Ellenburg Family of South Caroline, TN and Arkansas

I am doing a family tree for a gift. I am tracking a line of Ellenburgs/Elenburgs. The man I am having trouble with is a WILLIS E Ellenburg born in abt 1815 in South Carolina. This is what I have found so far.....

1850 United States Federal Census
about Willis Ellenburg
Name: Willis Ellenburg
Age: 35
Birth Year: abt 1815
Birthplace: South Carolina
Home in 1850: District 11, Cocke, Tennessee
Gender: Male
Family Number: 856
Household Members: Name Age
Willis Ellenburg 35
Martha Ellenburg 25
Elmira Ellenburg 9
Mary Ellenburg 6
Jasper Ellenburg 5
Tilman Ellenburg 3
John Ellenburg 1

1860 United States Federal Census
about Willis Ellenburg
Name: Willis Ellenburg
Age in 1860: 45
Birth Year: abt 1815
Birthplace: South Carolina
Home in 1860: District 8, Cocke, Tennessee
Gender: Male
Post Office: Cato
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members: Name Age
Willis Ellenburg 45
Martha Ellenburg 29
Elvina A Ellenburg 19
Elizabeth Ellenburg 16
John Ellenburg 11
Philip Ellenburg 4
Sarah Ellenburg 1
Catharine Ellenburg 30
Pavintha Ellenburg 8

1870 United States Federal Census
about Martha Ellenburg
Name: Martha Ellenburg
Age in 1870: 45
Birth Year: abt 1825
Birthplace: South Carolina
Home in 1870: District 1, Cocke, Tennessee
Race: White
Gender: Female
Post Office: Big Creek Depot
Value of real estate: View image
Household Members: Name Age
Martha Ellenburg 45
Phillip Ellenburg 14
Sarah Ellenburg 11
Ansel Ellenburg 9 **************************
Lucinda Ellenburg 1
Jack Ellenburg 80 ***** Father in law? Willis is deceased.

According to trees online Willis died Greene, TN about 1864. His son Ancel ( Ancil, Nathan Ancel) is the line I am working on. My question is does anyone know who Willis' Father was...aka Jack or Jacob Ellenburg. ? This gets very confusing...LOL

Thank you! Sandy
Ellenburgs in Lee/Union Counties MS, Cullman Co., AL

Hello!

It appears my GGGrandmother Tressie Adeline Smothers first married an Ellenburg in Cullman/Winston/Blount County in AL, about 1881-1885. They had at least one son - Frank, b. 10 May 1883/86, who ended up living in Mississippi. They may have had 2 other children as well. I see him living in 1900FC with his Aunt/Uncle's family - Pierce.

Then I see him in 1920FC in MS with his family, wife Maud, son Lawrence b 1914, daughter Sybil, b 1919. Then the kids are with his wife's brother's family in 1930FC - last name something like "McCornes" - but it is impossible to really make out (and her father "Edd").

I found possible SSDI records for Lawrence and "Joe Franklin" (Frank?) where Lawrence died July 1987 Southaven, Desoto, MS and Frank in Aug 1976, Tupelo, Lee, MS.

Ancestry transcriptions for these records have some pretty terrible mistakes, so it is tough hunting.

Is anyone researching these Ellenburgs? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Derric
Locations which you give could connect to group that I am searching for. The Ellenburgs are one of my "lost" lines.
My group started with 14 siblings and their descendants, of which, one line is the Ellenburgs. The original group were Watkins, with one dau., Rachel Malinda W., who married George Ellenburg. I have not worked on this line lately, if I remember correctly, his father was Tilman. They were in the SC (Pendleton District); NC (Transavanial, Macon, Jackson County, areas) and in Rabun Co. GA. Have not made contact with anyone who might be working on this group. Have met some descendants, however they don't seem interested in genealogy. I'll keep trying!!!! regards Dot (gagranny662003@yahoo.com)

Yes, this is the right line you are talking about. I think Willis's father is William B. Ellenburg from Pendleton SC but don't know if Tillman is a brother or cousin of Willis. I know Willis named one of his son's Tillman.
Thanks,
Hi Michon, I don't know much at all about the ellenburg family; I am the great granddaughter of Daniel J. Coffman and his first wife. However, Bessie's sister, Lona, was my grandfather Noble S. Coffman's, second wife and I did know her. I am assuming from your info that you are also a descendant of Daniel. I thought from census records that perhaps Daniel and Bessie had children but did not know for sure. Anyway, I had always wondered where the ellenburgs originated and who Lona's and Bessie's parents were. Also, I have been told that Daniel's middle name was Jesse, after his father, Jesse J., but I could be mistaken. Do you know for sure that it was Jones? I can be reached at bkeysacker@yahoo.com. Thanks
