Edward O Eldred b 1887 in Indiana

Looking for info on Edward O. Eldred, born in 1887 in Terre Haute, Indiana. He joined the Army in May, 1908, served with the Signal Corps and was discharged in April 1910 at Fort Sam Houston, Texas as a first class Private.

On 2 March 1910, at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, Army Lieutenant Benjamin Foulois made the world’s first military flight in an heavier-than-air craft. On the ground, 1LT Foulois was supported by a small group of relatively unknown enlisted men who appear in the few pictures from the time around the event. The soldier listed above was one of these men.

The Fort Sam Houston Museum is trying to put names to images and are looking for pictures of these men. Is this soldier a member of your family? Do you have a picture of him, or stories to tell about his involvement in this event, or his other military service?

If so, please contact Jackie Davis, either through this forum (I can’t access it at work), or better, at jackie.davis@us.army.mil
I have a copy of my great-grandparent's Jerome ELDRED and Mary SWARTZ (SHERTZER) Application for Marriage License issued in Lucas County Ohio dated July 5, 1902.

It states that Jerome was born in Adrian, MI and his age is 29 on October 18, 1901 which would place his birth as 1872. It lists his residence as Gorman, MI and that his occupation is a Farmer. It lists his father is Lewis ELDRED and his mother is Hattie WALTERS.

It also states that Mary was born in Perrysburg, OH and her age is 31 on May 7, 1902 which would place her birth as 1871. It lists her residence as Waterville, OH. It lists her father is Joseph SHERTZER and her mother is Harriett BURNS. It says that she was previously married to Peter SWARTZ.

Does my information coincide with anyone’s information?
need help with an Eldred puzzle

Hi all,

I'm having a time continuity problem and I hope someone can help. The person in question is William Eldred. I have him born about 1790 in North Kingston, Rhode Island and died in 1870 in Whiteside, Illinois. His spouse was Mary Ella (b. 1792 in New York, d. 1860 in Whiteside, Illinois).

The problem is William's parents. I have them as Robert Eldred (b. about 1707, died 10 July 1758, born and died in North Kingston, Rhode Island) and Hannah Rathbun (born 22 March 1706 in New London, Connecticut and died 12 Feb 1764 in North Kingston, RI).

The problem is, if William's parents died in 1758 and 1764, how could he have been born in 1790? Does anyone know if these dates are wrong or if these is some other error here? Thanks!

Eldred Family Genealogy

The Eldred family isn't in my line, but I have a book about this family descending from William Eldred of Yarmouth, particularly the Eldreds of Greene County, Illinois. It is compiled by Orville Ward Eldred, 2926 Leland Ave. Chicago, Il., with assistance of C.H. Eldred, of Madison, Wisconsin, W.H. Eldridge of Twin Falls Idaho, and Mrs. Anna Eldred Hubbard of Carrollton, Illinois. Contains the descendants of Jehosaphat Eldred who was of the fifth generation removed from William of Yarmouth, the first branch of the Eldred family in America-The line of descent being, William1, Samuel2, Jehosaphat3, Jehosaphat4, and Jehosaphat5. It has a plethora of information beginning with the tribes in Europe, a picture of John Eldred of Great Saxony with his epitaphs and brasses circa 1632., church records, marriages, etc. There are also excerpts taken from the diary kept by Ward Eldred in 1818 when he migrated on foot from Winfield, New York to Carrollton, Illinois. The old homestead of the first Eldred's in Greene County has been purchased by the local historical society and is to be completely renovated. It was built of native Limestone and must have been a marvel in it's day. If I can be of assistance to anyone researching these ancestors I would be more than happy to oblige. I have personally visited the old home site and can go back and take pictures of it if anyone is interested. I may be able to find it on the internet too. The book contains letters dating back to 1820 and many incidentals covering people in the Civil War, what they did for a living, who participated in land rushes at Cherokee Strip, Oklahoma, with an inclination towards the family that settled Greene Co. Il. You can email me at the following address: Sagegrass2u@yahoo.com Good luck in your search.

