I saw your post earlier this year to Sandy Tracy. I am making a huge assumption here but I think you might be a decendant of Lenora C. James (b 1844) wife of William Coker and Hiram Mitchell, at least I believe that is the connection with Sandy. I too am looking for information on this family as my wife is a great great granddaughter of Lenora as well. I would be very interested in sharing information with you if my assumption is correct. Thank you.
Mitch Gariador, Chino, California

All of yall have been great to answer and I thank you very much -- that 1703 date really threw me and yes between all of you it must be a mistake. On Google books can only see part of the snippet so looked like might be North Carolina Thrashers in 1703 the Thrashers I seek are Virginia, North Carolina. Thanks again to everyone, Cherielynn

You probably know this, but much has been learned since James William Hook died. Benjamin Thrasher was not the father of Margaret Hook. Benjamin's daughter Margaret was born ca 1740 - after James Hook died.

If this is important to anyone, please contact me separately.

jmoule@earthlink.net

The book you referance is “George Michael Eller and Descendants of His in America Book (1957, reprinted 1995), Written by: James W. Hook. It is available from the Eller Family Association for $40.00.

If I remember correctly from reading the Eller Chronicles (Eller Family Association) a long time ago, wasn't there a second book printed that corrected some of the information found in the first? Sorry it has been too long ago and I don’t remember the title. I’m wondering if the second book has any info on the folks you are looking for? It might be interesting to see if there is. Anyone have a copy of the second book? If so, check for cherielynn251 and let her know.
On P. 293: The inventory of the estate of Benjamin Thrasher, the father, doubtless, of Margaret Hook, was signed, 18 May 1741, by James and Mary Lee as "near relatives" and by John Jackson and Ninian Beale. John Beale signed as creditor. Shortly thereafter, on 22 March 1742, Mary Thrasher of Prince George County, MD, widow, recorded a gift amounting to seven pounds current money made on 21 March 1703 (sic) to each of her seven children as follows.....

As I understand it, the "sic" notation indicates that the date 1703 is possibly incorrect. I have the Eller Book and would gladly look for any other information you'd like.

Regards,
Trish

I am not an Eller researcher but I am a Thrasher researcher. On 21 March 1742 (OS), Mary Thrasher made a deed of gift to her 7 children. Each was given 7 pounds except Benjamin who was given 10 pounds.

The date of 1703 must be wrong. There were no Thrasher children living in Maryland in 1703. The youngest was born in 1725. I have James William Hook's book on Captain James Hook, but not the George Eller book.

I would be glad to furnish more information.

I see through google books a reference to a Thrasher family mentioned in Hook's work about the Eller family. There are only snippents that come up. But the Thrashers mentioned are the right names and places for our Thrashers and I hope someone can help.

Is there an Eller researcher that is familier with this Thrasher family and what the book has about them. I am particularly curious about a reference on page 293 which mentions a 1703 note where money was given to 7 Thrasher children but the online piece does not say who the giver is. Thanks, Cherie Lynn

Saw your 2005 response to another individual and note that you are in Ashe County. My grandfather, Robert Lee Jones, was born in Helton TWP, Ashe County, NC, in 1868. His Social Security application listed his parents as W. R. Jones and Sallie Eller. I've never been able to locate any record of a marriage between this two, and it's possible my grandfather was born out of wedlock. Do you happen to have any information about this Sallie, her parentage, etc??

Thanks.

Lee Jones

Re: Helen Eller, b1897/8, Oklahoma

William Eller is a frustratingly common name! As an Eller researcher myself, I checked out "mine," but had no matching wife!
Because I saw that Nicholas Eller was reportedly born in Indiana while the family was "on the move" I thought William and Mary might have taken refuge from the war with cousins in Indiana (others did). I couldn't find a
thing among my Indiana Ellers.
I incidentally found another researcher on Ancestry who shows Helen < Nicholas< William. Her username is Rubywhitaker70.
In her Bay/Whitaker file, she has Nicholas married to Mary or Elizabeth? Wornick in Alva, Woods Co, OK, on 6 Mar 1897. She shows Helen Ellen Eller Gauze as a resident of CA on her death on 22 Dec 1974 in El Centro, CA.
William Eller is particularly difficult because he was such a pioneering spirit! Only in 1880 was he comfortably situated in an established state with a census (Missouri), and if he spent 1850,60, and 70 in settled places, the census-taker didn't spell his name correctly!
Good luck in your searches!

Mary Lou/Lucretia Eller Wilkes Co., NC

My great grandmother was Mary Lou Eller, b. ca. 1872 in Wilkes Co. She married Richard Pinkney Foster, also of Wilkes Co., ca. 1893. My grandmother, Florence Viola Foster, was born to them in 1895. Mary Lou died when Florence was 6. I'm trying to find the Eller line from which she comes. An 1880 census shows 8 yr.old Mary Lou living with her grandmother, Lucretia Eller. Also in the household are daughter Martha,ca.30, and son Wm., ca.27. Martha's age is consistent with earlier records. Wm's is not. I can find them in earlier census records, but I'm unable to determine who Mary Lou's parents might be.
I'd love to solve the mystery.

