My great-grandfather, Sheperd Eland, came to the United States as a young boy from Whitehaven, England. (born in l868) His father was William Eland and mother was Elizabeth Shepherd. Sheperd married Mary Cornthwaite from Harrington, England, and was the son of Jacob Cornthwaite and Grace Golightly.
