Jack Blaine Eley - Chillicothe, Ohio

CHILLICOTHE: Jack Blaine ("J.B.") Eley, age 84, of Chillicothe, passed away Sunday morning, May 27, 2012, at Valley View Alzheimer's Care Center, Frankfort, Ohio.

Jack was predeceased by his soul-mate and wife of 52 years; Patricia Best Eley; father, Sherla Eldon Eley; mother, Pansy Fincham Fisher; and brothers, Gene and Keith Eley.

He is survived by three children, twin daughters Sharon Eley (Charlie) Perry of Chillicothe, Shirley Eley (Earl) Nachtrieb, of St. Charles, Missouri, and son, James Robert (Daria McKenna) Eley of Columbus. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Jack, known as J.B., grew up in Ohio and enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing and participating in Boy Scouts. He graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1946, where he excelled in Red Devil basketball, track and band.
After high school he joined the U.S. Navy, serving a well-timed stint, (1946 -1948), between wars.
There, he was assigned to the maiden cruise of the U.S.S. Toledo on its global goodwill tour following WWII.

Following his tour with the Navy, Mr. Eley began a civil service career at the V.A. Hospital in Chillicothe. Soon thereafter he joined the Department of Justice until his retirement at age 50.

Following his retirement, he and his wife Pat, returned to Chillicothe from Washington, D.C. and he spent his "spare" time building additions onto the family place on Plyleys Lane, volunteering with the Ohio Historical Society, treasure hunting with his metal detector, fishing, hunting arrow points, and investigating family genealogy for himself and others.

Jack was always true to himself and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather to his family. He was honest, fair, reliable, consistent and a good provider. He left a legacy behind to those who loved him—a rare and enduring familial bond.

A time of sharing will be held 7:00 pm Friday at Haller Funeral Home. Please bring any amusing pictures and/or anecdotes about Jack that you wish to share with the family.

Private military graveside services, conducted by the Ross County, Ohio Veterans Honor Guard, will be held Saturday in Twin Township Cemetery, where he will spend eternity next to his wife, Pat.
Friends may call 5-7 pm Friday at Haller's.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Heartland Hospice, 205 N. Street, Lucasville, OH 45648 or the Eley Memorial Fund c/o Sharon Eley.

His online memorial register is available at www.HallerFuneralHome

I am trying to find information on my grandfather Leonard Eley, born 1919, married Lois E Cordon April 1938, on her death certificate i think he's listed as a gunner with some numbers after it then in brackets it say something about metal machinist. She was living in Beeston, Nottingham at the time.
His father was Albert Eley, but he had died by 1938. Albert Eley also had a brother Leslie Eley born about 22nd nov 1905/1906

If anybody can help, even if its only to tell me what the numbers might mean, I would appreciate it.

I'm delighted to record that I recently tracked down the married sister of Fred Eley, who was in fact one of two men killed in my father's tank in Normandy. She was his only sibling, and she very kindly sent me a photo of Fred in his uniform, and of his grave, still marked with a wooden cross, before the CWGC had re-started manufacturing headstones.

A few months ago I finally tracked down the sister of the young man I have been interested in, who was killed in my father's tank in Normandy in 1944. I had wanted to inform any relatives of the circumstances of his death. There had been just the two of them, brother and sister, but there had been a good few years between them, and she and I were able to exchange information about her brother. I'm afraid it means that it effectively closes my interest in tracing Eleys.

I'm trying to find info on Peter Eley/Ely/Eli. I have found all these spellings? Some sources have him born 1769 in Somerset, Pa. Somerset was not yet a county in Pa. in 1769 though.? He did live in what is now Lebanon county, in Jackson Twp. in 1789. His son Jacob was baptised there. He is supposed to have married Catherine Lutz in Lancaster county in 1787. Any leads appreciated. Thanks.

We believe that he may have moved on to the USA
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Kate Martindale

My Grandfather: Jacob Eley (1839-1920)
My Grandmother: Hannah Baker Eley (1863-1945)

Hannah Baker was Jacob's second wife, Hannah White Eley having died at the birth of twins Ella and Elmer in 1877. They had 5 children.

Hannah Baker and Jacob had 15 children, 9 of whom reached adulthood. My father, Guy Eley (1892-1988) was one of them.

Hannah Baker Eley and Jacob are buried in MRE Cemetery at Berne, Indiana. No one seems to be able to find a burial place for Hannah White Eley, who was part Native American.

Henry and Sarah Wolford are my great grandparents. Sarah died in childbirth when Harley (my grandfather) was born in 1881 in Elk Falls, KS. He married her sister, Elizabeth. She died in 1900 (I have her memorial card). I would like very much to be in contact with you. Cynthia

I am looking for relatives for my mum Avril Ann Eley.

She was born on 31st March 1944 in West Ham, London.
Her dad was called Fred, but doesn't have her mum's given name, but knows her maiden name was Jeremiah.

She was told that her mum was killed by a doodle bug, not long after she was born and was put into a childrens home. As the war was still in progress she was evacuated out to a village in the Surrey countryside, where she has stayed. She continued to see her dad from time to time until her early 20's.

Her father was an electrician on London Transport and he later remarried. His new wife's name was Maude and she had 2 sons from a previous marriage (Johnny & George). His last know address was in Forest Gate around the late 1970's.

If anybody can help me locate some family members and help Avril to fill in the blanks, please get in touch.

Thanks

I just started my search for Eleys. My grandmother is an Eley from Luzerne CTY. Virginia Carr Eley Romane was the daughter of Elizabeth Weaver and Rudolph C Eley. Rudolph is originally from NC, MS or VA. I know the family was originally from VA, dec. of Josiah John Eley and Elizabeth Carr. From there, I think its onto William W and Frances but am not sure.
