David Ellett is my Great Great Great Grandfather, his son Steven R. Elliott ( changed last name ) was my Grandma Lora Marie Stewart's grandfather. Read information on Elletsville, In. and it's founder Edward Ellett. I want any info at all on the Ellett family. My grandmother describes her grandfather, Steven as Native American but obviously only part unless my grandmother was mistaken about her grandfather, she was getting sick when she was writing in her journal. She did speak about Native Americans in our family when I was a little girl though. His daughter, my Great Grandmother Grettie Ellen Elliott married James Lloyd Stewart and they had eight children and all were born in Gosport, Rt.1 according to my in grandma's journal. My grandmother mentions Baker, Elletsville, and Gosport in her journal. My grandma, Lora Marie Stewart married my grandfather Robert Grant Williams of Edgefield, S.C. They had 5 children, my daddy, William Grant Williams, was the oldest. We are also related to founders of Baker Township ( that's how my grandmother referred to it in her journal ).

1860 letter

Letter was written 20 July 1860. Before moving to La he lived in Butler Co Al and attended the Sweetwater Primitive Baptist Church. In the letter he states he bought property on Ferry Lake about 30 miles from Shreveport and that boats could land within 60 yards of his house. His family was in tolerable good health but his children had left him...so he was old enough in 1860 to have grown children. He said give his love the the members of Sweetwater and tell them to write him and direct the letters to Mooringsport, which was about three miles from his house. He also said he had not joined a church because the closest Primitive Church was 11 or 16 (can't read writing) miles from his house. The last page of the letter is missing so there is no signature. The letter was written to James Lowery of Butler Co. Al.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks, Alice
aflowery1935@gmail.com

ELLETT family - Jersey and South Africa

I'm looking for more information on the branch of the ELLETT family that existed in Natal in South Africa - I believe based round the town of Vryheid.

The key individual is one Burford Webb ELLETT, born in St Helier, Jersey in December 1896. He emigrated to South Africa in 1928 - I believe that he did so on the back of an inheritance from his father, James W ELLETT, who had recently died.

The real reason I'm interested is that about 15 months later, a lady called Lucille PERREDES followed him out to South Africa. They married there, had at least two daughters (who would be in their mid 70s, so quite possibly still alive). It's the PERREDES family that I'm researching, but I'd appreciate knowing what happened to the line from Lucille and Burford.

James

William M. Ellett b. 1866 in Alabama

I'm looking for the parents' names for William M. Ellett b. 1866 in Alabama d. 1954 in California. He married Claude Smith in 1893 in Franklin, Alabama. According to oral family history William's father was from Georgia or Alabama, owned a small number of slaves, fought for the south in the civil war and had a sister named Margie (I'm not sure on spelling). It is possible the family name may have at some point been spelled Ellette or Ellitt. I did find a William Ellitt in Alabama born 1845, wife Viola who had a son named William born c. 1867...Any help would be much appreciated!

Edward Ellett, Sr. and his wife Eleanor had seven sons and three daughters. David Ellett was their fourth son and David Ellett married Maria Higgins. One of David's and Maria's sons was Willis A. Gorman Ellett born in 1847 in Bean Blossom Township. Willis A. Gorman is my GG Grandfather.
David Ellett was born in Kentucky. I do not have the exact date of David's birth, but Maria's is listed as 1804 in my records. This comes from a book entitled Leaves of the Ellett/Elliott Family Tree. I have a copy.

Hi Maty, if you can find out your Grandparents real names it would help. I'm tracing the Ellett family that settled in Victoria, although one arm did go to Western Australia. John Thomas Ellett and Margaret Jane Webster Farmed firstly in the Mulgrave area then went to Pakenham Kooweerup, where most of their family stayed (some moved around of course), John and Margaret themselves retired to Kinglake, though they went home to Pakenham to be buried (I have a photo of their headstone). There are still Elletts on the same farm. I know a branch moved to Geelong too. But if you could tell me your Grandparents names that would help a LOT. Cheers, Jo.

Hi Nicole, so you belong to the line that went to the west. I was just looking at them, trying to figure out where they were buried. As far as I know that line is Alfred Ellett born 1897 Oakleigh Victoria to John Thomas Ellett and Margaret Jane Webster (I have a photo of their grave if you're interested). Alfred married a Grace Rose Forscutt born 1 Jan 1899 Collingwood Victoria died 20 Aug 1969 Western Australia somewhere. They married on 4 Apr 1922 in Prahran. I'm going down a different line but I'd be interested to see what you have. Kind Regards, Jo.

