If you 'Google' Moses Elkin, you may find that he was appointed the first Rabbi in Auckland, New Zealand in around 1860. He served some years here before returning to England and was reported in the Press here as having died in 1882.
The Elkins I am related to reputedly fled from the Balkans to County Tyrone in Ireland, to escape the Russians as they were Jewish.