Hailey,

It doesn't matter who old you are but how important family's are. Could you tell me what your father's name is and your grandfather or grandmother Eller? That would help with your hunt. Or any Uncles or Aunts names. Full names are real important in finding your kin. Birth and death dates if you can find them would also help. Good luck

ljak69

I recently participated in Sorenson's free DNA database. They send you a free DNA kit which you return with a copy of your pedigree. You remain anonymous in the database, only your grandparents and beyond show. You have to be a male with the Eller surname to participate. If you are a female descendant, you will need to ask a brother, uncle, etc. If you are interested, please go to http://www.smgf.org/and click on Participation Kit.
Re: EARLY GERMAN ELLERS

Thanks to a cousin of mine the late Connie Greene of Elk Park, NC we have put together a very researched and fairly complete Eller lineage that is confirmed going back to Peter Eller from Wilkes County, NC (Wilkes and Ashe Counties were once part of Rowan County, NC). We know that his father was George Michale Eller of either the Algau Eller line or the Eller line from Untermerzbach or the Palantinate areas of Germany. The age at the time of immigration and births of children favor the later. However, I have run into a quandrey about George Michale Eller's father. It is either Paul Caspar Eller from the Palantinate or Georg Eller from Untermerzbach, Germany. There is some evidence that they are possibly the same person. Do you have any more information that may help to determine that? I would also be very appreciative of any homestead or grave site areas known. I am good on them up to Peter Eller. I have a good lead on his grave site in Wilkes County but I haven't been able to go there to confirm yet. Starting with my Great Grandfather Benjamin Franklin Eller are all buried in our family cemetery located at Gwyn Lane and Sam Eller Straight, HWY 194 between Banner Elk and Heaton, NC.

I also have some Civil War Pay Records showing Cleavland Eller being severally wounded in 1863 in Virgina while serving with the NC State Infantry. Records show he was released from active duty several months later due to his wounds and granted permission to return to Wilkes County. This is most likely my Great Great Grand Father Henry Cleveland Eller. I have been told that Cleavland is in quotes on his grave marker.

In listing on our family tree from Connie, George Michael Eller is referred to as General. I have found no records of his serving in any military so I'm afraid that if true his service may have been on the wrong side.

Here is what mostly Connie with a little help from me have been able to put together. My confirmed direct line goes Peter Linn (B.?) Eller of Wilkes County, NC; Peter Eller Jr (?) of Wilkes County; Jacob Eller of Wilkes County; Henry Cleavland Eller Sr. of Wilkes County; Benjamin Franklin Eller of Elk Valley, NC; Jake Hoose Eller of Elk Park, NC; Charles Foster ("Buster") Eller of Elk Park, NC and me Danny Richard Eller, Retired Military now working in Florida.

See Attached File

If you cannot see the attached file please email me at danny eller@netzero.net

Capt. Calvin Eller accepts nomination to serve in the House of Commons

[Found on Ancestry.com newspaper search]

From: Weekly Standard, a newspaper in Raleigh, NC

ASHE AND ALLEGHANY. -- CAMP 58TH
Regiment, N. C. Vols., near Marietta, Ga, June 17, 1864.
Fellow Citizens and Soldiers of the Counties of Ashe and
Alleghany: - Having been unanimously nominated as a
candidate, by my company, to represent the people of the
aforesaid Counties in the next Legislature of North
Carolina in the House of Commons, I take this method of
making known to the people the fact that I accept the nomination.
I have also received many letters from my friends in the
various portions of the two Counties, soliciting me to
become a candidate. I would be pleased to attend the
different precincts of the Counties before the election,
but as the enemy are now confronting us in "line of
battle," I fear I shall not be able to meet you. I only
ask you, fellow-citizens, while the candidates at home
are addressing you and soliciting you for your votes, to
remember that I am in the field with your sons and
brothers, defending your homes, your fire-sides, and your
all. And to you, my brother comrades in arms, who have
manifested your confidence so strongly in me, permit me
to return to you my most grateful acknowledgements. If
elected, I shall do everything in my power to bring about
a speedy and honorable peace, and promote the general
interest; if defeated, I shall willingly remain where I
have so long been, in defence [sic] of my country, praying
for the happy day when our independence may be acknowledged,
and all of us may be permitted to return to our homes to
enjoy the reward of our sufferings.
I am, fellow-citizens and brother comrades in arms, your
humble servant,
CALVIN ELLER
Capt. Comd'g Co. L, 58th Regt., N. C. Vols.
June 27, 1864.
H.L, Althea and Johnnie Eller

I was curious, I havent seen my grandfather and his siblings names anywhere, except a story on Johnnie and his hand crafted canes. I am fortunate enough to own 2 of his walking canes. All 3 have passed as of jan 2008. My Grandpa who was the eldes lived the longest. He and Johnnie died just at one year apart. They are both burried in Clayton. Thier parents were John Gordon Eller and Lear Addis Eller. Grandma Eller (Lear) lived to be 99. Also, Johnnie received a purple heart while being on a ship in Pearl Harbor.
This is a very interesting but very secluded family. They lived on Persimmon Mountain Clayton, GA. where many are burried. Grandma Eller was a good bit younger than John Gordon and he died in or around the 1930's.
As far as Grandpa says, his father had a heart attack, Johnnie died of the same abd Grandpa of several afflictions due to age. There is a history of heart conditions with in the family.
If ANYONE has info, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have found alot of information on my great-great grandfather Andrew Eller on Ancestory.com. I cannot find out any info from when he was in Prussia before he came to the states. He was born in 1833 and married Pauline Maleskezski in 1860. From what info I am getting he is tied to the Strohm family tree and a Engle family tree. Looking for info on where he came from, parents names ect. Any info just to get me started would be great.
