Eleby In Mississippi

Are there any Elebys in Kemper County, Mississippi? Especially in or near the town of Dekalb? My gggrandfather Joseph Goodwin had 3 younger brothers named William, Roy/Ray, and Tom whose last name was Eleby (various spellings). Their mother was Ella Brown and they lived in Dekalb, MS. My gggrandfather moved his family to Pine Bluff, Arkansas around 1913 and no one in the family knows if he maintained contact with the Eleby side. I'm very interested in knowing why the Eleby boys were originally listed as Brown in 1890,1896, and 1900 but by 1910 their name had been changed. Also interested in connecting with any relatives.

Leave a message or feel free to email me.

I'm reserching my son-in-laws family. I've been able to trace them back to pre civil war in the Carolinas. The name then was Erby. This is from memory since all my reserch is still packed from moving. He was a millionare Black landowner.
Bare in mind that census takers then got thier job thru being friends or relatives of politions. A deep tan could get you listed as black. The family moved with the Cherokee to the Olkahoma res. with a portion settling in Tennesse and Helenville, Ak. Does your Isreal have a sister named Rosalee?
If so there might be a connection, Rosalee is my son-in-law's grandmother, and at his furneral they said that they had been trying to get ahold of I, could they have been refering to Isreal?
Jerry

My mother was Marie Eleby born in Helena AR. She has a sister named Jessie living in Chicago, Il. I find it strange that the Eleby family is so fragmented. I am sure we are related. I reside in Park Forest, Il, a suburb of Chicago. Jessie is the only living sister of my mother, who passed away in 1981. My grandparents were deceased when I was born.

I'm just starting. My dad's name was Dave. He was born in Arkansas. His relatives that I met lived in Rentiesville, OK. I can't find any of them. I feel like I have lost part of me. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Eleby name

My son-in-law is a eleby. We have traced the family to 1860 in the Carolinas. After the war they moved to Tenn. and then to Helensville Ark. We are trying to establish if there is any Native American blood. His wife (my daughter) is Ottawa and we want to enroll thier children but we are short on the blood quantum needed for enrollment by 1/8th. If we can establish 1/8 blood from another tribe they would be able to be enrolled with the Ottawa and/or the other tribe. The state of Wi. has taken these children and are in the process of terminating the parents rights with plans to adoph them to a family from Puerto Rico. The children were very active in thier culture piror to being taken. If we can establish thier eligatability for the role we can try to force the state to honor USC25 the federal law the gives jurdisction to the tribal courts.
