorably discharged with his regiment, May 30, 1865, at Alexandria, Va. He participated in the battle in front of Petersburg and the first and second attack on Fort Steadman. After the war he returned home and resumed his medical practice at his present home, three and a half miles north of York. He married Rebecca Hamme, a native of York County, October 14, 1866. They have eight children: Lillie Cora, William McCall, Harvey G., Adam, Kurvin C., Annie Kate, Herman A. and Howard Filmore. Dr. Eisenhart is a member of the Lutheran Church, is a Republican in politics, and served one term as school director. In addition to his medical practice the Doctor pursues farming, a part of his time, as a healthy recreation. His father died in 1872, aged sixty-two years, and his mother in 1882, at the same age.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

Emma C. Pfahler of PA.

C. A. Eisenhart, was born in York County in 1844. His early life was passed as an assistant upon his father’s farm until sixteen years of age, attending in the meantime the schools of his native county. Prior to his removal to Marshall, Mich., he was a teacher in the schools of West Manchester Township. A natural inclination for the profession of dentistry led him to become a student, and his close application and determined spirit enabled him to master it in all of its details. In 1860 he formed a co-partnership with Dr. Eggleston, which relationship was mutually beneficial, and the success of our subject farther advanced. Upon the dissolution of this firm Dr. Eisenhart returned to York, where he has since been in constant and continual practice. The success of Dr. Eisenhart has not been confined to the practical duties of his profession, but has extended into the field of invention. He made application for a patent upon a method for the application of electricity to supersede the use of anesthetics in extracting and filling teeth. This invention has been wonderfully successful, and has met with a large sale among the dental profession, and has extended the fame of Dr. Eisenhart, and placed him among the leading dentists of Pennsylvania. Dr. Eisenhart is a citizen of worth and progression in all matters of public advancements. He has been a school director seven years, and president of the board of education, and interested in the Safe and Lock Works, and is president of the Park :Loan & Building Association. December 5, 1872, he was united in wedlock with Miss. Emma C., daughter of Charles and Catherine (Weiser) Pfahler, and a native of York County. They have four children: William S., Luther P., Jacob C., and Harry W. The family are members of the Lutheran Church, of which Dr. Eisenhart has been a teacher in the Sabbath-school for over ten years.

Taken from the book, “History of York County, Illustrated 1886” by John Gibson, Historical Editor

My great great grandfather was married about three separate times. He was a German Officer born in 1822. He emigrated to the US and became a colonel in the Union Civil War.
From one account, his first wife was Marie Eisenhart, from another it was a Mina from Hanover, Germany. He had later married a widow after his first wife died. Perhaps named Amalie Carolina Linde.

Any info would be welcomed

My great great great grandparents were Michael and Rachel Eisenhart. My great great grandmother is their daughter Marie, born March 22, 1839. I haven't seen her listed on any of the geneology pages, and we are actually short of details such as the name of the man that she married, a date a place for her marriage, and the birth of her daughter Letitia, October 1864 (my grandmothers mother).

Does anyone from this line know who Marie Eisenhart married? This would be a big break for us. Thanks!

Professor J. Eisenhart, Elk county, Pa

I do not have a connection to the Eisenhart genealogy but I am compiling a booklet about former rural and early school teachers. Professor J. Eisenhart just prior to 1897 apparently was in charge of his own summer school in Johnsonburg, Pa but had to close it because of "imparied health." He was elected as the Principal of the Johsonburg borough schools. for the school term 1896-1897. The following school term his name does on appear as the Principal so apparently he either gave up his teaching career or moved out of Johnsonburg perhaps as a "career move." I would like to learn about the Professor's education, his teaching career and also find out what happened to him after he left Johnsonburg. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I have been searching for information on my husbands family. I have it going back to Simon A. Eisenhart b. June 13, 1838. I did receive some information about his immediate family (brothers, sisters). I have the names of his parents as Thomas Eisenhart and his mother as Hannah Kerchner. But I can't seem to find anything to varify that the information I have is correct. I have found a lot of info about Simon in the pension records for the Civil War, but otherwise it has been very difficult. Simon was married to Wihlemina Vanluvanee from Bucks Cty. I believe Simon's family were all from the Lehigh area. If anyone can help me find more infor or give suggestions as to were to go from here it would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have more info on the Christopher who actually was the very first Eisenhart that came to the States? His daughter Charity married Purdy. I'm looking for info on Christopher's parents who were Christopher and I believe Charity also. Any info on both would be great. Christopher landed in White Plains area of New York or some articles say Long Island. Found some ancestors relating back to him but can't find any info in the middle to late 1600's on his parents. I believe this was part of the Prussian line of Eisenhart's and various spellings. Also info for the early 1700's. I believe Christopher was sent here for the Queen Mother to keep an eye on what is brewing in the States. But have never found any list of who was sent. I know they sent many of their trustworthy people.

