Trying To Find Sallie Eisenhower of Philadelphia's Maiden Name, How To Find, Please Help!

If this happens to be the wrong section to post this, and if there may be a better category to help with my search, please let me know.

A brief rundown of what I'm looking for, and what I have, may end up helping in my hunt for information and help another genealogist give me some advice.

My great-great-grandfather was married to a woman, Sallie Eisenhower, who would be my great-great-grandmother, in Philadelphia, PA. I found that she died at the age of 39 from blood poising. I found out from a cemetery director that along in her grave was a child, Albert Eisenhower, who was listed as 13 months old at the time of death. What led me to believe that this was probably her child, was due the fact that the child died a year later, 13 months exact, from the time of her death. The feeling I have is that she probably died of complications from childbirth. I have never known this woman's surname, only my family's surname, with none of the family actually knowing anything about her other than she was my great-grandfather's biological mother who died when he was just 14 years old. My great-great-grandfather remarried, so the stepmother was usually referred to as a grandmother even though it was not through blood.

Trying to find my biological great-great-grandmother's surname has become an arduous task with dead ends at every turn. She either lists with her married name, Eisenhower, or is not listed at all.

I went to one of the family burial plots and requested any info about the people buried, four to be exact. Her name was placed on the tombstone. I received a list containing the names, their burial dates, and their last known residence at the time of their death. Of course, she was buried with her married name and there was no record of her maiden, which I assume is standard in a cemetery's records. Anyway, to make a long story short, I found her last address at the time of her death.

Next, I searched archives to find her death registration which listed the coroner, cause of death, and actual date of death. So I have this information.

What I am now looking for is something listing her maiden name. I have my great-grandfather's death certificate from 1940, and it contained spots for both the father's and mother's names, including the mother's surname. Unfortunately, since she died so young and the family remaining never met her, the area which should have been filled in with her information was left blank.

So now I'm wondering what a death certificate from 1885 looks like from Philadelphia, and if like the 1940 one, would also request her parent's names. The other question I have is, if infant dies and did not pass at least a year in age, were they issued death certificates as well? I'm thinking of not only requesting Sallie's death certificate, but Albert Eisenhower's as well, although he did not turn up on any death index. I also don't know if I should try to request Sallie's marriage certificate as well. These are a few items I'm thinking could contain her maiden name, and perhaps if Albert was indeed her child. Like I said, I'm trying to find something listing her surname.

Basically, what I have tried to lay out here, is the information I have, and if a fellow genealogist could tell me if this information is enough to request other certificates, and which ones I should be looking for which may contain a maiden name.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give. It is immensely appreciated!

Sincerely,

Al Pellecchia

Hi. I have a scanned copy (although not in great shape and not complete) of an Eisenhauer family tree back to Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer who came to America aboard the ship "Europa" from Rotterdam in 1741. Dwight David is in this tree. I would be happy to send copies via e-mail to anyone who is interested.

My husband's grandmother was Ethel Eisenhauer from York, PA.

Looking for Eisenhower Researchers/Family Members

I just started a new blog called Eisenhower History related to my research of my Eisenhauer lineage. Not much is there yet, but I intend to create an entire Eisenhauer community with family trees databases and such. What I am looking for from members on this site is anyone who is also doing research on their specific branch of Eisenhauer lineage or other Eisenhauer research and would like to contribute articles about what they have found to my blog and the Eisenhauer community as a whole. Please email me at jrike34@eisenhowerhistory.com if you are interested. You can also view the site at http://eisenhowerhistory.com

Thank you

New Eisenhower/Eisenhauer History Blog and Genealogy Database

I just started a new blog specifically related to my research about my Eisenhauer heritage. Currently there is not much there but I am posting new stuff from my grandmother's collection of family history everyday. I would also love if some of you could help contribute. The site is www.eisenhowerhistory.com
Please feel free to email me any information you have (i.e. family trees, scans of military records, birth certificates, etc). I want the site to be a huge collection and community of Eisenhauer history (ancestors and descendents of Hans Nicholas) and those families surrounding them. I also am setting up a program on the site called phpGedView which allows us to build a large family tree online and collect other data in a logical genealogical manner. I hope to make this site a success, so please start contributing, I will post anything relevant and if you are doing Eisenhauer research yourself I would be glad to make you an author on my blog so you can share your data with others.

site: http://eisenhowerhistory.com
my email: jrike34@eisenhowerhistory.com

I have been searching for info on an early marriage to Charles Eisenhauer (Eisenhower) prior to 1900. My grandfather Charles Eisenhaur (hauer) was known to have married prior to my grandmother Matilda Edna Retherford in 1919. He was 42 years older than she and it was rumored that there were children born to that marriage and they had divorced or she had died when the children were small. He was born in Franklin Twp, Snyder Co. on 2 Feb. 1975. His father was Jacob Wittenmyer Eisenhauer and was also born in Pa. What can you tell me about this family?

