Hello. You can see his tombstone on find a grave.com but it's not very readable. You can also go to http://www.pulaskispast.com/Cemeteries/ under the VanHook or Higgins Cemetery and see a little better picture of it.

Do you have very much info on Samuel's family? I have some info but not very much. Would you be willing to share? You can email me at windspiritlady@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

Thank you. Would you believe that just a couple of days ago I found a site that had a picture of Samuel P. Marcum's tombstone, and his wife is listed also on the tombstone. This is the only son of Jesse and Sarah that I have been able to get anything about (well, except for my great-grandfather Bishop Asbury Marcum).

Marcum, as well as a son of Samuel, Columbus Marcum.

Samuel was married to Artemacy Bishop.

If you can't find a link to the site, let me know.

Betty

Sarah Eli and Jesse Marcum from Lee Co., VA to Pulaski Co., KY

I am trying to find any info on Jesse (Jessie) Marcum (Marcrum, Markham) born 1799 and died 1882/3. He married Sarah Eli (Ely) in 1817. She died in 1896. They were from Lee Co., VA and ran a hotel/tavern somewhere there. They moved to Pulaski Co., KY sometime before 1856. They had 11 kids: Harvey Eli, Samuel Patton, Margaret Ellen, George, David Albert, James, Harriet Ann, Ruth, Bishop Asbury, Caleb Litten, Barbara Alice.

I am related thru Bishop Asbury Marcum.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. All the family records were destroyed in a fire in 1938 and we've been trying to piece it all back together since then. Thanks.

Eli family in Gloucestershire, England

This is a long shot but just wondering if any one has researched the Eli (or Daniels)family in Gloucestershire back as far as 1600.

I ask because I live in an old Cotswold stone cottage in Westrip, near Stroud in Gloucestershire. The house is believed to have been built sometime between 1600-1650. The roof has an elm timber frame and on one A-frame the names ELI + DANIELS has been elegantly carved. Almost as if they were leaving their mark.

Just wondered if anyone had unearthed a Daniels or Eli - carpenter/builder – from around that period living in Gloucestershire. Thanks

Minnie Eli b about 1888 KY md Sam J Simpson

Looking for parents and more info on children of Minnie Eli. Census records show she had at least six children (Vadie, Samuel K [possible "keith"], Lennon, Mary H., James L, and Laverne) with Sam J. Simpson but I can only find birth records for 3 of them. (James, Mary and Keith). I am trying to determine if Keith and Samuel K are the same person. Keith was born in June of 1911 and Sam was thought to be born around 1912. That leaves time for them to be different guys.
Minnie's parents were both born in KY according to census records. Thanks. I also have lots of info on Marietta Short and George. Any info you have on the Coder side would be helpful, especially if you can tell me who Fannie's mother's parents were. I know that John Henry Coder married Fannie Horn, but I'd like to know the names of Fannie Horn's parents. It's nice to connect with someone that is this closely related, tho. I know that some of Clyde's children live in Goodland, Kansas still. Where do you hail from? I live in Arkansas. If I have anything that you think would help you, let me know what you need and I'll email what I have if it can fill in any blanks. Thanks, sue

Eli family in Indiana

The first Eli that I have from Indiana was my 6x Great Grandpa - Simon Eli, he died in 1827 in Union, IN. Most of his children were born in Virginia and died in Indiana. I don't have a James Eli, but he could be one of my aunt or uncles children somewhere down the line. I have a disk of Eli's that I haven't been able to look at yet, he might be on there. I know a lot of my Eli ancestors came from PA, VA, and IN, but most ended up in Appanoose County, Iowa.
I'd be happy to share what I have, it isn't much. Do you know James' parents names or any siblings?
Tanya

More on Michael. He married Elizabeth Beshears, daughter of Thomas Beshears in Christian County KY.
He is listed on 1850 census as being 51 and born in Tennessee. Taliafero and Thomas Eli with their families are in residences adjacent and are listed as born in Tennessee. They, as well as Michael's wife, Elizabeth, are in their twenties in 1850. Elizabeth and Michael had several children, among them Mary, Rebecca, Andrew J, Elisha, and Larkin Gustave. Elizabeth Beshears Eli had a sisters Mary June Jemima Beshears, Sarah Eli Beshears, and a brother, Thomas, named after her father. Michael is reported as having had 3 wives.
Well, I'm finally getting back to you. I was filing the material my mother sent on the Eli family. The cover letter was signed my your grandmother. My mother obtained the information from Juanita Hamby. The records appear to be very thorough up to Michael Eli but there are still many unanswered questions about him. I'd love for you to find some stories about him. My mom wants to know what happened to his land. Are you in the area of Skyflat Cemetery? That's where he's buried. I'd like a picture of the tombstone. Which wife is he buried with? Do you think we could construct the family tree from where your grandmother stopped? I wonder if she added documentaion beyond what she had given to Juanita? Send me your e-mail address to judimeador@netscape.net.

I just discovered yesterday that the ELY family I have been researching branched off due to some sort of conflict and started spelling their name ELI. I am looking for information on my grandfather's side. His Father and Mother was John and Emma Ely of Turon, KS. His father was David and I have traced them back to VA and England/Ireland. Another distant cousin did all of that research, however. I can't take credit as I've only just begun. If you think we may be linked, please respond. Thanks and good luck.

Catherine Eli Miller

One of my 3x great grandmas was Catherine Eli who was born about 1750, possibly in Lancaster Co., PA. She married there a German Lutheran minister who had come to preach to the "unsaved" peoples of Pennsylvania and save their souls. He was born in Germany. Catherine and Henry married on 31 Oct 1770 in Lancaster County and eventually became the parents of eight children. From PA Henry and Catherine moved to Lee and Carter Counties, VA, where Grandchildren were born to them via their son Daniel (my 2x great grandpa.) Then the families moved to southern Indiana, where they lived in Rush, Union, and Wayne Counties. (County boundary changes probably account for the three county names, because the residences did not change locations as far as I can tell.) Catherine died 10 Sep 1841 in what was then Rush County, IN. I would love to have more information on this antecedant, any who came before her, siblings, etc. I have some information on her descendants.
