William M. Ellard who married Margaret Lovelady in S.C. and moved to the Jefferson Co., Alabama, is not the same person as Willam Ellard who married as a second wife in Murray Co., Georgia Eleanor Kelton. William also was born in S. C. and moved to Georgia about the same time the other William moved to Alabama. William's first wife is unknown but they were probably married in S. C. and how many children they had is unknown. A young William Ellard in Georgia on the 1850 census may be his son--he is married and in not listed with William and Eleanor. There is also a Hannah Ellard listed on the census with William and Eleanor who was born several years before they married, and presumably is William's daughter, but I have no proof that she was and have no other information about her.
I am the grandaughter of Nancy Margaret Ellerd (maiden name) born 1886 in Clarksville, GA.. Her parents were Newberry Jackson Ellerd born abt 1854 in Hall Co. GA. and married Jalia Adeline Weaver in 1874. My grandmother (Nancy Margaret) was one of 12 children.

Samuel Ellerd was a prisoner . He immigrated from England as a prisoner in 1741. He had two son, Amos Sr born in Va abt July 1, 1786 and James Ellerd

Amos Ellerd was arrested in Washington county, VA (now Russell County) for horse theft.

I have heard rumors that the Ellerds had Choctaw blood and I am now researching to try and find out if this is true. If you have any information about that, please let me know.

June Valente

James Monroe Ellard was 5'7" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair. He served in the military between 1861-1865, Confederate States Army, Co. C., 11th Regiment. His occupation is listed as a School Teacher. He was first buried in (thought to be ) Leatherwood Baptist Cemetery in Banks County and was later buried in the Confederate Cemetery in LaGrange GA. His left arm was amputated above the elbow (probably due to the war).
My facts show that he was born Jan. 14, 1843 in Springhill Place, Murray Co., GA and died June 9, 1913 in Baldwin Banks Co., GA. He married Amanda Melvina Bell November 6,1880 in Randolph Co. GA. She died Nov 1, 1918 in TX.
He then married Susan Clay Bell nov 7, (?) in Randolph Co., Ga

Children of James Ellard and Amanda Bell are
1. Alice Ellard, born June 18, 1864 in GA
2. Susan Ellender Nellie Ellard, born Feb 7, 1884 and died Aug. 18, 1905 Susan married Woodie Mack in 1902.

I am trying to research the Choctaw blood in the Ellerd lineage. Can anyone help?

June Valente
i appreciate your reply. as to my relationship, james monroe had at least two sons i've been aware of=james thomoas ellerd and william jeptha.
william jeptha had two sons-john and carl lee ellerd and a daughter rubye ellener. i am the last son of carl lee. he also had a son carl lee jr and jewell and joyce in reverse order as listed(joyce being oldest).
my brothers and sisters are all alive and well. if at all possible, when you can i would like a copy of that license.
my brother and sisters were from a different mother than me. and i had five stepbrothers from my mothers second marriage. one (joseph) died in 97 due to birth defects in his heart.
i have more info on william(he had four wives altogether) and others as well. as soon as i have it organized i am going to burn a cd of it if you would like a copy let me know. i am having problems with some of the info. i think some of the people i have listed as children of one ellerd are actually his siblings not sure. thats why i need as much of the older info as you have verified.
as it stands now, the original ancester who came ashore in virginia was samuel ellard(note the spelling). his descendants are all over the south and some were in indiana and michigan. his son is the problem cant connect him with his father otr his other contemporaries. like i say they mat be children or siblings. but iam sure they were all born in virginia.
thanks again for response.
my email is cdellerd@email.com. the cd stands for charles davis.
bye cousin for now
cd
ps name was changed by james monroe and his cousib james and uncle jonathan to ellerd from ellard. why exactly i dont know. but there are several reasons given in various gedcom files. it occurred around the time of the civil war so that may been part of reason although james monroe served honerably losing his left arm above the elbow at the second battle of mannassas