Eisenhauer information wanted

I am researching the Eisenhauer family and would appreciate any input regarding relations in Lancaster/Lebanon Counties. Specifically I am looking for children of Benjamin Eisenhauer born April 5, 1771 in Bethel Township, death Jan. 2, 1821 in Bethel Township, PA. He married Catherine Becker and I am not sure on her dates. They were married Aug. 30, 1789. I know they had a son Jacob (Isenhour) born about 1793, but I would like to find out their other children. Any other information would be appreciated too.

Anybody wanting information from me please ask, I'd gladly send information if I have it for you.

Melissa

Re: Son of Hans Peter Eisenhauer, Christopher

Was checking the message board when I came across your posting about Christopher. My husband is an Eisenhower and I have traced his line back to the first Eisenhauer that came to America. In your posting ,you have Christopher's wife as Anna. Anna was his mother. Hans Peter and Anna Catharine Mildenberger were married about 1677 in Eiterbach,Germany.Anna was Hans Peter's first wife.Christopher was their son.His silbings were:A.Catherine,Hans,Mattaus and Hans Nicholas. They all spelled the last name as Eisenhauer. The spelling of Eisenhower did not come in to play until 1850's.That is where my husband's great -grandfather Theodore and his brother, Issac were the only 2 in the family that went with the spelling Eisenhower. The rest of the siblings spelled it the old way,Eisenhauer.I found this information in the WorldConnect Project on the Rootsweb.com site.Look under global search section. If you need anymore info please email me.

Versula Victoria Eisenhauer and Thomas Shirley Arner (1867-1943); St. Joseph, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids, MI with PA roots

The Arner Family Association seeks descendants of:

VERSULA VICTORIA EISENHAUER, Thomas Shirley Arner, 1867-1943, St. Joseph; Kalamazoo; Grand Rapids, Kent, MI.

You are almost certainly descendants of Hans Ulrich Arner and Verena Eberhard, 1735 immigrants from Switzerland to Philadelphia. Join us for an August 24-25, 2002 gathering in beautiful Lehigh County, Pennsylvania (1 hour north of Philadelphia). For “reunion” information or to see where you fit into the *rner family, visit Joe Erner’s website at www.geocities.com/~erner/gen/arner which documents the Arner/Aner family to the 1500s, or contact us through the Arner Listserv at ARNER-L@rootsweb.com. We’re planning two fun-filled days including a catered Pennsylvania Dutch luncheon and the dedication of a memorial stone in the Heidelberg Union Church cemetery to honor the immigrants. Help us widen our circle of cyber-cousins and plan to attend. We welcome you.

I am looking for information regarding Eisenhauers. My great-grandfather was Charles P. Eisenhauer born in Dayton, Ohio in the 1880's or 1890's. Between his two marriages, he produced 12 children, including my grandfather, Paul Bernard Eisenhauer. I've heard tales that 3 Eisenhauer brothers came from Hanover, West Germany. One brother went to Nova Scotia, one to Pennsylvania and one (my relation) to Ohio. If anyone has any information, response is greatly appreciated.

My grandfather was Norbert Eisenhauer born around 1905-1910. He died in the early 1980's (I think) He married Amelia Cherek (sp?) and they have two children, Norbert and William George (my father). When he died, he lived in the Cleveland, OH area, but I do not know where he was born and I have not been able to find out anything about his family. He and my grandmother divorced before I was born (actually shortly after my father was born), and I had very little contact with him. Any info or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Any info on George Eisenhauer and Emma
Ortner would be greatly appreciated. Their
offspring Phillip, Albert, John. I do not
know of any female children. They all lived
in Brooklyn, NY In the late 1800's Albert
and John were employed at the Brooklyn
Borough Gas Co. in 1936 Phillip may have
been employed there also. Their parents were
born in Germany Thank you Pat Newcomb

I am searching for family history on Ella Mary Eisenhauer. She was the daughter of Herman Eisenhauer and Lina Nietzel. Ella married Albert Walter Lux and they had 4 children, one of whom was my grandmother. On my grandmother's birth certificate it reads that her mother's name was Elephrair. If anyone has any information on this side of the Eisenhauer family, please contact me. Thank you.