Eldred - Harbert and Leland connection
Somehow my family is related to a Leland family, just do not know how. My grandmother's family came from Rhode Island: My greatgrandfather was James Eldred born in 1809 in Rhode Island and married to a woman named Sarah. They had children: Thomas W. Eldred, born in 1835 in Rhode Island, James Eldred, born 1838 in Rhode Island, Alban Eldred, born in 1842 and two sisters Sarah and Ann.

My grandfather Thomas W. Eldred married Caroline Pitcher (she was born in 1842 in Rhode Island) and they had children, one of the children was my grandmother Emma G. Eldred, born in 1879. My grandmother Emma Eldred married a man named Lewis W. Harbert (born 1869 in Illinois). They met in Nebraska and married there and had their children there - somehow one of those families has a connection to a Leland family - anyone have Harbert or Eldred relatives on this board?

"The history of the Eldred property is tied to the expansion of the United States into the Old Northwest territories following the American Revolution and the gradual settlement of Illinois by easterners early in the nineteenth century. Born in 1796 in Connecticut Ward Eldred had his eye on Illinois while it was still a territory. He and his cousin Swift traveled by foot from their home in New York’s Mohawk valley to Illinois in 1818 in the months just before statehood, surveying land in northern Madison County (presently Greene County ) before returning to New York."
(more on website)

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Illinois Valley Cultural Heritage Association."
John and Mary Eldred's descendants RI-VT-NY

I recently picked up a copy of Marston Watson's (2004) Royal Families: Reverend Francis Marbury and Five Generations of His Descendants Through Anne Marbury Hutchinson, et al.

In this geneaology, Watson states that John Eldred, son of Lt. Thomas Eldred and Susanna Cole, was born in 1670 and possibly died young. Therefore there was no record of his descendants.

My research has relied on other's reports that John Eldred was a Captain in the "Train Band", lived his whole life in N. Kingston and E. Greenwich, RI, married Mary ______,and died November 13, 1741.

Among his descendants was John Eldred (1712), who married Mary Greene and next Abigail Fish, and moved to Pownal,VT.

My familly line, I thought, then went like this:
John Eldred and Mary Greene
Nathan Eldred and Ruth Spencer (Pownal, VT)
Nathan Eldred and Hannah Cole (New Lisbon, NY)
Hannah Cole Eldred and Olney Harrington (NE)

Did Watson simply miss Captain John Eldred, or is he in fact undocumented by primary sources?

Hello,
I'd like to make contact with descendents of Eldred's, Lawrence's and Tobey's that stayed in the Climax area of Michigan. I have a lot of information to share and am specifically looking to contact descendent's of Amy and Catherine Eldred, daughter's of Judge Caleb Eldred. I have a lot of information concerning various Climax families. The more I look, I think in some way I'm related to all of them. If you have early Climax families I probably have information on them. I'd like to confirm some of my findings.

Thanks,
Darla
email me at casay2@bresnan.net
Looking for any information on Birth, Marriage, and/or Death of Rebecca ROUSE, wife(2) of William Eldred. They both supposedly died in Michigan. He at Galesburg on 8 Mar 1880 and she in Climax in 1847. Problem is that 2 children credited to her are claimed to be born in 1855 and 1860! Possibly her Grave Marker would have the information.

Searching Eldred Genealogy

My name is Jennifer and I have been researching my Eldred Genealogy for years. Unfortunately I have had no luck, but am pressing on, in hopes I will learn more in the future.

I am writing this query to inquire about any Eldred's that may be related to a Philip Ward Eldred, my great grandfather.

Although I don't know much about him, I do have info that has been passed down to me over time.