Tilghman L.A.Eisenhard or Eisenhart

I am looking for information on a Tilghman Eisenhard or t tht married an Annie Dietz on April 14,1900. Tilghman was born 9-16-1853. He is the son of Thomas & Susanna Yehl Eisenhard/t. This family had 3 children, Tilghman, Ellewisa never married, and my great grandfather George Washington Daniel Eisenhard/t. Any info on any of the above mentioned names would be greatly appreciated. Tilghman & Annie have a daughter listed that was 12 yrs. old by the name of Flossie. I have not found any other marriage dates for him so my belief is that this is Annie's child. Since Flossie was already 12 yrs. old in 1910, must be from a previous marriage. No last name is given for her.

Eisenhard(t)

Hi! I am an Eisenhard descendant. Since the name has about 100 different spellings, maybe some need to check the Eisenhard or Eisenhardt. A really good site to get some early basic info for anyone is http: //www.ironworks.westhost.com/brucee/eisen.htm
Since alot of the family members sometimes spelled their name with a d and then some spelled it with a t. It's a hard family to decipher info on because there is so much and alot of the family moved about. I am lucky that I got more recent history from family members who went to Germany to find the lineage. To everyones amazement---there are no Eisenhard or t or any of the other spellings left in Germany of this family. Maybe some distant family with different names but all the original spellings are lost. Check the history on the Kings, and Czars. Russian. With so many spellings, maybe there is something in the other spellings that you can pull from. I have a lot of info and there is more available. Visit the castle in Belzig on the computer, it is being restored. German spelling is with t and sometimes dt American spelling mostly t or d. Either side of this family is fascinating. Conradt was a descendant to Catharine the Great, brother and sister. Nobility was lost in the 1500's and restored in 1700's. Catharine the Great (Russian) married into nobility (once her family then married into it) she was stepmother to Napoleon Bonaparte. Great Reading material. Names such as Sophia Augusta Frederichica Anhalt-Zerbst or Princes Dorthea from Wuertemberg, also known as Maria Federovna. Sometimes in the lineage you find the d spelling with these names and sometimes the t spelling. Simply Fascinating reading.

eisenhart family in Lehigh Co. PA

I recently discovered a box of documents, photos, narrative descriptions, mementos, etc. apparently compiled by my grandfather, Amber Charles Eisenhart(1889-1982), son of Sylvanus(Wayne) Eisenhart and Ida Gangawere Shearer(Scheare) of the Spring Valley, PA area. He has apparently traced the family directly back to his grandfather Hiram(married Matilda Beidler) and greatgrandfather, Benjamin(1805-1878) m.Catherine Seibel. He apparently had indirect evidence linking the family to a John Eisenhart(1769-1825) m. Catherine Hiske and to Andreas Eisenhart III (1742-1817) born in Deckenfronn, Germany. There is a great deal of additional information about other branches of the family as well as correspondence with numerous family members about Eisenhart family history including tragedies, scandals, and affectionate remembrances. I realize that I am fortunate to possess such a fascinating collection, but being a novice re genealogy and being brand new to the Internet, I am somewhat overwhelmed. Anyone wishing access to this information would be welcomed. Any suggestions re compiling and protection of these documents, etc. would be appreciated.
