It looks like my Olaf was born in 1837 and according to the 1900 US Census he emigrated in 1882. I know he is from Sweden but I do not know where as I am having trouble locating his immigration records.

It is most likely that the 2 Olafs are not the same, as yours is listed as being born much later.

There are some public family trees that list my Olaf as being married to an Anna Hanson, but I am not so sure as I can not find any evidence of this. All I know is that on the 1900 Census, it shows that he had recently married an Anna and my guess is he adopted her three children (Alfred, Minnie and Adolph).

His son (or as I believe it Olaf was his father) is Swan John 'SJ' Ek. I have him listed as being born Oct 18 1862 i Kristianstad, Skane, Sweden, so I guess that if Olaf was his Father he would have emigrated from there as well. SJ is my 2nd Great Grandfather. He had many children, my Great Grandfather being Emil Alvin Ek born 1894.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I have been searching for information regarding the Ek part of my ancestry. I have an Olaf Ek as my 3rd great grandfather, his son Swan John 'SJ' Ek was my connection to him. From what I understand Olaf had 4 boys (SJ and his brothers) with his first wife (name unknown) before emigrating in 1882. According to the 1900 census, Olaf married an Anna in 1900 and took over as father of her three children (Alfred, Minnie, Adolph). I know that SJ lived in McPherson County Kansas and I know that his granddaughter (my grandmother Darlene Ek) was born there but Im not sure about Olaf as the 1900 census had him and Anna and her children living in North Dakota... Could this be the same Oaf and Anna Ek?

Lars Jonsson Ek was a former soldier (in Sweden called husar)and as such a man it was very common that youtook another surename. Only so they could be separeted from another Lars Jonsson. This is of course not 100% right in your case, but it was very common in those days. They normally used a name from their background or from where they came (from Eker village). I have a soldier from my ancestors who came from a place Långanäs, he could himself Magnusson Långnäs.

Olof Ek died 29th of April 1867.

Now I hope I am writing to the right person and you can recognise the info.
Please let me know if there is something else you will have about this family or somebody else and I will try to search for you.

Ek in Duluth Minnesota from Sweden in 1903

I am trying to trace my great grandfather Anders Johan Ek back to Sweden. He immigrated to Duluth, Mn. in 1903 with his wife Anna Lovisa (Johansson, Jonaasson, Johansdotter, etc) and his son Einar Karl Ek. His brother Mauritz Wilhelm Ek also immigrated with his family.

Anders Johan changed his name to John Ek after he moved and became a naturalized citizen.

I am having a tough time coming up with anything re: where he came from in Sweden and who his parents were. On the immigration manifesto (in Swedish), it looks like he came from Traukil Werml.... must be illegible handwriting because I also cannot find anything geographically close to that name in Sweden.... Any help from anyone would be very appreciated!!!

Well it looks like you last posted over 10 years ago, but I thought I would give it a shot. I am trying to put together my family history. I had a grandfather named Eric (possibly mispelled as Erick or Erik who lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He had three brothers named Gunnar, George, and Harold. I believe his wife's name was Christina Ek. It would likely have been around the same time period. Any information would help. Thanks!

Recently another swedish genealogist forwarded your request to me.

My Ek ancestors were also from Varmland (N.Bogerud Parish). From your brief outline I am relatively sure we are not related. The Ek name in my family also was generated by the military but back somewhere about 1765. They used the Ek name after that point rather than the patronymick.

My parents came to the US in 1923 so we are newcomers. I lived in Michigan for many years but my parents stayed in NY.

Have you tried any of your queries on the Swedish genealogic Sites such as Anbytarforum? I have gotten much useful info from them.

Ek - John, Christina, Ana, Maria

Johann Henricksson was born 1/26/1832 in Sandsjo, Nordmark, Varmland Sweden and married Stina Cajsa henricksdotter (b. 3/5/1829 Brattfors, Varmland, Sweden). He changed his name to Ek when he joined the Military. (Ek means "Oak" in Swedish).

They had children: Maria Sabrina (b. 10/24/1856, Farnebo, Varmland Sweden and married Hagerman?) Christina Mathilda (b. 1/1/1859, Farnebo and married (1) Nils Nord and (2) Charles Hedin), Ana Louisa (b. 10/1/1861 Farnebo and married Skoglund), Johann Gustaf (John - b. 3/26/1864, Farnebo and married Bertha _____) and Carl Albert (Twin to John - b. 3/26/1864 Farnebo and married Hulda Frisk.

All the children except for Carl came to America in the late 1880's and were in Michigan. Ana stayed in Michigan while John and Christina travelled to the Butte, MT area. It's believed that Maria was in Chicago sometime in the early 1900's. John died in Idaho and Christina in Montana.

I have the Swedish lines back quite a ways.

Jo

My ggrandmother was Cecilia Ek, born 1867 in Arklestorp, Oppmana Parish, Skane, Sweden. She emigrated to the US in 1885 with one of her brothers, Nils who was born 1864. Another brother Sven had emigrated here in 1884 and a sister Betty in 1891. Other siblings remained in Sweden. I'm not sure where Nils eventually settled but he was in Kansas when he first came here.
EK in Duluth, Minnesota and Superior, Wisconsin

I am searching for any information about the family of Amanda Harriet EK, born somewhere in Sweden in May, 1879. The census is hard to read and confusing, but it looks like she immigrated in 1891 or 1882.
She married Gust SANDQUIST or SUNDQUIST about 1896 and they lived in Superior, WI. They appear in the 1900 Census with 2 children. Gust was killed in some sort of mining accident and a few days later both children died of diphtheria.
Amanda later marryied Victor STROMDAHL, date unknown, and they lived in Duluth, MN. Victor and Amanda's 2 sons were born in the early 1920s.
This is all of the information I have. Does anyone know of this family? I have hit a brick wall.
Thank you.
