Hi,
I have been searching for my great grandmothers roots. She came her from Alsace Lorraine around 1850.I do not know if she came with family as I am having trouble finding her in immigration records. She listed herself as coming from France in the 1860 & 1870 census records and in later census records as Germany. This was after Germany took the Alsace Lorraine area from France in a war in the 1870's. I beleive that she must have been from a german speaking area of Alsace Lorraine because I think her native language was german and not french. Her name is Mary and I have seen her maiden listed as Eismann, Eiselmann, Iseman & Isselmann. With the pronunciation of the name you could flip an "I" for an "E" and it would still sound the same. So Eisenmann is a possibility of a family link.