Re: John Henry Ellett born August 3, 1866 Mississippi; died January 11, 1922 Athens, Texas

Hello
John Henry Ellett was born August 3, 1866 according to his tombstone but census records show 68 and 69 and show him born in Alabama and died Jan 11, 1922 in Henderson,Athens Co., Texas. They are buried at the Black Jack Cemetery along with your grandmother. I have Sophia Luella on the same birth date as you (probably from the stone) but in Texas. If the census I found is really her, it shows her living in Freestone, Texas in 1880 identified as S.L. born about 1877 with parents of I.W. and mother J.A. Other siblings are identified by initials. On this same census page are other Lee's. 1936 is the date on the tombstone for your grandmother engraved as Madge Huckabee. My grandmother was your grandmother's sister. My grandmother was Relia Hope Ellett Goff. I notice that in 1920 on the census she has her father being born in Alabama and her mother in Texas. Was Aldon your father? You probably have this information by now. If you have found anything else on Sophie Luella Lee, please let me know.
Thanks
Norma

Hi again and thank you so much for the reply and the information! I have been looking for it for almost a year now and had felt like I had run into a wall. I did hear somewhere that William Ellett went with Joseph F. and Richard to Kentucky and then Alabama and that it all had to do with some kind of land opportunity there. I received some information from Jamie Ellett (another cousin)about the the family of Rebecca Baker Ellett in Kentucky but that was as far back as I could go. I will get all of my Robert Issac Ellett info into a file and send it to you shortly. Thanks again, Jimmy

Re: David Ellett born ca 1796 in Kentucky - Monroe County, Indiana in 1850

Bill, I was ver interested in your David Ellett. I have been trying to find information on Elijah Ellett/Elliott or how ever you want to spell it. He also lived in Monroe Co, Indiana. At one time he exchanged a piece of land with a David Elliott. I would think these people may be related but proving it seems impossible. My Elijah was married to Elizabeth McVey in Rockingham Co., Virginis in 1804. That is on all kind of list. They were released from a church in the area in 1805. I know they went to Monroe co. Indiana by 1820. I don't know if they stopped by Kentucky for a few years on they way. I believe one of his children, Ruth, married Robert Harvey in Indiana. She was Roberts second wife. Their first child was Elijah Elliott Harvey, my 2Gr. Grandfather. This family moved back and forth between Monroe and Lawrence counties. Others beside David and Elijah on the 1830 census are 2 Edwards, a Samual and a William. I do know that some of the Ellotts moved to Missouri. That probably was around 1840 or so. I can't prove any thing. Lets see if we can match these people up. Maybe your David and my Elijah were brothers. Hope to hea from you.
Carolyn Busch, Houston, TX

hi jo!! I realise this is a 2 year old question, but if your still looking for victorian elletts, look no further! :) my name is maty ellett, and i'm 24. i've just moved to tasmania, but i was born in melbourne, victoria and grew up in bendigo victoria, parents geoff and debbie, and 3 little sisters andrea, megan, and julia all still live there. also in bendigo is colin, my uncle, and his wife lyn, and daughters kylie and katie. my paternal grandfather jim died when i was little, but i remember his house in rochester, victoria. my grandmother jean still lives (tough as nails) now in bendigo aswell. (she has a realy impressive looking ellett family crest hanging on her lounge room wall that i'd really like to know the origins of, but don't sorry.) i have a feeling jim and jean are not the names they where given at birth. i think grandma's real name is nancy, and was called jean because there was allready a nancy ellett. jims mum i think, also died when i was little. i'm not too sure about grandpa's first name to be honest. though i know at some point he had some kind of farm. lol. my uncle neil ellett and his family live in sunbury, melbourne. dad has more siblings than i can name, and all have familys of their own sprinkled all around australia. my email is matellett@hotmail.com if you feel like a chat, or need some more info, i'd be happy enough to chase it down for ya. also, i'm a bit curious as to who you are... long lost cousin perhaps?? hope this message reaches you .. bye! ;)

I was so thrilled to get your message. Manan was my "Aunt Nan". She was my father's only sister. I adored her and spent a lot of time visiting in her home in Lexington. I remember climbing into her big bed and she'd read to me. She was a wonderful, loving sister to my dad, Littleton Sr. He died at age 63 of lung cancer. My brother Littleton Tazewell Ellett Jr. died 12/20/06 at age 83. He lived in Louisiana, had 3 children and 11 grandchildren. The name of Ellett will be carried on by his two sons. Chilton Sr. was my dad's brother and the one he was closest to. I didn't know Hortense, but I knew Golda, his 2nd wife, and their son Chilton Jr., who passed away a few years ago. I am Nancy Lee Ellett (was named after your mother). I am 77 years old now, just retired 3 years ago, live in California and lead a very active life. I have two grown children, 3 grandchildren. Please respond and tell me more about you and where you are located. I am so proud of my heritage.

Kathy , I come off of Elizabeth Turner's brother Reuben through his son William Henry. Ellett is not a direct line for me. I didn't have Benjamin Ellett's wife so thank you for that. Do you know anything about her Anderson family as that is another family I am researching? I guess we are still cousins as we both come of of George Turner. George was marr 3 times & had 15 children. At his time I don't have any names of his wives. I think one of them may have been a Darrell as one of his sons has that name & there were sone Darrell's in King William. Thanks for your reply. Keep in touch.
Ollie