Such as he was married to my great grandmother Frances Keohokalani Kanoe. Together they resided on the island of O'ahu, where they were married.
Sadly they did not have a lot of time together as a married couple. My great grandad died in the Attack on Pearl Harbor of December 7, 1941. I only know he was a civilian worker at Pearl.

Though with some help from my grandmother, before she got ill with alzeihmers, she gave me a picture of him.

Included is a picture with my query, please if you believe we are related, contact me, I will be waiting.

A. E. and Samantha ELDRED of Michigan

My ggrandmother Mariah ELDRED (1847 - 1877) was married to William HILLS when she died in Wheatfield Township, Ingham County, MI in 1873. Her death record lists her parents as A. E. and Samantha ELDRED both born in Michigan. I have not been able to find her parents.

I did come across a record where Anson Eldredge age 19 of Township of Bruce in Macomb County, MI and Phebe Semantha HUNT of the Township of Ray, Macomb, MI aged 19 were joined in marriage on the 25th of Jan 1846. Wit: James Hunt and Seamon Young of Ray. Anson or Ancel is thought to be the son of Thomas Eldred and Phoebe Myers.

Ggrandmother Mariah was supposedly born in 1847 in Michigan. Don't know where. But the above Ansel and Semantha in the 1850 Census of Macomb Co, Bruce Twp, records a daughter Betsey age 3 born in Michigan. May be Betsey M. is my Mariah?

Anybody know these ELDRES or HUNTS?

Thanks, Dick

Trying to determine the parents of Chester W. Eldred born 1819 in New York. There's obviously some tie to Judge Caleb Eldred of Kalamazoo Co., Michigan but I'm unable to determine it.
Chester was in Michigan 1850-1870 and then took his family to Sacramento California before 1880. He died in California in Aug 1904.

Several of his children and 1 grandchild are incorrectly placed as the children of a Sidney Eldred of Sacramento in a gedcom file on Ancestry.com. I don't know if there's a tie with Sidney and Chester W. Eldred or not.

Any help in placing this Chester W. Eldred correctly is greatly appreciated.
Darla

NY and LI Eldreds

My great great grandfather, Israel Eldred, was born in 1822 in Hempstead. I am looking for his father and grandfather, both probably on Long Island as well. An Israel Eldred signed an oath of allegiance in Queens County, NY, on January 19, 1776. I believe that this Israel is the grandfather of my Israel. Does anyone have any information about this branch of Eldreds? Thank you.

ELDREDS IN LONDON< ENGLAND

I have found a family of Eldreds living in Malabar Street, Poplar, London (according to census records in 1901), which look like they are related to me through my mother Joan, who was born at the same adress in 1924. Her mother was GEORGINA VICTORIA Eldred (born 1901). I am now trying to find out who her mother and father are.
Is anyone out there looking for the same branch of the tree????
Hi! I am searching for a Susanna S. "Susie" Eldred who was born in 1867 in Wakefield, Rhode Island. She is my great great grandmother. My grandma told me that Susie's parents died when she was young and went to live with her uncle and aunt, Joshua C. and Dorcas Tucker. I found her living with them in the 1880 cencus. Susie married George W. Smith in 1941 in Wakefield, RI. He was born 28 Oct. 1872 in RI. I don't know anything about Susie's parents and would love to know more... if you can help me I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks,

Maddie :)

I'm looking for the family of Vane W(?) Eldred. There was something of his in amongst some of my grandmother's pictures and papers, so I'm wondering what the connection might be. I'm guessing he would have been in the San Francisco/East Bay Area in the late 1920's, though I think the 1930 census entry for him says he was born in Colorado.
Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Trisha Strickland
jellico at sonic dot net

Lost family history

I am looking for a living ELDRED, a logger in upstate New York who, in 1998, was loaned a bound book of ELDRED family genealogy that had been prepared by the noted family genealogist Stephen Claude ELDRED of Madison, Wisconsin in the mid 1900’s. It was loaned to him by the elderly widow of Stephen C. ELDRED who was himself the son of Stephen Claude ELDRED. She trusted this man with the loan of this book without ever getting his address, and has not heard from him since. Anyone with any information can post a reply or contact me at maetours@cheqnet.net.
Eldred siblings

