Ellef Nelson Ellefson. Ellef (as was the custom) dropped the Nelson name and added "son" to his first name and became known as Ellef Ellefson when he came to America. He and Bertha had 11 children and only 8 of them came to American with them. Two of their children Nels and Chesta came to America BEFORE their parnets and Peter stayed behind. The 8 that came with them were Ellef (junior, I guess) Tom, Martha, Ole, Sarah, Anna, George and Carrie. The only matches I see are Ellef and Carrie. Carrie Ellefson Maybaum was the 6th child of Ellef and Bertha, came to Iowa with her mother andf worked as a cook for several familes in Iowa Falls. She married Phillip Maybaum and they settled on a farm south of Burdette, Iowa. Two children were born to this union. Carrie and Phillip sold their farm at Burdette and retired to an acreage newar Iowa Falls in 1919. Ellef Ellefson (Jr) The youngest Ellefson child, Ellef, was only 7 when the family came to America. He went to Iowa to settle with his parents, sisters and brother. He was a farm hand. Ellef married Isabel Sevick and they bought a farm newar Popejoy. They had 5 children Otto, George, Luella,Mabel, Bessie, Alma and Floyd.
