Hi, I'm from the US and I have an uncle with the Eisenstein last name. Though, he is from Columbia originally before he moved here, I'm not sure where his ancestors are from. I don't know if this info will help at all. But I thought it would be something you would want to know.

I am looking for infos on my g.g-father born in Woittitz 60km south of Prague in 1849. He went to the USA around 1875 later or before...but never emigrated in the USA. His name was Alois Eisenstein. He went back to his wife and 6 children in Saaz in the Czech Republic...in those days it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He eventually died in Vienna, Austria in 1910 and is buried in the old jewish cemetery of Vienna with his wife Charlotte

My family came from Brooklyn, N.Y. My grandfather was Simon and his wife was Martha. Their children were Simon Jr, Adelaide or Adele, Elinor and Elizabeth or Bettina, called Betty.
Am Trying to track down Barbara Eisenstein b1835 who arrived with a Louis Eisenstein b ca.Jan 1859 from Baden, Germany on June 15,1859. She may have married a Henry Thobe in or around Auglaize or Shelby County,Ohio. Have not been able to connect her with any of your Eisensteins except for coming from Baden. I just happened to see the Jacob Eisenstein record and passed it on to you. Not really researching him. So far have been unable to find anything on Barbara.

Happened to be clicking away on an AOL ancestry page............Yours was the first and maybe the only EIsenstein I saw from Russia.......all others were from Germany. My Grandfather was Louis from Russia and I know he had a couple brothers out East. Think ones name was Tedris...........does that sound familiar.

Izenstein/Eisenstein

Any information about Rex Hyman Eisenstein or his sister Hettie Eisenstein who arrived in the UK around 1918-1920 from Lithuania (we think?) Rex died in the 1940's/50's and is buried in Warrington,ENGLAND Rex and Hettie may have arrived with a parent but we have no information. Our Family name is now Izenstain but we feel that Izenstein or Eisentein is more likely to be the correct spelling any infomation welcome Thanks.

Eisenstine, Eisenstein

Looking for any info. on my paternal great grandmother whose name was Emma Eisenstine. The "tine" spelling is my uncle's best guess but I think the "tein" spelling is more probable. She married James Senter Rice and may have been in the San Angelo, Texas area at the time. The approximate time would have been the mid to late 1800s. Lots of mystery surrounds this woman. My family says there were stories of her father being from Germany or somewhere in Europe and even perhaps of royal blood. Her father went back to Europe on the death of some relatives and never returned. However, some years later her sister (known to be her father's favorite) suddenly just disappeared. Some speculate he came back and got her. There is also a story of her brother being shot in a card game in Silver City, NM. Fascinating stories. I, too, am fascinated but frustrated by lack of info. Have tried both spellings and still coming up empty. Have no information on year of birth, place or anything else. To make it even more torturous....I have a diary she kept dating back to 1880s....just little tidbits of her life. Would love to know more but will have to have some help. Hints on researching Jewish history would also be appreciated. Thanks for anything!!

Re: Eisenstein from Austria-Hungary (Poland)

Dear Susan,

About the Eisenstein from Austria-Hungary...I can not add any connection with the Eisenstein name, but your last name, Wool, has a definite connection with a Wool that was the acting ruler of Austria during the coronation of a new ruler.

I am not into geneology. My daughter e-mailed the URL to me, because of the number of Wool's. It is a Jewish name that has not been shortened by virtue of immigration to the U.S.

The branch of the Wool family that I am part of immigrated from Russia. We were initially from the North Jersey area, and settled in the Reading, Penna. area several years ago.

Regards,

Bob Wool
