Oliver Eldridge was my great-uncle. His brother, my grandfather, was Raymond Edward Eldridge, born Omaha 1888. Their father, William Henry Eldridge, my great-grandfather, was born in Rhode Island in about 1860, I believe. His father was James C. Eldridge and his mother, James' wife, was Elmira Eaton. I know virtually nothing about William Henry's sister Ella Eldridge or any of her descendants. I have some photos of a house in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, which belonged to the Eldridge family, and also some Eldridge gravestones from an Episcopal church there. A distant relation has done some sleuthing and believes that the Eldridge family can be traced as far back as the 15th century to a town near Ipswich, in East Anglia, in England. Earliest written record about the family is a marriage record from the 1630s in Ipswich, the family went to New England sometime in the 1640s.
Raymond and Oliver were William Henry's sons by his first marriage to Jennie Shields, who died in 1891 when both boys were very young. Jennie came from a large family and her parents were born in Europe--Switzerland and Prussia. Believe she is buried somewhere in Omaha. William Henry married again and had another son, Guy, Oliver and Ray's half brother.
My grandfather Ray Eldridge died in 1953 when I was an infant. Ray married Charlotte Skidmore, my grandmother, in Omaha in 1924. My mother Marilyn Eldridge was born in Omaha in 1927 and married Roy Pattison in Houston in 1948. She died on June 20, 1969 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her brother, my uncle Robert Eldridge, born in Omaha in 1926 and is still living in La Porte, Texas.
Believe that Oliver and Hazel had at least two boys but I have never had any contact with this branch of the Eldridge family or with Guy Eldridge and his family. Believe Oliver passed away in Los Angeles area in the mid 1960s and also believe Guy was living in that area at that time. Would like to establish contact with any of their children, cousins I have never met.
