I will see what I can find out about your John Eland. The 1861 census for Yorkshire, Gribthorpe shows Ann, age 57 a widow with the following children:

Able S?(unmar)27;
Knapton H(unmar)23;
Ellen E(unmar)24;
Eugenie Dowthwaite?(grand dau)3.
I do not think I am related to your Knaptons, but I am very interested in learning what I can about the other Knapton familes in the area.
