Earliest know Elam's to America

Surnames: Elam/Ellam/Eliim
I am researching my Elam line in England. It would appear that per the igi, William Elam(written as Eliim) and his wife Eleanor were married 1737 and that my ancestry runs through his son, Thomas.
However, upon a closer look at the batch no. or film number the igi information seems to be found in some sort of record out of North Carolina. So, either the film is incorrect or there is a person who names William and Eleanor in a document of some sort out of North Carolina. I will be ordering up the film, but I am curious to know if any one knows who the first Elam(Ellam) to America was and what year this immigration might have happened.
