Eklund Family

I am researching my Paternal Grandmothers family. Her name was Lucile Liberty Eklund born in 1919 in Illinois, she had 4 sisters,
Elizabeth I Eklund Born 1909 in Illinois
Flora R Eklund Born in 1910 in Illinois
Esther V Eklund Born in 1914 in Illinois
Irene I Eklund born in 1918 in Illinois

Her fathers name was David A Eklund born in 1888 or 1889 in Illinois. Her mothers name was Elizabeth F Eklund (nee Bartel) born in 1889 in Germany. They married on October 29 1907 in St.Joseph, Berrien county,Michigan.

Davids parents were Charles (Claus)A Eklund born in 1864 in Sweden, married Emma Josephine Polson born in 1868 in Sweden, not sure of date.
They had 5 children 3 boys and 2 girls:
David A Eklund born 1888 or 1889 in Illinois(my great grandfather)
Edward V Eklund born 1892 in Illinois
Ruby E Eklund born 1895 in Illinois
Edna J Eklund born 1900 in Illinois
Carl O Eklund born 1908 in Illinois

the 1910 federal Census shows them living in Will county, Illinois. Also living there were David's wife and 2 oldest girls.

According to the 1880 federal census Charle's father, Olof P Eklund, born in 1842 in Sweden, a farmer, and 3 of his Children lived in Mamre, Kandiyohi, Minnesota. Olof was widowed by that time,he had married Hannah Johnson(birth and death dates unknown) the children were:
Jan (John) Eklund born 1862 in Sweden
Stina A(Hina) Eklund born 1866 in Sweden
Johanna Eklund born 1869 in Sweden
along with Olof and the children there was an Eva Sophi Johnson (1841 in Sweden)living there listed as a servent.
I am really interested in getting more information, I believe Olof's mothers name was Ingeborg(1828). I cannot find Olof's fathers name or any information on him. I also would like to get more information on Hannah, like date of birth, death, cause of death and her parents names.

I thought that maybe Eva was related to Hannah but could find no conection. I do know that my Grandmother Lucile was married to (1)James Earl Coppedge and had 3 children:
David E Coppedge born 1936 in Illinois, Died 2001 in Michigan
Patricia Coppedge (Mulvey) born 1938 (unknown) Died 1956-1958 in Illinois.
James Earl Coppedge Jr.(My father) born 1941 in Newark, New Jersey.
(2) Fred Verner(sp.) (3) Robert Richards they had one child:
Stuart Richards born 1951 in New York, Died 2007 in New York.

I would appreciate any input from any one on information on any of those listed and any I might not have. Thank you in advance!
Thank you all for posting information about this family!

My husband Steve, is the son of Lovae Ecklund and Edward Wiegner, making Steve Morris's grandson. Lovea speaks very highly of Paul, who was her stepfather when she was growing up. We have pictures of him and Rhoda from the 50's. We also have some old photos that Lovae is unable to identify that any of you might be able to give us some help with.

Lovae and Ed had two sons, Steve and Stuart. Steve has one daughter, Patricia. We live in Tampa Florida and welcome communication from anyone in this family line!

Hi,
I had contacted you by e-mail about your pictures and sent you my home address. Since I hadn't heard back from you, I am checking to make sure you got my e-mail. If it is too much to send all of the pictures, could you just e-mail me a few, especially ones that include Florence, my aunt.

freilinokl@yahoo.com

Thanks a million!

You can contact me at langhans@pa.net if you would like for me to put them on a disc.
Dan Langhans

I have many pictures of the Eklund family. They include some of Lester, Albert and Thea. In at least one photo Florence is with Albert and Thea. I also have a picture of my grandfather Ernest Eklund with Florence with Thea. Ernest dated Florence but married an English girl instead of a Swedish girl. She was a North. You can contact me at langhans@pa.net with your address and I will put pictures on a CD for you. Dan Langhans

Ms. Stuart: Ny grandmother was Selma (Eklund) Wright, Natalit(Nettle's) sister. There exists at the Keweenaw Natl. Historic Part an archive of the Eklund(Anderson) as Svante was sometimes called in C & H records. Jeremiah Mason is the archivist. There are lots of pictures, etc., some of which I donated as well as an article from the KNHP's paper. Linda Goncalves and others of the cousins of whatever degree already have much of the info. I live for six months of the year in Calumet and have seen to the care of the family graves.

It is true that the 1890 census reports the birthplace of Svante (Swan) as Norway, but he was living in a boardinghouse, so it is possible to have been incorrectly reported. The census of 1910 and of 1920 state his birthplace as Sweden. In both he is living with family, so I give more weight to Sweden as the correct birthplace. That, and it agrees with my family's oral histories. Svante Eklund was my great-great grandfather, and our family's history came from his daughter, my great-grandmother Natalie.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1924 (meaning he probably was born sometime around 1902) where he was an All-American basketball player and also played football.

He became a football and basketball coach at the University of Kentucky in 1926 and sometime later was a football coach at Minnesota.

Below is a link to his basketball coaching career at Kentucky which includes a photograph.

http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/Statistics/Coaches/Ray_Eklu...

If anyone has any information or suggestions of where to look, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Jon

Yes, Karl was Agnes' brother - Charles here. They lived in Millinocket, ME. I actually visited with their daughter Fannie in the early 60's. Agnes (presumably named for my Grandmother) died in 1925. I know this because I came across a really bad photo of a gravestone. Thanks to todays technology, my son was able to manipulate the scan so that we could read most of it. It was for Charles, Matilda and Agnes. I actually thought it was from Finland, and was surprised to find it was from Maine. There was another brother, George, who came to the US, lived and died single in the Bronx. I can find no records of his immigration. I hope to try to locate some info on him here.
All I know about Anne is that her husband Richard was killed in a contruction accident in NYC, and she remarried, to George Carlson. They had one son, George. I know son George lived in Bethpage, NY, and died in 1992. This is according to my Uncle, and the ssi death index. I know he had a bunch of kids, again, according to my Uncle. Last known location of Vera was in Baltimore, but I don't know her married name. I have found a Rudolf Soderman in the SSI death index in Florida, but I don't know if it is the same person.
You have found alot of information quickly! Most of what you have listed took me weeks to uncover. Thanks for your interest.
Diane

Thanks for your reply Kerstin,
I had found all the information that you found. They are all indeed my Grandparents. Yes, my Grandfather was an army soldier in WWI, and was wounded, lost a leg to a shrapnel wound. I have gotten away from research due to family issues, but hope to get back to it soon. I received lots of good information on how to research in Finland for my Grandmother from the nice people on this list. I have been fortunate to find tons of info on my Grandfather in Sweden. My Grandmother still remains a mystery. Thanks again for your time.
Diane
