I know this is really reaching but was you Ernst Ekström my Ernst Oscar Johansson Ekström (b. 21 July 1882, Ekhult Södregård, Markaryd)? The son of the soldier Johan Ekström and Mathilda Johansdotter? If so, we have a relationship of sorts. My Ernst Oscar was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. We shared the couple of Nils Svensson and Maja Svensdotter. They were his morfars fars parents and they were my mormors farfars mors parents.

Hi,
I hope that you are still involved as it's 6 years on and I just found this post thanks to a Swedish friend who is helping me trace my family. My great grandfather immigrated from Rydaholm in the late 1860's and had three brothers who also came to Chicago area. Their original surname was Peterson, but family "myth" says they changed their name to Matoon (or Mattoon-my spelling) because there were too many Petersons in the area. We believe that Gust (Gustaf) and Johan or Johannes (John) are my great grandfather's brothers. My great grandfather left Chicago with wife Emma in late 1880s and came to Minnesota (East Chain township)and the family subsequently lost touch as my great grandfather Carl (Charles Matoon) died in 1923. I would love to see these pictures if you still have them!
Best,
Nancy Mattoon

I have a pretty complete list of my relatives, and there is no Henning. I live in Minnesota, though. I found the microfiche records at the Denver library helped me a lot in pinning down dates of death, etc, for relatives we had lost track of in the early 1900's. I also called the cemetary where my Grandfather's sister in law was buried, and they were able to give me a date of death for her husband.

I am really glad to hear from you! I just got back from visiting my son in Denver, and I found Adolph and Emilia's grave sites. If you look at the draft card from WWI and the census from 1920 Anton was born in Bertrand, Nebraska. All four of the Ekstrom children, Anton, Esther, Conrad, and Emmett were born there. My cousin has a post card from Bertrand, Nebraska, and she couldn't figure out the connection until I found the draft card. I have a photo of Adolph holding my Aunt Marj. My father-Robert Ekstrom was in Mary Frances's wedding photo. Adolph was my grandfather's brother. Both of them came over from Sweden and changed their name to Ekstrom. Emilia was born in Sweden too, as was my grandmother Marie. My grandfather didn't marry until 1903-he was 43 at the time, and their children weren't born until 1914, and 1916, so my father was of Anton and Marie's children's generation. I also have a photo of Marie. I have been corresponding with a relative in Sweden, and he has traced the family back to the 1600's.

Ekstrom migration to US

Several brothers and sisters immigrated to US starting in the 1880's from Sävar Västerbotten Län. Their names were Maria, Eric, Oscar, Abel, Klara, Leonard. One brother, Johann, went to Quebec. Their father was Karl Jacob Erickson, but he used the surname Ekstrom, which they all used. I know Marie married Otto Holmgren in Chicago; Abel married Selma Hubinette. Both lived in Joliet, IL. Marie and her family went to Oscceola Co, MI for awhile before returning to Joliet. Eric returned to Sweden before 1890.

They had three newphews, Eric, Karl, and Magnus, sons of a brother who never immigrated. Sons used surname Carlson and variations; they immigrated 1905-1906, with 2 going to Joliet. Not much more known of them.

I am looking for information on any and all these families. Am willing to share information I do have.

Dear Gigglingplace - Thank you for the email contact to continue my search.

I am completing a family tree and I am looking to complete some information. I am looking to fill in the information on Glendolyn Jean Ekstrom. I believe she married a Frederick Brenton Clements and that they have a son Bradley Scott Clements. I was wondering if you could please give me information on if they are still living in Calgary.

I would also appreciate so very much any other family history that you could give me.

Thank you so very much.

Rosemary

race car driver

Hi I am asking for a census lookup and anything else that can be done to find information on my father who became a butcher in Sweden or Denmark and then a race car driver. Between 1893 I think and 1916 or 1910.
Can you help me wth Census or the police signout of Sweden or whatever.

he was a racer car driver, probably in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and France, and may be also in Great Britain. In Germany he should have been sponsored by a steam ship compagny. Once he won a race, in his last race The co-driver or engineer was killed, and Gustaf himself was hurt, Maybe that made him finish racing, and it was maybe shortly afterwards, that he went to the USA.

This is my fathers detailed info.
Andreas Gustav Emanuel Olofsson born 8/27/1878 in Markaryd Goparish, County G Smoland, Kronoberg Lan, Sweden
My father used these names in USA:
Gust Olofsson
Andreas Gustav Emanuel Olofsson
Gustav Olofsson
Andrew Gustav Olofsson

John Samuel Ekstrom (Johannson?) or Mary Ophelia Asplund

I am beginning research on my father's side of the family now that my mother's side is nearly complete. I can only go as far back as my great-grandparents, as nobody is left alive that can tell me anything.

John Samuel Ekstrom (Johannson?-he changed his surname en route to the United States) is my paternal great-grandfather. He was born in Småland, Sweden May 1, 1859. He emigrated to the US in about 1879, and settled in Minnesota.

He married Mary Ophelia Asplund, who was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on January 21, 1875.

They had 5 children: Arthur, Verna (my paternal grandmother), May and Roy (twins), and Herbert.

Mary died May 28, 1934, and John died November 17, 1947. They are buried in Union Cemetery, White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Also in that cemetery is a large Asplund plot. I need to make a trip there to record the names, but as it is currently winter, it is difficult. The Asplund family had a farm in Hugo, Minnesota (a suburb of St. Paul), and as far as I know, it is still in the family as a cousin of mine had been living on it.

If anyone is researching the same family/families, I would love to share information!

Heidi

I'm looking for my ancestor Johanna Andersdotter Ekstrom born 1803 in Nor, Varmalnd, Sweden.
She married Lars Larsson born 1803 in Hol, Vastegotland, Sweden.
They and their daughter Lotta born 1841 in Siene, Vastegotland, Sweden emigrated in 1863.
I've found them in Census 1870 in Benson, Chippewa ct, Minnesota. They are not there in Census 1880. Maybe Johanna and Lars died in the 70's and Lotta married and got another surname.

There was also the son Sven Larsson born in 1837 in Hol, Vastergotland, Sweden. He emigrated in 1862 but I can't find him in Census 1870.

Any help to find out what happened to them will be very appreciated.
A family friend who collects antiques found a black an white family photo in a book: on the back is written: "The Estroms - taken around 1915 - lower from left, Lennie, Anna, John, Frieda. Upper from left - Egan, Roy, Iver, Ragner, Alfred"

There is no place written on the photo, It looks like a family photo, John and Anna look like the two oldest (parents??) We are located near Seattle, WA, and she found the book here. I would like to get the photo back to it's family - if anyone recognizes these names, please contact me at trice9@aol.com and I would be happy to mail it to you.
Good Luck family finding!

I just picked up a silver bread tray at a thrift store. Engraved on the back are these words:
Signe Ekstrom
of
M or P
on
B:d 1919

It also has the silver-makers markings on it, so I assume it is sterling. I would normally sell something like this for the silver content, but thought this might be a family heirloom?

I believe there is some relation to individuals in your message. I am the son of Kenneth Ekstrom. He is one of 5 children from Mable and George Albert Ekstrom. They were Helen, Loretta, Carl, Robert and Kenneth. I had always heard that Mable was a Peterson and that she was adopted. (?) The family histroy was never very accurate. I believe that George's parents were Gustav Olaf and Doris who were born in Sweden and came over to the states at some point. Mable and George met during their jobs. He was a Butcher, she was a baker. They lived in Chicago until they passed on.
I don' t know if any of this info matches your familiy history. Please let me know.
