The Eldred family isn't in my line, but I have a book about this family descending from William Eldred of Yarmouth, particularly the Eldreds of Greene County, Illinois. It is compiled by Orville Ward Eldred, 2926 Leland Ave. Chicago, Il., with assistance of C.H. Eldred, of Madison, Wisconsin, W.H. Eldridge of Twin Falls Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Eldred Hubbard of Carrollton, Illinois. Contains the descendants of Jehosaphat Eldred who was of the fifth generation removed from William of Yarmouth, the first branch of the Eldred family in America-The line of descent being, William1, Samuel2, Jehosaphat3, Jehosaphat4, and Jehosaphat5. It has a plethora of information beginning with the tribes in Europe, a picture of John Eldred of Great Saxony with his epitaphs and brasses circa 1632., church records, marriages, etc. There are also excerpts taken from the diary kept by Ward Eldred in 1818 when he migrated on foot from Winfield, New York to Carrollton, Illinois. The old homestead of the first Eldred's in Greene County has been purchased by the local historical society and is to be completely renovated. It was built of native Limestone and must have been a marvel in it's day. If I can be of assistance to anyone researching these ancestors I would be more than happy to oblige. I have personally visited the old home site and can go back and take pictures of it if anyone is interested. I may be able to find it on the internet too.