I have been looking and looking for a William O. Eldred/Eldridge who lived for a time and probably died in Cedar County, MO.
I have found him on census records for 1870, but he must have died by 1880, since his second wife is listed as a widow.
I have found 2 different sources as to the place of his birth. One is New York, and one is Illinois. The only date I have to go on is the year of 1817, give or take a year. This from the 1870 census giving his age at that time. I have received tentative info that his first wife was a Sarah Emily Bradenburg and that they were married in Macon County, Illinois in 1849. I can not find proof of this marriage.
Does anyone have a William that would be born in this time frame? I know that somewhere someone has him down as a sibling to their ancestor. It is just finding them!
Please check your records. Thanks

I am the descendant of Frances Keohokalani Kanoe looking for info on my step great grandad. The most information I have on him is the following.

Philip Ward Eldred was possibly born in the Belgium Congo in Africa in August 22, 1905. His parents were possibly missionaries in Africa. His parent's names were Robert Ray Eldred and Lillian Beyers. Philip was then later adopted by another family. I do understand that the family he was adopted may have owned a bank but not sure where.
My step great grandad sadly though lost his life on
December 7, 1941, during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Please should anyone possibly be researching the eldred surname or have info on my step great grandad, well, I would greatly appreciate any help possible.

I am also looking for any possible kin that may continue to be living today.

I am looking for relatives related to Philip Ward Eldred, casualty of Pearl Harbor of December 7, 1941. I understand by family that my great grandad's family was from missouri. I was also told they might have owned a bank.
Info also passed on to me by others in my family of recent times that my great grandad had a brother. I was told that this brother may have worked at the Smithsonian Institute.

The only research that I have gathered over time has been my great grandad married Francis Keohokalani Kanoe. They resided on the island of O'ahu.

I am related by blood, I am the great grandaughter of Philip Ward Eldred and Francis Keohokalani Kanoe.

Please contact me if you believe we have any relation at all.

Holden Eldridge/Eldred RI>NY

Taking another stab at the Holden Eldred/Eldridge pedigree. My frustration comes at the gap of lineage from N Kingstown RI to Sardinia, NY.

Here's what I do know:
1. Holden was born May 20 1798 in Rhode Island.

2. He married ?? Little; He married Mary Casey b. 1811

3. He is in the 1850 Sardinia, Erie Co, NY Census as Holden Eldridge age 52, Polly age 28, Maryette age 9, John age 7 and Lysander age 1. (Not sure where Polly fits in as Mary would have been 39 at time of Census and she's not listed in household.)

4. He died Oct 28 1851 in Sardinia

5. Mary Casey Eldred died June 12 1883 and is buried in Colden NY.

6. Lysander (son of Holden) worked as a farm laborer in Canada according to 1881 Ontario Census. Sometime around 1880 Lysander married Sarah Jane Walker b.1861 Ontario Canada (daughter of Timothy Walker).

7. 1884 Kent Co, MI Census: Fam 434 Pg 95
Lysander Eldred, age 35, born in NY, Father born NY, Mother born NY Sarah, age 23, born Canada, Father born England, Mother born Canada James, son, age 2, born in Canada Miniworth (sp?), daughter, age 9/12, born MI

I have further information on James Lysander and Sarah Jane's descendents.

Looking for parent information on Holden. Boston Transcript indicates He probably is a descendent of Capt. John Eldred, but I can't find the link from Capt. John to my Holden. There is another Holden that ended up in Greenville, WI. I haven't found a family connection with him.

Can anyone help me connect the dots?

Dennilyn
2nd great granddaugther of Holden Eldred/Eldridge
Sources: Boston Transcript; Death record; cememtery transcript; Census records
